  1. that my friend... is called the nurburgring.. you go through the turnstyles, do a lap or 2 in any car.. and go home again.. perfect!! the other thing with europe is that other countries are a mere hour or 2 drive away... so even if each country only had one track... you could still have a few tracks within a few hours drive.. not like aus.. where you drive for hours and see nothing. drift and touge are cool, aswell as wangan racing, because their is a certain tuffness about these cars... the thing is though that in japan.. street drift or street racing is taken seriously over there.. the cars are set up to be great on the streets.. they arent commodores painted in bright green and orange with cheap chromies on the front and stocko's on the back.. with white leather interiors and 5 guys all decked out in everlast gear. stripped out track cars are great, but a really tough street orientated car is much more desirable in my books. games and movies like need for speed underground and fast and the furious havent done anything productive towards this behaviour.. and its had a big influence on the younger generation.. its what they look up to.. i did a favour for a friend and organised a few mates to take a couple of kids for a drive around the block at a 5 yr olds birthday party (with the parents consent)... they all wented to get in the stock atmo supra because it was off fast and furious.. and one kid kept calling the 180sx a 240sx. they didnt care for how fast the cars were or how good they handled... they went on looks and the sound of the blow off valve... this is the generation that are now starting to get their licences.. also... i think alot of peoples arguments on here.. and warps.. this one is aimed slightly at you.. stems from the amount of amenities in most towns and suburbs that are available to everyone, to use free of charge, except when theres an official meet/game on. for eg.. i grew up in muswellbrook... a small country town.. we had an athletics field, soccer field, rugby league field, rugby union field, netball courts, indoor basketball court, squash court, 6 tennis courts, olympic pool with an indoor heated pool, cricket oval, cricket nets, 2 seperate hockey fields, and a golf course, not to mention glenbawn dam for boats and skiing or wakeboarding.... all of these were open to anyone to just rock up and do whatever they wanted.. a $100 cricket bat and ball and a few mates and you could play cricket from dawn to dusk if you wanted to.. noone cared that you could die if you got smacked with the ball or bat.... or if you wanted you and a mate could go down and kick a ball around for half an hour.. you could do it every afternoon, or every sunday arvo, if it was raining or stinking hot.. no probs, see what happens tomorrow... 5 min there, 30 min playing, 5 min home. you still had enough time to have a weekend doing other stuff. they were maintained and paid for by local sponsers and the council.. the town is surrounded by serveral mines... multi million dollar operations that are seeing new roads built and old ones being gated off that are no longer in use.. and with masses of land that cannot be populated around the area of a mine.. due to noise and dust.. mine back roads is where i grew up. for people like us, that are into cars or bikes, there is a massive amount of time and money involved in doing what we love.. and we dont have the freedom to enjoy our toys whenever we want to, like other people.. dirt bikes were illegal in the common... yet you could drive your 4wd there or ride mountain bikes.. there was a motocross track, but unless you were a part of the motocross club and raced on club days, the gates to the track were locked every other day... now before you say... why didnt i just become a member of the club?? well... because i didnt want to race.. racing and competing doesnt interest me.. and there were regualtions that you must attend x amounts of meets per year at other tracks to be a member and have x amounts of safety gear etc... i just wanted to ride my bike and have fun on the terrain it was built for!! thats what every car enthuisiast/hoon wants to do.. that shouldnt be a crime.
  2. Lupes... i make pod boxes in my spare time. using 2mm aluminium, so it actually does something against engine bay heat.. if you make me up a rough template out of a pizza box.. i will make one and send it back to you. mates rates.. coz you got a cool 31! haha. raw aluminium doesnt stand out half as much as polished shit.. i hate polished.. its ghey. heres a pic of my old r33 with a box that i polished.. ignore the blue trim around the edges.. this was in fashion in 2005
  3. yeh my old boy held the fastest time for singleton to windsor via the putty in his escort. the routine for getting pulled over went like this. according to him, bit of a chase.. pull over when your ready. cop checks your car and your licence and where your from. cop plants gas pedal of your car and holds it wide open for a few minutes while you watch. if it blows up.. cop bids you good night and goes on his way, leaving you there. if it doesnt blow up, cop bids you good night, and goes on his way. dad even knows of atleast three GTHO's that are possibly still at the bottom of cliffs after being totalled on the putty road.. i find that interesting.. if they crashed, they would just walk away (if they could walk away) and leave it. in the world of today tonight and a current affair feeding people garbage and telling them what to do and what not to do, everything gets taken way too far. 40 years ago.. if you slipped on a wet patch or stumbled on a gutter, you'd shake it off and tell yourself to watch where your going.. now you'd sue them for as much as you can get. i find it hard to fathom... that the politicians in power at the moment, who are around the age of my father, seem to have forgotten how they were brought up and the things that they did when they were kids.. i mean, they are the ones making the rules.. and they can see whats different now, to how it was then.. when smacking was not child abuse, but an act of discipline.. you never talked back to your elders, and police and headmasters were feared and respected. at the end of the day, parents are to blame really. like they say.. the most that you can spend on any child is time.
