  1. People that slam doors are usually one or more of the following: - Don't have a car - Cannot afford a car - Don't know anything about cars - Have a car with rooted doors, so they slam doors out of habit - Generally people that talk BS - Generally rough with anything they hold. - Usually messy
  2. I got pearl white on my R34. I use the Meguiars tech wax 2.0, after a claybar - works well. Trick is multiple light coats of wax.
  3. Yeh - true. Wishes will remain wishes... At the same time the S chassis (S15) would be good to bring back especially since all the R&D has been done. Maybe find ways to make it cheaper/lighter and put a different shell, engine and safety features to suit. Profit! They jam enough equipment into your typical Toyota Yaris/Mazda 2/Nissan Micra I'd rather a pov spec RWD car anytime
  4. Amen. My dream version would be something like (obviously using modern bits and to keep it cheap): - Small light weight sedan, coupe, ute, wagon - say roughly the dimentions of a modern Yaris sedan - RWD - 1.6L to 2L alloy engine with direct injection, with an option for a low boost turbo setup. - 6 speed manual from an S15 (light weight tranny) - 5 speed auto option with tiptronic from 350z (still keeping it light weight) - Minimal sound insulation (keep it light and cheap), but with option for people that want it. - All alloy components where possible and plastic to reduce weight and cost - Front and side airbags (whatever the minimum to meet regs.) - VDC, TCS and ABS etc... (whatever the minimum to meet regs.) - Brakes from R34 non-turbo (aka Maxima/300zx brakes) - R200 LSD - Basic interior with A/C - Manual window winders, with an option for electirc windows if people so desire - Premium sounding 2 speaker audio setup, with Single DIN AM/FM, aux in, DAB+ and USB - no need for CD, extra speakers or subs. - No other un-needed electrics.
  5. Nissan pearl white QT1
  6. Rich drivers - They are one of the worst offenders (cutting in and out of traffic and forgetting to use their indicators grinds my gears), paying the bill is just an excuse for them to drive worse and think they own the roads. I think everyone must take a re-test every 3 years. With an eye test and basic reaction test. Everyone gets 3 chances. 1st time pass - You get a discount on your rego and the test is free. If you fail you get a 2nd chance. 2nd chance - If you pass you stll get a discount on your rego but pay an "admin/re-test fee". If you fail you get a 3rd chance. 3rd chance - Go to any registered driving school and learn until you are deemed competent and re-test. You pay full rego and another "admin/re-test fee". If you keep failing repeat "3rd chance" until you are competent. Then drive around with P plates for 1 year.
  7. Wow - Thanks for the heads up. Yeh, no V8s allowed which is a shame - especially since the LS400 isn't that quick - they should really put it in the excepetion list. You get SV6 commodores that are faster. Stupid.
  8. I'm going to revive this thread My cousin is looking to buy his 1st car. He isn't into any sporty cars, more of a cruiser/luxury car. I've looked at small cars and they don't seem to offer good value for money. eg. a 1996 Pulsar with high Ks is almost the same price as larger and more equiped Maxima of the same year. His budget is around 5K and is willing to stretch the budget to 7K if the car is in mint condition - he is a student and on his Ps at the moment. The car has to be reasonably modern, aircon, automatic with airbags and ABS. Preferably Japanese. I've narrowed down to 2 cars which seems to fall in the price bracket. Lexus ES300 or Nissan Maxima J32 Has anyone had any experince with these cars? Are there any other cars recommended?
  9. I'm guessing little knowledge... Don't know. One thing to keep in mind is Nissan engineers (any car manufacturer) that work on power trains have unlimited dyno time and are highly trained/educated. Joe Blow thinks a pod filter is better and bolts it on.... Funny thing is pod filters are actually cheaper than all the complex piping and airbox systems.... So why would Nissan bother putting such an expensive and complex setup if it was crap in the 1st place....
  10. If you are taking to a shop to get done, might as well do the timing belt, water pump and tensioners.
  11. +1 IMHO - The K&N or any quality high flow panel filter will be more than good enough. Even on a lightly modded turbo model the highflow panel filter will still be more than enough. I was a student when I bought my R34. Panel filter and a high flow cat gave it a bit more perk in the mid to high range. No difference in the low end.
