hey strich, yeah i saw the hybrid ones advertised. They are a bit cheaper than the others too. I was wondering what experience people have had with them. Good to hear some good reply's back on them. Will be seriously considering one soon i think

Robo quoted: Sorry for the late reply.. Yeah my old AFM was always a little faulty... At one stage when you just touched it, the car would idle like a yo-yo (up down, up down).. Yeah tried cleaning my old AFM with electrical Contact cleaner but did not do much.. On warm days the car felt alright (at low boost) and then as the nights got colder it would accelerate really well until about 4500 rpm then just dies...(well just felt slow) really really annoyinng.. I'll tell you when I swapped the AFM, I could even feel the difference in 1st gear... Happy days. Regards Rob Ps. Lets hope this fixes everyone's flat spots. haha Robo my rb20det is a dead replica of what you prescribed. I might go down to my import mate and see if i can swap afm's for a couple of days. Thanks

THIS LOW RPM ENGINE STALLING SAGA POSSIBLY SORTED
Mase replied to BOOSTMEISTER's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I recently fixed my problem. The timing was at 35deg adv instead of 20deg and the o2 sensor wasn't receiving full current. Now the vaiable idling has stopped and it is sounding a bit better but not going as hard which is understandable with the decrease in timing. What i don't understand tho is why my car wasn't pinging if the timing was at 35deg? -
Thanks for the replys everyone. I've decided to leave it for now and look at an rb25 turbo in the near future. Would have replied earlier but my net isn't working properly and i can view this website but not reply so im doing it at uni. Thanks again

A friend has a T3 turbo off his vl rb30det. He offered it to me for $350. Is this a decent upgrade for an rb20det and do you think this is a reasonably price?? It should be a straight bolt on shouldn't it? Anything in particular to look for with the t3's besides shaft play? All comments appreciated. Thanks Jase

grrrr, i got the same fine now too. This knob in a vl was stirring me up at the lights and i had a full car load of people screaming at me to just hammer this guy. At least i did it in style, the back end stepped out slightly and i nailed him, just a pity the cops nailed me!!! Was very silly i know and i shouldn't of been so stupid to take the bait but oh well.

It doesn't do it all the time tho, only occasionally. Once every two days or something, then it stops.

burt, when are you going to give lessons on how to be a perfect human being. Geez i'd love to be like you some day. I know for a fact zoix has roughly 4-500 in assests cuz im a mate of his so you just got owned. As for the wheels spinning etc, you are lucky you didn't lose any points zoix as i got the same fine and lost 3 points coming out of harrys for that thing except mine was cuz i had a loud car and i was in a high rev range. I have a heavy duty OS Geiken clutch and i occasionally chirp the wheels on take off and i know zoix has a new deiken racing clutch. However, i think he should of been able to handle it on flat surfaces. Overall i think some people should stop being so critical as this happens to most of us when we are young and zoix man i told you the coppers would be out saturday night down the coast, thats why i didn't go down with you in the sil so you just gotta take it on the chin mate. So.... when can we start these lessons burt?

one word, 'bitch'!!!! Zar im gettin jealous and at the end of the year when i come down to visit you fellas im not gonna be able to keep up!!!!

I think the problem has been solved. My ignition timing so was retarded it wasn't funny. Now it seems to be very conservative on the petrol and is going heaps harder!! Still have the occasional up and down idle tho so i will take that valve off and give it a clean. For all your rb20det people, i peaked power at 7200rpm, does this sound normal??? The dyno i was on was a bit out of whack too cuz i only got 73kw's at the wheels!!! hehe.
-
Just a few things i was hoping some of you might be able to help me on. My rb20 in my silvia is only getting roughly 330klms out of a tank. The tank size is 55L. This was with relatively easy driving etc. Also, the cars idle rises and falls dramatically sometimes at idle. Does anybody have any ideas what i should be looking for as to fixing this problem? All the rb has done to it is a k & n air filter which came off the old engine that was in it. Thanks for your help. Jase

****rb20 S13 Silvia Conversion****
Mase replied to zforce's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
I can't be stuffed reading all the stuff, i just want to know if your gonna separate anything at all and your location??? If so, i'd be interested in exhaust and front mount. -
My front cut came with a 3" front pipe already on there. I've heard that people are getting more power out of twin dump pipes???? Anybody got any hard facts???

THIS LOW RPM ENGINE STALLING SAGA POSSIBLY SORTED
Mase replied to BOOSTMEISTER's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Im having similar problems with my rb20det silvia. A mechanic friend adjusted an idle thing on the back of the manifold. It has improved but occasionally the idle drops and raises dramatically and when changing down gears sometimes it stalls. I have new iridium plugs, new vl turbo fuel pump. Do you think that maybe i need a regulator at all? This is really bugging me. -
oh yeah, the $2500 was including the rb20 front cut.
-
Snoop, are you doing the conversion yourself? If you are then i'd honestly put about $2500 aside for things such as timing belt, fuel pump, filter, oil, sparkies etc. Second of all, you will need to do something about the sump hitting on the sway bar and the clearance of the engine ie hitting the roof. Are you good with wiring? If not then put aside about 300 at least for getting someone to do the wiring and adjusting. If you already have a sr20det then stick with it. I promise you you'll be better off.
-
i thought that an rb25 into a silvia would be illegal but it's ok in a 180 as they are slightly heavier?????

Where is engine number printed? (RB25DET)
Mase replied to Grim's topic in General Automotive Discussion
If it's like the rb20's it's located just off the firewall on the passengers side halfway down the block on a little tab.