  4. that is a farkin lot of red bro.. fuel system is FTW though.
  5. hey guys... im refurbishing my lower control arms.. with.. wait for it.. new bushes and ball joints!!! huzzah! now ive found nismo ones for the same price as nolathane ones.. i like nolathane coz they is red and stiff as a mofo.. but i like nismo coz they is nismo.. and it means i can get a dinosaur sized glitter nismo sticker for the windscreen. hehe. just wondering which others would go for in my situation.. they are for a pure track car. comfort and NVH not a concern. also.. where the heck can i get some steering rack bushes?? sydneykid?? any ideas?? cheers Linton
  6. best post of the thread right thurr, mr birds. i tip my hat.
  7. that is precisely why my build is taking so long.. house + renovations = no money for poor old car = very sad me! but i know its sitting there safe in the garage and noone is going to send us a letter saying we have to move out in 30 days. Damo, with your dash.. how does it fare with time and working around it?? i started prepping the dash and was about to cover it when the mrs said i should wait and do it last, when its ready to drive again, as the suede may go shitty with the dash just sitting there and me working around it?? has yours degraded at all with activity around it.
  8. ooooooooo i cant wait to see this thing in action again.. with the new front aero, and wheels that actually fill out the guards.. it looks like a proper jap time attacker.. well done fellas.
  9. im not whinging... im just saying the guys that street race are going to do it no matter what (im not one of them).. like you say there are plenty of motorsports events on.. i dont expect anything handed to me.. i work, get paid, and pay my bills, unfortunatly there is not enough left over, so i work overtime and another job to have some spending money for myself... maybe in a few years when the mrs is out of uni and can pay her share of the home loan then i can start really getting involved in proper events.. but for me that requires a trailer and a tow car.. 2 extra rego's, 2 lots of running costs etc. its expensive to do it right.. and i cant afford it.
  10. thats a good idea.. in theory.. but my point is, its going to happen on the roads anyway, like habbibi said, they will keep doing it on the streets no matter what the cops do.. take their car?? meh, mum and dad will buy them another one.. take their licence for good??.. meh, they are already breaking the law.. as if driving without a licence will stop them.. plus if you dont have a licence.. then they cant take it away again.. throw them in jail?? well we all know they wont take it that far.. people dont even get put in jail these days for rape or for flogging a dude in a wheelchair with a metal pole ticking all those boxes and making it accessible and affordable to regular joe bloe is going to be near impossible.
  11. if the government wont give us somewhere to go.. then have police supervision at the location of the street drags. in newcastle, drags were held at kooragang, there werent many accidents.. the road was good and wide and well lit.. and there was a little area for drifting or donuts.. why donuts are fun i dont know.. but each to their own. a drag strip even in the suburbs will be no different to habbibi flying past your house in his 5L VN with no exhaust.. and it will be no louder than a bloody airport... which most major country towns will have a small airport.. scone, tamworth, coffs harbour, newcastle, etc. and it most cars are not as obnoxious as a 2 stroke kart.. or 8 of them. and plenty of places have kart tracks, as they do motocross tracks.. 20 4 stroke or 2 stroke bikes are plenty noisy. with all the government infrastructure and new sub-divisions and industrial ares going up.. surely they could dedicate a little bit of area, and a little bit of hot mix and have a small track.... even if its still illegal.. if the police grabbed everyone they get for street racing and said "look.. we know you do it.. if you go to this road here and do it there.. we wont bug you.. but dont do it in town, if we catch you in town again, we'll take your car" and the police turned a blind eye to the good citizens that follow their instructions. the majority would do that and everyone would be happy.. and the idiots would be the only ones getting done. they also need to stop with the "unroadworthy modifications" illegal maybe.. but saying our cars are unroadworthy is ridiculous.. the majority of us spend big money on good tyres and brakes, and we have brilliant chassis and handling mods.. only looking at a blow off valve and saying its unroadworthy is absurd.. my daily driver is much more unroadworthy and unsafe.. and i drive it everyday!