  12. Coil packs. Prone to give issues on R34 that have done roughly 100,000k.
  13. See if you can change to another regular combination.... No point ruining your car just to fit a number plate IMHO
  14. My heart rate is high in the rev range (from the heart rate monitor on the treadmill and eliptical trainer). I'm probably rated as "un-fit" Going hard I can easily reach 185bpm. Going all out I've hit 200bpm - with sweat gushing from every pore. Heart rate is usually at the gym is around 175~180bpm My work colleague is much bigger than me (obese) but much more fit hits only 150bpm, barely breaks a sweat.
  15. Thanks I'll give it a try. Might get a mate to watch me initially, I may faint
  16. I'll definately try dieting more, I just love my food too much True about processed food - That's probably my stumbling block. I'm going to try going for no booze for the next 2 to 3 months see if it makes a difference, even though I've cut back heaps. Self control is damn hard.
  17. Currently weighing in just under 80kg, was at 88kg. I'm ~5'9" Trying to get down to around ~75kg, but my main objective is to be more toned and get rid of the lose flab around the mid section.

  19. I change my oil every 5000km on all my cars. Very true about not driving the car often. The R34 sits in the garage and only taken out on some sunny days, now the suspension is slighlty noisy, streering sometimes groans. Once I use the car for a few days in a row - no squeeks or groans.
  20. Hi all, I'm in the progress of getting my self into shape (I'm not intending to go bulky and full of muscle), just to lose some excess fat and tone up. I've been at it for nearly 4 months, excluding the christmas/new year holidays. Initially it's been great I lost nearly 6kg in my 1st 2 weeks. However I seem to have levelled out quick - I'm realistically not shedding anymore weight, I've only lost roughly another 2kg for the last 3 months. Total weight loss is roughly 8kg at this time. I have 1 hour lunch break and my workplace has a gym onsite - So I spend 30min working out. My routine is quite simple - I do this Monday to Friday. 15min cardio - either bike, treadmill or eliptical trainer (depends which machine is available) 15min light weights I go bike riding or play basketball on weekends. I've tweaked my diet, but not changed it - I'm still a foodie. - I eat less at dinner and try to reduce my carbs at dinner time. - Eat out much less - No longer go out drinking every Friday So basically - is my 30 min gym workout worth it? ie. effort vs. gain. Cheers
  21. 1996+ Pulsar would be better IMHO. No timing belt to worry about and the 1.6L engine will give you a little bit more torque especially if you run the a/c.
  22. Thanks for the info. Very informative. I was actually thinking/aiming more conservative. Around ~150rwkw The car is used mainly for long distance driving (road trips) highway runs and through the twisites. My main reasons. - I'm on a budget - Less complexities - so I can convert it back to an n/a easily (if i so desire) - My car is an auto, so I'm not too keen with putting too much power through the stock trans. - I plan on retaining VCT functionality - I have no intention (unless I really have to) of upgrading to big brake kits or beefing up the driveline. I got a few more questions regarding my "proposed" setup. - With my lower power requirements - does this mean I just get my current stock N/A ECU remapped *or* must I go for a remapped GTT manual ECU (due to running an auto)? - Will my AFM need changing? - Does this mean I can run lower boost? (ie. no need to run 6~7psi, can I get away with running 4~5psi?) - Will the stock GTT SMIC be enough or will I need to get an FMIC? - Will a stock GTT turbo be too big?
  23. Thanks for that. I've passed on the info.
  24. Hi all, Thread revival! I have a close family friend who has the same issue. He has V35 premium coupe with factory 6 stack Bose/Navi system. It has the same error as the OP mentioned. The CD system makes a "grinding" sound and eventually stops. Radio and AUX seem to be OK. Just wondering who would be the best contact in Melbourne to either fix the HU or replace it with an aftermarket one if need be. The issue is rather sudden - there were no tell tale signes before the problem. We have tried doing the reset etc, with no avail. We are not confident to pull apart the dash ourselves - So we prefer a "one stop" shop to perform the job.
