  5. Since i turned the boost up with the 25 turbo on my 20, its starting to detonate, even with a bit of timing backed off. Im going to the drags tonight and was wondering if its worth buying tolulene. Say for example, my fuel pump cant keep up and thats why its leaning out, would running tolulene stop any damage because the pinging stops? Im more than likley going to drop the boost back to 12 psi and turn the timing back to the correct place, but would like to run it like it is.
  6. Actually i dotn think the physical size has much do to with what boost it will run at. The rb25 turbo i put on opens at 9 where as the 20 turbo which had a smaller actuator opens at 12.. It just depends on the spring tension
  7. If it was the fuel pump, wouldnt the fuel pressure be dropping? I had it the guage reading just before it went into the reg.
  8. Just upgraded to a RB25 turbo, definatley the day's work. A few things tho. Its off a series 2 r33 which means it has a plastic compressor wheel. Is this better or worse than the older steel wheel? I also have a bit of a pinging problem even at 13psi. I have a good fmic so it shouldnt be a problem, and have a standard computer. I ran the car with a fuel pressure guage and the pressure doesnt drop at all when it pings. Could it be something like a dirty injector or what? I woul dhave thought if the fuel pump couldnt handle that much power, it would drop pressure? Any suggestions? Ive cleand the AFM, changed plugs with the correct gaps etc.

  11. Yes, i've used lambda was more than once .Its unreal to get a base setting, then from there fine tune it in .5% increments. Do you know the conversion rate on lambda readings like .90 to the ratio like other ecu's use? I find it hard to relate sometimes when people are talking 11.8:1 and im used to .88 or .90..
  12. I like the motec system better. You set your Injector Pulse with, and your fuel map is just a percentage of that IJPU.
  13. What about i get a stronger spring for mine, so that it doesnt work in vacuum. Are they rebuildable?
  14. Alot of people are scared of tuning their own cars, and i think this is because alot of tuners scare them. Its really not that hard, and they know that. Unless you really get it wrong, or drive it for an extended period of time with poor tuning, its really hard to damage your engine. Ive learned how to tune a motec ecu with minimal help and by trial and error on a very high n/a performance engine (Ok its a bike, but 14.3:1 compression on pump fuel, and 168hp@rear wheel from .9L). As long as its not so lean that it pings or splutters then the only thing that will happen is you will loose power. Richness is an easy one, it just runs like sh!t, no damage can be done there. So i say go buy a mixture guage, and refine it yourself, but only make small changes and keep an eye out for dreaded pinging PS - I know some people dont know what pining sounds like. Its just that rattling sound that old people make when they try to drive their laser in a car park in 3rd gear .
  15. Does anyone know of a speedo that goes past 180km/h for a 180sx? It looks pretty lame and was certain that they would be common but i've hardly seen any, in fact ive seen none. I visited unique auto sports. They have a white face dash kit but from what i can see only to 180km/h..
  16. Make sure your knock sensors are plugged in . After disconnecting the front one, and trying to figure out a way to disconnect the rear, i followed the loom back and saw that it was disconnected! Re-connected and reset the ecu and ta-da, it wants to rev past 5500rpm, doesnt have a big dip in the power. It pings a bit around 6500 but i will retard the timing a bit. Unreal
  17. does that have any releveance to the turbo itself? Like 45 asin 45mm compressor wheel? I couldnt find the thread that said the different models with their markings. Anyone else know, or was it from another board?

  19. That makes sence about the bov now.. thanks it sounds unreal when it goes Bzshhhhhh choo chooo choo chooo. Getting real complex with the sounds here . The car idles fine when the return line is taken off, but only if its blocked as its leaking air. That would tell me also that the std bov is shut during idle. As soon as you unblock the return line it idles terribly
  20. Ok, i agree with that. What im curious is what causes cars with good BOV's to make a BOV sound but instead of a continuous one, an intermidden sound, ala fluttering. Off to4r.com i have a video of a supra that did that, and was fitted with a hks ssq bov. I know its not important or anything like that, but if it makes a sound and i could have a choice, i'd rather have the one that i like better

  22. The article in zoom was pretty good, i guess the only info you are missing is performance increases on a similar engine. I'd suggest its minimal, but in terms of a high end engine it would be worth wile, and a race car would be noticable because every small bit counts.
  23. haha, i could eat 50psi, but my stock bov wont permit it . Im going to buy the RB25 turbo, found one. Is there any way from the outside with the intake pipes on that i can tell its a 25? Or do i have to measure the compressor wheel?
  24. hmm, think i know what im going to go towards.. as much as i would want more power.. How much more power could i squeeze from the VG over the 25 if they were both at the same level of tune? Ultimatley i know i'll be dissapointed if it has poor throttle response, hense the VG wont keep me satisfied over the 25
  25. If i use a RB25 turbo, does the dump have to be changed from my 25? Im asking a heap of questions i know, but i want to make sure i go the right way, and since i have quite a good dump pipe, dont want to get another one made which i will have to with a VG30 turbo. Also is the compressor outlet on the RB25 turbo the same size as the 20?
