  1. I have noticed lately, many drivers (in cars) are not giving way to busses as they pull out after picking up/setting down passengers. This doesn't excuse the bus driver in your situation. But I can see the reason for busses running late.
  2. Cheers - thanks Chris. Thats exactly what I'm going to do - Just making sure its the correct part, due to some auto retailers having "no clue" if I asked the same question One other question regarding the connection to the hand brake (image attached) - I want to bypass this "lock out" as I'll have passengers watching while I drive. If read the diagram correct it seems the green wire just needs to be grounded in order to bypass the hand brake lock out? Or does it need a +12V feed?
  3. Would this harness adaptor work? ---> http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NISSAN-1995-ISO-HARNESS-AWH3120-/150669004450?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2314928ea2
  4. Best compromise for performance, value, looks and safey. IS300... When you are tired of it - sell it or drop in a 2JZ-GTE.... Or build a an awesome sleeper IS300.
  5. I suppose it depends - If he is running an aftermarket ECU - The TCU will still function somewhat independently. "Maybe" is possible to use the TCU from a non turbo R34 to control an auto from an 34 GTt... Just throwing some ideas around - I don't know if it will work though.
  6. I'm in. I'll be going just on the Sunday to checkout the cars at the show and shine - Take some pics. Anyone from the northern suburbs wanna cruise down together? If any one is interested might think of a location for a meet up point.
  7. It's good stuff. Used it on my head lights and other plastics that need polishing.
  8. Not sure if this will be of much help. R34 non-turbo autos have a separate trans control unit to the ECU (Compared to the turbo model's all in one ECU+TCU). But in saying that you may have alot of work ahead of you if you wish to have it strengthened for higher power outputs. The advantage is you will have tiptronic functionality.
  9. Awesome - thanks for the info. Is it a simple swap out as I imagine it is? (plug n go)
  10. Thanks - I meant wiring harness. For me it's a direct swap - old unit out, new unit in with the harness adaptors. I had no idea that the HU swap could cause the above to happen. Learn something new everyday.....
  11. Thanks guys. I ended up getting the Blaupunkt New York 800 non-sat nav version from Germany. Got it for just a little over ~$600.00AUD - Price is close to the Clarion VX401A Now I wait. Any of you guys sell the Nissan (R34) to Blaupunkt adaptors and antenna plug converters? I think the Nissan antenna plug has 2 prongs.
  12. Hi guys, I'm in the market for a new multimedia HU. Sat Nav is a "nice to have", but not essential as I already have a portable sat nav. I have an R34 currently running the stock Matsushita CD/Tape/Radio double din. After much searching there are two multimedia HU that I like, which seem to be good value/performance/asthetics. I'm not a fan of fancy looking HU - The more stock looking the better IMO. I'll be running the stock speakers for now. Blaupunkt New York 800 (has everything) Clarion VX401A (has everything except sat nav) Right now I'm leaning towards the VX401A for value, but I'd like to know - Is it worth spending the extra cash on the Blaupunkt? The Blaupunkt "seems" to be a better unit overall and has 22WRMS per channel compared to the Clarion's 18WRMS per channel. How do they compare sound quality wise? I noticed the prices differ quite greatly from different countries. Is it possible to just buy a unit online (overseas model) and have the maps changed for Australia in the case of the Blaupunkt. And any retailers for the Blaupunkt New york 800 as well as the Clarion VX401A - the usual places don't seem to stock them (or know of them). Any suggestions or advice is welcome.
  13. I'll break it down (R34 non turbo) Fast = no (on par with current 4 cylinder camry) Handling = good Braking = good Interior space = average, roughly the size of a late 90s subabru liberty, but the skyline's (sedans) boot is huge. Value for money = bad, the car is from the late 90s and prices are still high. Style = each to their own - but I personally still find them very attractive in this day and age. Fuel consumption = Average 11 to 12L/100km mixed Insurance = Bad, expensive for such an old car with not that much performance Aftermarket Parts = Good, lots of parts available Wear/tear parts and Servicing = Average, nothing special it's a "normal car", parts can be bought from Nissan dealerships for a reasonable price, sometimes cheaper than elsewhere. D*ckhead attention = bad, every man and his dog wants to race you..... you will lose Cop attention = Debatable, keep it reasonably stock looking, non-riced and no cannon exhaust, it's OK.
  14. Not too sure if this will help the OP. I had a similar issue with my Lexus IS200. I found that once I fully flushed the power steering system - steering became normal - possibly some of the old fluid is still in the system. It took 2 fluid changes to sort it out.
  15. ^ Good point. iPad (or even any other tablet) could be a good option come to think of it. Going off topic slightly - I don't own an iPad or any other tablet. Does iPad have software you can stream audio/video from any shared network drive?
  16. LOL - You will find many R35 drivers aren't really car enthusiasts, just posers with money that look down on us mere skyline drivers. I'm jealous
  17. Love the NSX - was my dream car, but damn those prices are pretty much R34 GTR money.
  18. + the joy of 1 to 2 year warranty that comes with the notebook, the event it breaks down
  19. Another possible solution (ugly). Buy a decent laptop + docking station. Have the docking station mounted in your boot with all the accessories (tuners, GPS dongle, in-cabin touch screen) connected to it and the audio routed to a head unit with aux-in or a dedicated amp. The docking station is then wired to a DC to DC transformer to "up" or "down" the voltage from the car's 12V system. Cost wise this will be much easier IMHO.
  20. Off topic Would a Z18ET head bolt directly onto an L20 bottom end with no mods? Sounds tempting. Definately have a soft spot for the L series engines. Indestructable. Mine has done roughly ~300,000k, odometer stopped at 250,000km - Always gets a flogging when it's driven, but oil is changed every 5000km with out fail - all original parts. Currently my Bluebird's stock head is off being reconditioned and mechanically cleaned, so much carbon gets caked onto the exhaust ports - it's crazy. Only reason for the head coming off is because one of the head bolts snapped, but lucky no blown headgasket. Just doing the cleaning and reconditioning due to all the effort taking the head off.
  21. CarPC is lots of effort. But you could have a potentially superior product in the end. But here are some pointers that may assist. - Most importand is a good quality 12v to 12v PSU with time delay and some sort of battery power for shutdown sequence - this is because of voltage not being so stable in the car. - SSD for the OS and main software is a must - OS wise I'd go Windows 7 - Reason being its just easier for anybody to work on it and you will have less issues with drivers - so much more support or run Windows CE for fast startup/shut down (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsembedded/en-us/evaluate/windows-embedded-automotive-7.aspx) - Aim for a fanless design, ensure it will operate in extreme heat - Try to have a system that can process 1080p video. - Having a touch screen is a must have - and it must also be able to function in the Australian heat. - Must have bluetooth so you can use a smart phone as your connection to the internet. - You will need an external usb tuner for radio, tv, GPS - You will still need an external amp for sound.
  22. Admins - please close this thread - it's been covered to death and polluting the n/a section.
  23. I was refering to actual road speed. ie. if your your speedo reads 100km/h, is your car's speed relative to the ground 100km/h.
  24. Would capacity, compression ratio or bore/stroke ratio come into play, even though the capacity difference is very small.
  25. LOL ^_^ Didn't mean it that way, just a way of describing the stickers the best I can.
