  1. i actually liked both my skylines with the hicas in... the r33 is definatly the better setup, being an electronic controlled rack. the r32 definatly weighs a tonne... the rack weighs 6kg... the front valve weighs about the same and so does the rear valve and the extra lines, fluid, and rear pump section, hicas ecu and wiring.. easily 25kgs all up. the rear end definatly feels better without it though, and you can set the toe to where you want it and know it wont move around... especially when you consider things like bump steer at the back when our cars are lowered... its talked about at the front but not much at the back..
  2. gtst... how do you go from this... to this... and didnt you say you were no bodybuilder??? and that people giving stupid advice on here should be sued?? and how would old mate function if he just ate meat and veg and no carbs?? what if he follows your fabulous strength gaining diet and passes out during one of is heavy sets and breaks his ribs because you told him that eating meat and veg 6 times a day WILL make him strong?? i am no pro... i am a qualified PT but i dont work as one, and i am 75kg ringing wet... but i started training when i was 55kg ringing wet... its taken me 4 years and ive put on a solid 5kg of muscle each year.. this year i hope to get 80kg and next year 85kg and so on... building healthy lean muscle while maintaining low body fat and a year round 6 pack.. my weight doesnt fluctuate.. nor does my body fat..
  3. well if you have a car that is 1500kg... and it has 400hp... you divide 1500 by 400 and the result is how many kg's per hp.. so in this case.. 1500kg/400hp = 3.75kg/1hp you can do it the other way though and divide 400/1500 and the result is just opposite.. its how many hp/kg so it would be 0.26hp/kg.. it works out the same.
  4. dude.... keep the excel as a run around... and get a second car to to put in the garage... im up to my 16th car... and ive always had a shitter to do the daily drive... these days you can get a a r32 or r33 for under 10g... so the 10g your going to spend on going nowhere in the excel... you could have one... i know it seems far away... but honestly... im only 26... but my p plate days seem forever ago.. i spent so much time and money on my first car... and it got me nowhere and was pointless, and i hated it when i was done... i could have had that money for my next car.. or if you really must mod your first car... which is fine... then start with something decent.. like a honda civic.. or an ae92 corolla sx... or something in the n/a silvia range... mod the suspension/brakes and chassis while you drive it... do some track days... then when your off your p's put a nice sr20det in it.. or do an R31 and drop an rb25det in it. if you mod your excel... you will get bored and disappointed with it... you will spend money that you will never get back... you will be lucky to sell it when your ready to move on... DO NOT BUILD A CAR TO TURN HEADS!!!!!!!!!!!! build it for yourself... build something for you and you only to enjoy and appreciate... if it turns heads..it will be because you love your car and you dont care what they think... not whats done to it and what colour it is.... at the end of the day... noone really cares about anyone elses stuff.... you have what you have and they have what they have... i dont find hotted up excels.. (no matter how hotted up) to be at all worthy of a glance... let alone a head turn and thats why i dont have one, they dont interest me otherwise i would have one.. think about what it is you want to achieve.. because even if you put an evo engine in it and its 4wd and its got big shiny wheels and a big doof doof stereo and a full interior... its still going to be an excel... and the question everyone will ask is "whats the point?" you say you only earn $350 a week... that seems good to me.... with a house and bills... i am lucky to have $350 a month to spend on other things... let alone sink it into the car.
  5. what fact?? that is not a fact... that is a suggested training and diet program by you... you dont know his body type, his metabolism, his daily activities, his sleeping habits, his weekend habits, his training intensity, etc.. if i do that routine and diet... i will... get tired... get grumpy... have cravings... go down in size and also go down in weight lifted.. that is fact that i know that is for my body.. that training does not work for me.. my body cannot recover quick enough from a hard gym session in 2 days.. i used to do 5 days a week.. then i did 4, then 3, then i tried doing the same moves 3 times a week like you suggest.. combine that with the job that i used to have, being active and basically running around all day, and it was not at all working.. now ive settled on a 2 day split program and have a desk job and its working great... dont knock everyone who has given him "advice" for him to choose through and make his own decision. and then come out and say that for a fact.. he will get bigger and stronger doing that routine..
  6. yeh same... i didnt even know for ages that there was more than one car to it... when the driving is fast and spectacular... it doesnt matter what car it is... and when the wrc car resembles nothing of the road car... then it doesnt really matter what colour it is and what badge is on it.. aslong as its fast and the drivers are pushing it.. those guys have large kahuna's.
  7. i like seb... hes a funny guy.. aslong as he doesnt leave.. i will continue to enjoy and support wrc..
  8. by that do you mean a full on welded in jobby... or do you count a bolt in as a cage aswell or does a bolt in cage not count?? only ask coz im planning on using a bolt in.. the cages thing.. it confuses me.
  9. my reading of the bonnet pins was that if the car is road registered.. and has the normal bonnet latch.. it must have pins as a secondary catch... but if its unregistered.. then it only needs pins.. but thats just my interpretation of it.