  12. exactly.. as with grease, happy days, etc though.. they didnt show it as being stupid on a suburban street.. they still had a place, they arranged a meet time.. i think this is what it lost in all aspects of life these days... TIME and PLACE! even a fist fight was arranged.. this time and place.. you and me... your mates wouldnt step in unless one of their mates would step in. and even though you were beating each other up.. there was a respect between the two, and when enough was enough, you walked away.. now they will jump you 5 on 1, kick the shit outta you, and leave you for dead. i cant say ive attended many motorsports events.. i cant say ive been an angel on the roads... but i will have my spurt, by myself, out the back of whoop whoop.. because its an 8 hour round trip to the nearest race track.. what if something happens to the car on the track?? burst a hose, blow a hole in something, dump oil or coolant or some other fluid?? then what?? i either need to organise a tow car and trailer, or a tilt tray to get it 4 hours home.. motorsport and track days are expensive.. and can be made more expensive in a real hurry.. why do that when i can go 10 min from home, give it a spurt, and put it back in the garage?? thats what the police have to look at.
  13. those wheels are absolute porn mate.. i want.
  14. bingo.. thats 4 race tracks that i know of.. in a reasonably close area. you guys are right.. the stereo typical young male is something you will never stop.. i think you have to discipline them like you would a puppy.. reward the good behaviour and ignore the bad.. if you smack a dog for being bad, its getting attention, good or bad, thats what it wants.. a reaction from you. if you smack a dog, it can make it aggressive later on, its only attack is to bite, if it sees a hand coming for its head, its first thought is its going to get smacked, so it will bite, the difference is whether it bites hard or soft.. my old boy had a good idea.. every town has its own "drag strip" a place that people have been going to for generations. every one knows about it, and used to turn a blind eye as it was usually away from town.. why cant police make it an organised meet.. block off the road.. supervise the behaviour, throw on a sausage sizzle, get to know the kids.. nut out the bad ones from the good ones.. look over their cars, dont defect them, instead encourage them to modify them safely, point out defects and suggest other ways to modify them.. if 2 weeks later, there has been no change taken on the suggested mods, then defect them.. police need to get these kids on side, to respect the police and want to do the right thing in the right place.. the way they are treating it at the moment is inspiring hate among everyone involved, and lets face it, some of the wild cars out there are paid for by, well, you know.. it didnt come from working 9-5 at k-mart.. if a cop pisses off one of these guys.. then its a whole other war brewing. and its the poor sod driving his reasonably stock r33 to work one day that gets hounded by the cops for no reason.
  15. i had my phone ready for if kate asked for people to ring in... but she didnt.. i left a message on the hack site though.. maybe if alot of others do this hack will revisit it and help seperate the enthusiast that gives their car a fun loving squirt every now and then, and those that purposely carry out proper illegal activities because its illegal. victoria is a small state.. with several tracks.. and a boat ride over to tassie.. i dont think those idiots should be complaining about their track situation NSW is a huge state... with 2 actual race tracks good enough for cars.. personally... i think the way to stop hoons is to start at school. more people drive in adult life than they do maths or geography. they need to approach provisional licence holders like bike riders.. to get your L's you have to go to a training centre and complete a 2 day course on bike control and riding, stay on your L's for a minimum of 6 months.. the book in to a training centre to do another rider training course and a supervised road ride. then you have to be on your p's for 12 months before you can ride a bigger, more powerful bike. firstly, this sorts the people that cant ride from the people that can.. then it sorts out those that really want to ride a bike.. from those that want a bike to impress their mates.. then after 12 months, youve learnt a higher level of bike control and can take on a bigger bike. with cars.. you walk in to the RTA, drive around the block, and youve got your licence. i think in order to get a provisional licence.. you should have to complete a course, with skidpan and high speed test in the wet and dry, and in a light car and a heavy car, if you pass.. you can have a provisional licence. if you fail.. you cant drive, stay on your l's until your ready. i also think its too easy for kids to get a hold of money.. i know parents want their kids to have a safe and reliable car.. but i think their should be a limit as to what banks loan under 25's.. im 25, and i look back to the cars ive owned.. and they have been so easy to get a hold of.. i have been an idiot before, but i learned my lesson when i lost my licence when i was 20 and that was pre turbo's.. i havent had a speeding fine since, i think back to my p plate days and can barely remember them.. all that ego and machonisim that was built up in TAFE carparks means nothing now.. but it couldve caused serious and irrepairable damage to myself or others. cheers Linton
  16. they also need to seperate those that drive stupid with 4 of their friends in the car. regardless of the car.. that is just stupid.
  17. well i feel extremely disheartened that those people have represented "hoons" on a respected national radio news spot. they have done us no favours in being seen in a good, respectable light.. now not only old people hate us.. young people will hate us too. why cant they interview normal folk?? ones that can atleast speak with decent language, not "i spent $60000 on my car, others might say buy a house or sumfin but i dont give a shit aye, i love it and ill keep doin it" seriously! shane... or steven.. i cant remember his name now... he did a good job.. but i think what he said will be forgotton compared to the first people. the problem is half of these cars that attend illegal drags are skylines.. heck, there was a skyline being revved up in the background. the gen pop needs more education as to why we modify cars, why our cars are not "unsafe" when modified correctly and why we do what we do.
