  1. Good point Adam, but no. I like the banner, from a bias POV, but on a general note the R34 is more 'representative' of this forum. The R35 is still new, only a few of us have seen it (but yes it's beautiful), the hype is 98% media-based marketing and has hit many a nail on the head for Nissan. Also, the ratio of forum subsriber ownership of the R35 compared to the Skylines would be like putting a hair (from the scalp you dirty buggers) on a meat pie and saying "ok, that's how many of us own R35's". One last note. How could you put an R35, the Sydney skyline (no pun intended) and the bridge together in one shot, when it hasn't officially been 'brought over' yet? You might call it pioneering, or vision. I call it premature ejaculation.
  2. It'd get boring if you drove it every day. On the weekends you'd be taking out the 'work car'
  3. I think Clarkson's made a conscious decision not to rip into the R35. He gave a little itch every now and then that he wants to say it's a pile of James May's s**t, but he's well aware of the current popularity of the car. It'd look stupid if he said it was worth 2/10 when all the media coverage and testing proves how quick and affordable it is. Clarkson's always had a soft spot for the GTR, ever since the R32 came fresh from the Nissan factory. There isn't much to criticise the R35 on, weighing good vs. bad points, so he just went for the obvious achilles heel: it's kinda boring compared to the competition. IMO that point, in itself, can be discussed at length. What do you expect from a man that has driven every performance car since before any of us had pubes, and has ripped into them like a horny gorilla when other journo's were having wet dreams over the same cars.
  4. Wasn't going to come out and say it, but i totally agree. There were several corners that he took casually, and some where he hammered it. He annoyed me a little. At times the driver didn't seem to be really focused (on the nut-scratching bits). On the final straight he was looking at what appeared to be a timer, on the passenger side, he might as well have reclined and pulled out an Extra Dry. Either way, the time says it all. Great run.
  5. Have you checked to see what's behind the cover? If there's an oil cooler there it's got the cover there to keep oil temps up during winter, and taken off during summer/track days. During a respray the bar will be removed, so it wouldn't need covers to be placed on it. I'd remove it, but as long as it's not blocking airflow to radiator/intercooler it won't be a drama.
  6. Awesome vid. Excellent time, actually it's phenomenal. It's such a great all-rounder. The sound of the motor was ugly and droney. It got annoying after a couple minutes. Some mods (i.e zorst) should help that a little. Cheers for posting up the links
  7. I'm unconvinced. The engineer has an obligation to Nissan to keep the *power lies* a secret. They've done it before, why not now with so much at stake? Even just for PR purposes every Nissan employee will need to reaffirm the claims made by the company to avoid losing its credibility. I say he's not making up sh!t about the low-friction bearings, though 10% friction loss is amazing AND an awesome alibi, but if the engine makes more power he won't tell you regardless. If Nissan caught him tiddle-tadding he'd end up before the executive committee performing Seppuku.
  8. Your engine will be fine running oil that's done over 5000k's. Your turbo, with it's small and delicate bearing/s, won't be.
  9. and baffling/restrictors.
  10. Love the build Awesome pics on page 1, cheap and dirty looking- my favourite. THANK GOD someone bought that GTR shell and stripped it! That colour scheme is DAMN UGLY Looking forward to seeing where you blokes take it suspension & engine wise. Cheers
  11. I saw an MX-5 on the central coast over teh weekend. Plates read 'GAY-XXX' (forgot the last three numbers) and we all cacked up BUT with a set of forged rims and a fat exhaust it'd be more of a man's car

    My New R35 Gtr

The thread title is like a flashing neon sign at a strip club.
  13. if its next to the jack then i'd say thats the antenna motor.
  14. I've heard the noise on an SR20. It had old oil and was thrashed around. It got worse. The oil was finally changed but the noise stayed. Change the oil
  15. Really depends on your personal needs. I'd strongly consider full comp though. At the VERY LEAST get a good quality alarm with an immobiliser. That's the best insurance you can start with.
  16. Meh. I'm not impressed. Give the GT-R 2 BAR of boost and we'll see who's got the minerals.
  17. The running costs are really the same as any other big 6-cylinder. Insurance can be high ($1800 for me) but apart from that you shouldn't see any extra expenses. It's not cheap because you'll WANT to throw more money at the car. If you can live with a stockish R33 with only fire & theft insurance it's not too bad. If you get the modifying bug (you will) so many chances to spend money will pop up.
  18. Here's some tips: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/bu...e-f-t35129.html Skylines are reliable and haven't got any common weaknesses to worry about. Just make sure the engine runs well (get a compression test if possible) and there isn't evidence of a major accident. Cheers
  19. It's a great feeling yeah? Congratulations (yes, to the other drooling babies too)
  20. Probably swapped rims with fresh rubbah. Someone forgot about tightening 'em up.
  21. My mate has a 32 GTR that's seen its second rebuild. Apparently it's impossible to get the clearances spot on at that stage. So a crate motor is really ideal for a build-up because the clearances are exact.
  22. The build sounds awesome I've heard only great things about the N1's, both street and drag/circuit. They're almost as responsive as the stock ceramic GTR turbos but can make over 300awkw. If i was you i'd seriously consider N1's (or a Garrett/HKS equivalent with similar A/R's). The High-Octane R32 GTR, before it was totally rebuilt, ran N1's and pulled 400awkw from memory. Obviously that's a race engine with mega cams, but shows what the turbo's are capable of.
  23. The induction sound is air sucked through the pod AND the compressor turbine spinning and compressing that air, which was previously muffled with the stock airbox + filter. It's normal (and sounds sahweet) as you come on boost from around 2000RPM+.
  24. I say you should keep it simple. Coilovers Full exhaust Boost controller (after the exhaust) consider an oil cooler as well See how you go with that setup. You'll realise gradually what mods you want after that