  10. no need for pardon... its just a gtst... and im grateful for all positive advice... i wont be completly hacking everything up, i just had some ideas of whats unnecessary and what can be removed and replaced with lighter steel..... im not building it to be at all competitive... nor does racing in a series interest me.... it will be a fun track day thats waay over the top for my driving skills and what it needs to do... will probs see the track maybe 3 or 4 times a year ... but id really like to enter in superlap for shits and giggles so i want to keep it within the guidelines... i just like to do things different to just bolt-ins.. my old boy has been setting up cars since he was my age... he learned by reading books and trial and error... he has built one space frame and has two more planned for different cars.. so i trust his opinion.. worst case scenario... it doesnt work.. i unbolt all the goodies and start with a fresh shell, learning from what ive done.. or change everything back.. its only metal held together with spot welds and adhesive... doesnt bother me if i waste a year or two... its already been one year and its only just to the point of being stripped... its given me something to do and think about.. i need things to focus on. cheers i just like to build things.
  11. and dont forget to put your bonnet pins in.... remember that... i think it was drift nats 2005.... yeh?? that part of the day is still clear in my head..
  12. ydutry4... just try different things for a different period and find what suits you best... it may take a whole year of trying things for 3 months at a time and recording the results.. make daily notes of your diet... your moods... and how you feel... throw in something that you know will make you feel ill... and see how long it takes to have that affect... that way you know that what you ate yesterday/day before/ etc and what effect it has on your mood and general feeling.. i know that if i dont eat enough carbs and get enough sunlight... dont bother with a nutritionist... even if its a sports nutritionist.. they generally will steer you away from high protein ans supplements and just reinforce the healthy balanced diet.. you know that aleady, so dont bother paying for it. the only thing i eat from a can is baked beans and tuna.. greenseas flavoured tuna is 99c a can usually and its lean and full of protein.. tuna and wholemeal pasta, tuna and brown rice, tuna and salad, toasted tuna & cheese sandwiches and tuna and fried vegatable stirfry... that is pretty much my lunch for the week.. to change it up.. ill get salmon. ... i dont know what the chicken in a can is like, but i bet its full of preservatives and f#@k knows what parts of the chicken it is... id scrap the chicken in a can and just go the baked beans... hot or cold, they are the best. i have them everyday for a midmorning snack with 4 bits of wholemeal toast.
  13. no... thats not setting the bar high at all... mwhahaha... would be great to see the Z up there next year.
  14. Thanks brad, I'm prepared to go mental, but as per time attack rules, so the chassis rails must stay whole, no space frame extensions, unless that rule changes.. I'm mounting the engine further back (not an rb), so gearbox, pedal box and drivers seat will all be moved back, removing all sheet metal from struts forward and replacing with tube frame and c/f tubs. front suspension has been thrown in the bin, replacing with a much lighter and simpler option.. Will be making new crossmembers for engine and one for control arms and steering rack. Ditching the power steering.. V mount setup just before strut towers. I have the car fully stripped now and I can pick up one end and move it around, can't wait to make it lighter. Everything will be seam welded and spot welded now.
  15. top stuff. Bet it's good to back into training.. It's awesome howmuch easier it is to burn calories when it's not mind numbing and boring.
  16. birds is right on with this one... It's your metabolism and your body type... You are just a skinny guy. Your body will burn calories as it needs them and expel what's not required to keep because it knows you will eat again shortly so it doesn't store it away.. Think back to the cavemen days and think what job your body is made to do. You need to eats lots of lite meals to keep your energy up.. While some people can eat breakfast and be full all day.. I'm the same... I have between 6-8 meals a day.. And supplements in the winter.. I'll eat my dinner, then polish off everyone elses... It's a running joke at family dinners as I always wait till last to dish up and everything that's left is mine... Noone gets seconds if Im around. But I'm 75kg and struggle to maintain that weight... Let alone gain anymore...
  17. That's probably right.. I thought it was $800 entry though... The tyres would be the killers there... Specially if your running 265s on 18s.. 2k wouldn't even get you 2 fresh sets.
  18. Considering the problems that the evo and the 34 had, I don't think the first day counted much dialling happens on the first day, add to that the large drops in temperature over the day and the changes to track and tyre temps from midday to 4pm and only 15 min sessions, I think they would love more track time to work on things.. Specially when you are aiming for one lap... You don't have the comfort of having 40 laps to get adjusted and make ip time.
  19. Brad... Can you tell me when you get a chance where you think the excess metal is in the r32s. I would like to confirm my thoughts before hacking away.
  20. Good post baron... Thread has been a bit wayward without your input.
  21. no.... but thats a funny name... is he Dr Ron.. or Dr Laura... hahahaha... home boy got a girls name yo.
  22. yeh true... but are those people pulling out because the cars they entered are their road cars and daily drivers?? what is wrong with people?? i cant wait to get to some track days!!! im all excited just thinking about getting out there... and my cars not even hit the 50% completion mark yet... why do people pull out?? surely there couldnt be anything more fun or important to do.. important stuff is best left for nerds.
  23. eric bana made that into a movie... and he went in forwards and wasnt even on fire... so you're on a winner, prepare for lucrative deals thrown being your way...
  24. yeh but you gotta remember that those cars from japan are anywhere from 5-10 years old... so they should be well sorted machines by now.. my thoughts are that money is not everything... throwing wads of cash at a car wont make it fast... being clever with your cash is what makes it fast... like russman/roy/marlin said... for the price of a second hand holinger, you could break 20 rb20 gearboxes.. and still be just as quick.. pay $1500 or $2000 for c/f doors... or buy the materials for $500 and have a crack at it yourself?? its the little ingenious things and stolen bits from other cars that create the one ultimate car.. and power to weight ratio... and chassis balance... and wads of cash handy