  18. hey guys... you all know my thoughts on the r35... but ive seen the first one that actually made me stop and admire it. saw this on the speed hunters blog.. its amazing how good these things look with a decent ride height, skirt kit and big spacers on the stock wheels to make them sit flush... makes them actually look like a supercar.. a rival for porsche.
  19. flush = win mexican = flop
  20. yeh alloy steering spacer, gives you more feeling.. great idea. rose jointed rack ends.. pillow ball type rack ends... gets rid of the wobbly tie rod end and makes it a solid connection.. Just Jap have some cheap ones for $150 or you can go exy jap ones, like Super Now, JIC, Ikeya Formula or Kazama.
  21. fark me you guys are rough.. i wouldnt bother selling a car to any of you based on the fat waste of my time and the insult to my car. dont haggle.. its a pain in the arse.., make an offer... but dont haggle. if the car is good, then its good.. if its worth what the owner is asking, then pay it, dont haggle, it makes you look cheap. dont umm and uhh... you either want the car, or you dont.. you either have the cach, or you dont. unless there is one car asking x amount when all the other models are cheaper than x amount. think about it this way... if you make a ridiculous offer and say thats all youve got, and you get denied, then you might miss out on the car, which you obviously have an interest it, or you will look like an idiot when you ring up the next day and offer more, after youve said thats all you had. for the seller... worst case is hes still got the car.. maybe he missed out on the cash.. but hes still got the car... you dont.. you missed out. dont rock up at a car and look at it, and then go find out if you can get the money.. Know you can get the money before you even start looking. and take the correct money... ive had an idiot who was coming to buy a bike off me... id advertised it for 3800, but told this guy he could have it for 3500... he said he wanted it, drove 4 hours down from coffs to come and check it out, but oh my... he only brought $3000 with him... and expected i would just take that.. i told him to come back when he had the extra $500.. i have owned 16 cars over my 10 years of having my licence... all of those have been excellent examples, and most of them have been a once only look.. i narrow my search down via the internet.. and then basically pick one based on colour, mods and location.. rock up with the cash and expect to drive the car home that day. having said that, i am a mechanic, with a bit of body knowledge.. ive only not been satisfied with 2 cars ive ever looked at.. but my mentality is that there is nothing that cant be fixed.. little things can be tidied up, its not worth the risk of losing an overall good tidy car because it has a paint chip or something... getting the car is worth more to me than a few repairs that id probably change later anyway. every car i buy comes with a 5 year build plan, which includes a turbo, engine and gearbox rebuild.. though i get bored and want to change a year later. if it has damage that you werent aware of... by all means, haggle the price of the repairs.. but dont discount the repairs, as this could lead to a better overall car.. i once looked at a my02 rex, had a bit of hail damage on the bonnet, none on the roof, i wouldve just fitted a c/f bonnet but old mate would not drop his price of $24000 which was way overpriced compared to others. ended up getting a mint example for $21000. buyers look you guys are stating is insulting to alot of car owners.. its sad that alot of sellers are reasonably dishonest, but you can generally pick this up from the person selling it and their demeanor. ive knocked away a heap of buyers over the years with offers when they know full well that what im selling is a pristine example.. i will not haggle, i will flat out refuse you.
  22. rb20's can take a pizzling... limiter bounce well after the rings are shot and the detonation is going mental! what makes you a good driver is learning the car.. knowing your car and how it reacts under given situations.. being able to feel what the tyres are doing on the road surface.. everyone on here will give their car a bit of a punch every now and then.. noone can or will deny that.. but there is a time and a place.. and if youve just got the car, that place is a skidpan and that time is with a professional instructor. you need to push the car beyond its limits in a controlled environment so you know where they are and how it will react. the reason new GTR drivers pound into trees is because over 20 years, the attessa system tends to get a little slow.. they are already slow reacting in the r32 when new.. so they punch it around a corner, and it steps out, so they counter steer it, and then the front wheels kick in and spit them off the side of the road into the nearest immovable object. GTR drivelines can cop a pounding, 9k launches all day if its tight.. but the engines cant.. they are at the age where they are ready to go POP!
  23. hard... yes. impossible... no. worth it... probably, maybe, sorta, dont really know. all i know is i hated the live axle in my r31.. i replaced every bush in the back end and it still just didnt feel tight.
  24. that is a kickass workshop youve got.. lots of space... panbrake, roller, bandsaw, wiring rack, hoist, lots of benches and lots of space... more pics of it please!!!! haha... what other goodies have you got in there? great sheet work too... its a lot of red though.. why you not do the engine bits in black?? spose then youd have a hard time convicing people that its NOT a gibson group A GTR.. haha. great work!
  25. sooo this friend just wouldnt happen to have an import business or anything like that in, i dunno... say.. beresfield? good on him.. he's earnt it!!
