  1. hey guys.. now that ive made my decision to buy a gtr... i dont want to spend any more money on my gtst but it will still be my daily for a while.. it understeers like a pig and has lots of body roll, and the stock seats do nothing.. i had planned to give it the works... but now id rather save the money so i want to know what is the cheapest/best upgrade to reduce the understeer.. only mods so far are Cusco Coilovers with 8kg fr and 6kg rr springs and dampening set to 3 or 4 (out of 5) depending on comfort required, rear cradle bushes (alloy type) and slight toe out at rear to encourage oversteer and thats it. it has standard wheels 16x6.5, with Kuhmo 205/55/16s with a very large and weak sidewall which i think is the problem, i cant get enough pressure in the tyres to make them nice and stiff so whats my best bang for buck option?? castor rods for more castor + some camber?? lower profile, used semi slicks (215 or 205/45/16s) for less sidewall flex + more grip?? bolt on spacers to improve current wheel track?? R32 gtr wheels with current tyres meaning tighter sidewall due to 8" rim?? rear swaybar to encourage oversteer?? 17" rims?? (i have some 215/45/17s toyos at home) cheers Linton
  2. gday mate, im interested in the kuhmo 16's, would you take $100 and ill organise and pay for freight? cheers Linton
  3. woohoo, finally get to see the bakes mobile in the flesh... cant wait.. my r32 will be the one with her taillights between her driveshafts, hiding behind a tree.
  4. i used to be black flagged in my 33.. and so were some of my mates (small country town).. i got pulled over everytime the car left the garage.. got sick of it and sold it... the next guy got constantly pulled over aswell and hence why he sold it. cheers Linton
  5. i have seen this r33 gtr you speak of... almost had an accident checking it out.. 34 gtr rims suit it nicely.
  6. that is why i do not run my cars down the strip, against another car, on the track against a clock or put them on the dyno for a power reading... the only guage i use for the performance of my cars is the smile i get.. thats all that matters... times and figures mean nothing.. and when you get less than you were expecting you get disapointed... no expectations, no disapointments. cheers Linton
  7. i had 255/30 on my 9.5" rims on my 33 gtst and they were great.. stretched 235/35s for drift and it made a huge difference to the grip levels... the back end became all sorts of slippery.... for a track day... i say dont stretch the tyres.
  8. spotted nis.33r on the highway past hexham etc, this arvo... looked tidy, all black... just lose the front bar.. get a 400r or gtr bar... the standard one makes the whole car look soft.
  9. well.... yes and no... if we are all being well behaved then they should leave us alone.. but cops arent tops so they probs wouldnt.. what if we went to the bunnings carpark at kotara after hours??
  10. where are you located buster??
  11. gts4wd.... that was a good day.. shame bout the wind and the dust from the rally guys.. you were giving it a go.... good work!
  12. a good carpark is at energy australia stadium... lots of good parking there.. but if you want somewhere away from everywhere... umm... well im not sure.. bar beach is good, but at the moment it would be packed. thursday nights would be a good idea aswell.. just a meet up and a chat.. or even like a monthly meet up for dinner or something. cheers linton
  13. is this going to work in an rb20??
  14. im free just about anytime... except the long weekend.. why dont we just make it a small meet up of newy guys.. can be done anywhere anytime then.. otherwise... one of the twin servos on the freeway is probably the best meeting place for both.. and how bout skylines only... unless yours is out of action.. so not wrxs, silvias, commodores, etc, etc. cheers Linton
  15. ill be in that.. there was a club in newy... newcastle skyline enthuisasts... i still have my shirt.. not sure what happened to it... it just sought of fell apart... i think it got too "clubby and organized" rather than a bunch of mates all getting together. i think at the best meet we had a fair few cars.. around 20 or 30... i think.. it was like 5 years ago so who knows... that was pretty good for just word of mouth... no internet advertising or anything. cheers Linton
  16. while thats true... its the same with supras and lots of gtr's in japan, add one t88 and tuning and the same figures will result.. im not saying porsche are bad, or slow, and the same with the gtr, im not saying its the be all and end all... but.. imagine ive got $200000 to spend... and want a brand new car... i havent got enough for a gt2... which only just beat the gtr.. but i do have enough for an r35.. with all the trimmings.. that narrowly got beaten by the gt2 (at this time no proper tests have been done, thats just going on rumours) and i have a spare $40000 to spend on upgrades... sooo the question at hand is... is the porsche that much better than the gtr that its worth the extra coin?? that is the point i was trying make my other point about company ceo's comes from the fact that you'd have to be one to own a brand new gt2 or 911 turbo.. and it seems to be the choice for day to day driving to work.. that or a mercedes. it goes with the ratbag 20 something year olds that drive hotted up skylines... just a common occurence. lets keep this thread informative and polite... or it'll get shut. everyones entitled to their opinion and it is an internet forum after all. cheers Linton
  17. so with all these tracks being owned by car clubs.... does that mean if everyone on sau made donations... we too could own a track?? does that mean all the ramblings of the other thread "nsw's best kept secret" may be actually come true if it wasnt for the negative nancy's that say it cant be done?? great to hear about a track finally near newcastle..
  18. there was an article in zoom when the r34 gtr was released with all 3 gtr's... you can see side by side how much more stable the r33 is over the r32 around a witches hat.. and the r34 is better again.. and also, although the 33 gtr is heavier... the tyres are wider and have less profile.. the lighter r32 on its skinnier 16" tyres would be a bit more skittery around the corners where the r33 would have stuck a bit more.. aswell as the 33 being wider and having more wheel track and a better roll centre also the r33 rb26 and attessa had improvements over the r32 even though power limits were both claimed at 206kw, but the 33 had a smoother torque curve and just enough to make for the extra weight. anyways... back to the topic.. the r35 like all gtr's will be a modifiers car... the porsche will remain to be driven by company ceo's who just want to drive around.. how much more can you seriously do to a 911 turbo?? especially after forking out serious dosh to get one in the first place?? what would happen if you spent that on the r35?? cheers Linton
  19. dammit.... why is it always drag! that may reveal the fastest street car in a straight line... but how bout round corners?? that would be a true test to reveal who's is the best overall street car.. not traffic light warrior.
  20. check timing aswell bro.
  21. the japs do... and the enthusiasts do... you can sit back knowing that noone knows just what you've got.. id love an old dr30 or a 31 coupe, those things are massive in japan with a huge following.. but my 32 is a comfortable daily driver that has no garage at the moment.. its my thrasher i guess you could say.. and parts are cheap and plentiful.
  22. ahh i see... thought they looked familiar. yeh they are a factory option on acv and mcv36 camrys... so they would only be 7" wide at most.. no good sorry. cheers Linton
