  1. Or if you dont have a timing light, you can just adjust it by ear, but have to be extra careful for pinging. As a rough guage, the crank angle sensor is normally set in the middle of its slots, at least on every RB20 i've seen .
  2. Try giving stafford tune in brisbane a call on 0733569705. They are a motec specialist and also are the qld distributer . Ive had some experience with motec, but not for a few years, so i cant remember exactly.
  3. I think what sydneykid was originally saying, is that if you had an RB20 and an RB25 both with RB25 turbo's they would both have similar max power output. The 20's turbo really hurts its performance, but one advantage with a 25 is that you can run bigger turbo which also equals more power.
  4. The GCG unit would be much better... but how are you defining better? Better for engine wear, or better for power?
  5. I doubt that you will get a 7psi gain in boost. When i changed my cooler to a PWR tube and fin with custom end tanks i picked up around 1.5psi, i think that the big gain is intake temps and the fact the turbo doesnt have to work as hard.
  6. Can you get me a turbo? HKS2530 to be specific
  7. I just got a price for a knock sensor for my RB20.. $420.77 each which i thought was a bit through the roof. Do they use the same sensors as the RB30? This was through metro nissan in brisbane, where else should i be looking for them?
  8. Are the knock sensors on the RB20 the same as the RB30? Just hard to get parts for it otherwise
  9. I ran the diagnostics on my ecu and it came back with 2. 34 and 54 which are 34:Knock sensor and 54: auto send to ecu or something... 54 is explainable because there is no auto on it anymore. How much will it cost for a new knock sensor, and where is it on the engine so i can change it? Is there just one?
  10. err that was ment to be me, the post was by me not sideways05 .
  11. Similar problem to what im having at the moment. Ive also changed plugs, fuel filter, put a front mount on, and today i tested another computer, and setup an oil pressure guage to measure my fuel pressure and was also fine. The only things it points to now are one of the sensors is faulty, read this thread and do the diagnostics and see how it comes back, im guessing its a crank angle or knock sensor playing games http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...&threadid=19018 Let me know how it goes, im doing mine tomorrow night
  12. Was it not in zoom they had a turbo comparison on an RB25 which was "internally standard". Although it did have a different plenumn on it, the power was something like 306rwkw. The guy who i bought my car off is building a RB25 180, at 4000rpm it had 240rwhp. I dont know an overall power figure but it had std manifold and internals. I think not only is it a major factor as how old the engine is, but also the tuning of it. With poor tuning a standard engine will blow up, so to say that because one blew up with 400hp at the flywheel doesnt mean that thats the limit of an RB25. Many people i have talked to on the coast have said that the limits (with correct tuning and as long as the internals are fine, with all the correct parts ie injectors, turbos) for the RB25 is a bit over 300rwkw, with the RB20 being around 250rwkw.
  13. Its typical for an engine to run leaner on cold nights, as the air is denser. But one great thing with modern ecu's, they have temp sensors which are supposed to adjust the fuel accordingly. This probably doesnt relate to you car but i remember reading in zoom that anything like an intercooler could upset the AFM.
  14. When your car idles, do your revs fluctuate? By that i mean for 15secs its at 800rpm, next 15 secs its at 1200?
  15. Joel, the way i view different engines is percentage of revs. People say the holden v6 is torquey engine and has a good spread of power, but max torque is around 2300rpm which is almost exactly 50% of the way to the redline. The RB20 makes max torque at 3200rpm and revs to 8000, and has a usable powerband of around 4000rpm (thats what i would call a good spread of power) With your drag with the SR, your not really comparing fairly. He was probably right in the fat part of his power band, but only had a few thousand rpm to go till his rev limit (even tho you guys might have both been at at say 3500rpm). Although i have never driven in any really quick SR's, they have quite peaky powerband and dont rev like the RB's. You just have to listen to a mild SR, when it starts making good power he has to shift only a few secs later. While with the rb, albiet might make power later in the rev range, still has at least 4000rpm more to go before you need to shift. Agreed. Even tho my car has some fairly nice power roobbing problems and wont rev over 5500rpm, i could still beat other gts-t's with similar mods . I think standard they run 13.9's, i havent taken my car to the drags yet as there wouldnt be much point, but i have a FMIC, turbo back exhaust, pod filter, bleed valve etc so it should be good for mid 13's which isnt bad for a 180 . Just gotta get a 2530 + ECU!
  16. You could just take the cat off . Mine is gutted was tested by the RTA. It came up perfect... Ive been told that the nissan engines are very good for emissions.
  17. Everyone has a SR20 180, have only seen 1 or 2 other RB20's. Plus even tho sr's have more mid range, the rb20 will rev further. An RB's has about 4500rpm of usable power if you put the 25 turbo on it, what does the sr have?
  18. It varies, so its not just an air/fuel ratio thing. Its really irritating.. sometimes i'll drive it and it will rev quite hard, and suprise me, the other times it will hit a definate flat spot when i reach to 5500rpm. Ive tried different fuel, also tried a full tank to make sure its not a pickup problem, replaced the fuel filter. I havent done the diagnostics test yet, but apart from that i can only point it to the ecu, dirty injectors or a crap fuel pump (its a vl turbo pump but should be good for 180rwkw). When i was told that it was an auto ecu, i thought the auto might have some power adaption thing that effects the power
  19. The RB20 that i went for a drive in was pretty impressive, and it still had std dump pipe, crap fuel pump, std intercooler and was pinging at onl 12psi. Go for it, i cant wait to get mine!
  20. I have heard that microtech's are hard on fuel. From what ive read the wolf seems like a great ecu, especially for the money, but alot of people say to steer clear of it. IMHO thats because a lack of knowledge than anything else. In terms of getting the standard ecu re-tuned, i really cant see any value in doing that. It costs $700 odd and your still stuck with the std AFM ecu
  21. When i spoke to PWR about my core, they said one of the advantages with a tube and fin is that it doesnt get heat soaked as fast as a bar and plate, and also cools quicker.
  22. What sort of gains would i be look at getting by fitting an oil air seperator? I know the basic principles on how they work, but have never really read anything (zoom did an issue with it but i cant find it!) that shows what performance gains are gotten from it.
  23. I dont have too many clearance problems, im going to stick with the standard intake for now anyway. The only thing that happens is that the BOV touches the heat shielding under the bonnet, and on pipe just rubs so slightly enough to shine it up on the shielding aswell... The guy who i bought it off had an rb25 in a s13, he had to cut the bracing from the middle and remove all the shielding for it to fit with custom mounts
  24. Ive been told that the auto has different ignition curves, also does it have any learning features? Sometimes within the same day but different times that i start it, it develops noticably different power. About the diagnostic, if it finds a problem, does whatever it finds need replacing, or does it just need resetting, and thats what the diagnostic does?
  25. I think there are two different versions on what people call lag here. From what ive understood lag would be accelerationg slowly to 4000rpm and booting it, how long it takes to reach full boost is how much lag there is. Not when it makes boost.... Has anyone ever tried a RB25 compressor and core with a vg30 exhaust housing? Ive heard its a really good combination
