as a mechanic that used to work for toyota.. i got to drive alot of prados, hiluxs and klugers, and ravs.... and they are woeful... they are really shit on the road... compared to say... an aurion or camry... and the rear vision.. heck, all vision is near on non existent.. driving on the hoist or around other cars in the workshop was always a mission, and the turning circles are crap... not to mention running costs.. tyres, 5 oils to change, thirsty buggers, and the noise that you have to put up with... and as for safety?? well sure they may be bigger and heavier... but what about the poor person they run into?? and heres another thing, these bullbars and towbars... how many are adr approved and how many say in really small writing "off road use only"?? they are just as defectable as our bovs and pods that say "race use only".. thats why a genuine toyota bullbar is $2000 and a knock off one is $1000.. the genuine one works with the crumple zones and airbags.. non genuine does not. and if you get a steel one... well... i shudder at the thought. the road belongs to everyone and everyone should drive to the conditions.. at the end of the day, cars dont kill people, people kill people. anyways, back to the pic.. thats incredible... normally the r33 gtr has the presence of dolph lundgren.. there it looks more like rocky. go rocky!! cheers Linton

What Happens If You Run A Z32 Afm On An Rb20 With No Tuning
NZM.031 replied to NZM.031's topic in General Maintenance
thanks, thats all i needed to know. ill leave the z32 idea alone.. i know i can get another afm for anywhere from $50 to $220... but noone can guarantee the condition.. it may be just as faulty as mine. the only way to take the afm out of the question is to get a brand new one. -
My Restoration

youve done an incredible job so far mate.. glad to see you still motivated and not bodging things to get it done. also its good to see that your keeping it original and classy.. no candy apple reds on 20's and slammed and trailered to shows. ive always wanted to do a ground up, especially a gtr, but id hate to get halfway through it and have something happen or run out of cash.. so i stay away.. probs could have had it done by now if id started in my apprenticeship, god knows ive spent 3 times what i would have on buying and modding running cars anyway. keep it up. what you should do is try searching... or even looking at the stickied threads... especially the one thats titled "missfire boost @4500-5500rpm" its 2 threads up from this one

What Happens If You Run A Z32 Afm On An Rb20 With No Tuning
NZM.031 replied to NZM.031's topic in General Maintenance
ive already pulled it apart and checked, cleaned, and re soldered the connections.. if thats what you mean by you fixing it. im not sure if it is definatly the afm.. could be shite in the tank/lines that is stopping full flow for a sec... could be afm.. so i really wanna knock it out and write the afm off.. so even if its consistently running rough becuase it has a z32 afm atleast i know the cause and its consistent. if it it still does what it does... then i know its not the afm. paul, if you can assure me that your "fixing" will make it as good as new, then i will consider it, i can have it there today but i'd need it back asap.. cheers Linton -
hey guys.. so my afm is shitting itself.. have 2 options, get a new bosch z32 one for $300 + the cable or a new one for the rb20 for $1000 (unless someone knows of one cheaper) thats a genuine nissan one. i dont want to get a second hand one as it may just as shite as mine, i want to elimnate the afm as the problem. just wondering if you can run a z32 afm on the standard ecu for a bit, until i get a safc atleast, without detrimental problems, doesnt need to make killer power, just needs to run and eliminate the afm as the problem. stupid question im sure, but anywho. cheers Linton

spotted white R33 gtr with a green p plate cruising down hunter st and turned up past dominos.. very tidy and sounds fantastic. i want to go on the cruise but the 32 is just not up to the point where im comfortable with a) long drives where theres minimal mobile reception and tow truck access.. and b) its not quite up to scratch for me to want to let people see it.. hahaha, its not that i care what you all think.. but its not even lowered yet. maybe next year though cheers Linton -
yep thats the proper way to do it.. and make sure your car is warm. different ways give different readings.. easier to do it the way nissan intended.

thanks, thats what i thought.. just getting another opinion. ive blown a turbo on the dyno when the hose to the boost controller blew off... dunno if this was the cause or it was the dyno, but just to be sure.. im a bit wary of upping the boost.
-
hey guys im pondering what is next for the 32.. and thought a bit more boost would be nice.. seems to be running 7psi and from my searching that 12psi is goodly.. so i dig around and find an old boost controller, only to come across something ive never seen before.. the hose goes from the turbo to wastegate.. no factory boost controller. all the turbo'd cars ive worked on, have all had some form of factory boost control that you just replace with your own adj boost controller. so where does the bloody thing go?? how does it work?? and do i need to muck around with the actuator or replace it with another one or what?? it was my thinking that the boost controller reduces the amount of air that flows to actuate the wastgate, hence it not opening as much, but i also remember an easy boost fix on the rb26 is to take out the restrictor in the line for 1bar straight away.. ive had a big day and found a p/s leak so my heads not exactly with it at the moment and the answer is probably staring at me. cheers Linton

i too am always seeing other liners in newi.. whats the deal these days?? do we flash?? wave?? nod?? hazard?? i dont want to seem snobby, so i always give a wave or a nod, but im not gonna put a wave out there and have someone leave it hanging because it is "beneath them". and if you all see a grey stock 32 gtst with gtr type front bar with a bit of drift damage... thats me. AUR something plates. cheers Linton -
ive seen motokhana courses in a carpark that are in better nick than their test track. and the old drift corner at oran park would even be enough to keep a mercedes black on its toes. if i had $150000 i definatly would not even consider a holden.. i will give them the fact that the cars are much much better in that sort of price range from holden than a normal SS.. but still.. there are much nicer cars out there.

Item: Ben Sherman suit dark grey w/ subtle grey pin stripes Age: 2 years Condition: like brand new Price: $350 ono ($700rrp) Location: newcastle, nsw (will post) Contact: Linton 0431 646 160 or [email protected] Comments: this suit is like brand new... i wore it once to a wedding and havent worn it since. i bought it brand new at david jones in 2006, back then i was a little smaller than i am now and the jacket is a bit tight around my back and shoulders. at the wedding, it didnt get wet, smoked near, drunkin in, or get food spilt on it. since then it has been hung in its original carrier bag and hung in my parents new house, no dampness or mustyness. i havent got any pics at the moment as im at work but i will get some later on. the inner lining is mad purple/blue silk or satin, with a cool print. it feels great on, and its nice and light, and classic.. so it wont date. as for the size, im 6'1'' with long legs and the pants are a little too short for my liking but someone a bit shorter will have no issues, and the jacket fit perfectly. my arms are about 50cm from armpit to wrist. the only reason im selling it is my back has grown since wearing it and id rather someone else to enjoy it then me try and wear it and rip it when hugging someone. cheers Linton
-
hey peoples, im after a standardish front bar for my 32 gtst... it has a cheap crappy gtr copy on it that is a bit smashed up and doesnt fit with the front mount. just wondering if anyone around the newi area has one laying out the back that you wanna get rid of. dont really wanna have to muck around with postage etc. also would be great if its gunmetal grey, so i dont have to muck around with paint. also after some rear spats.. cheers Linton
-
i still cant stand it.. australia just doesnt get enough good cars.. and we dont have good enough roads.. and honestly, what is with the test track?? surely someone will let them on a proper race track like oran park or something.. and another thing... did anybody actually see what the mercedes looked like?? all i saw were artsy camera angles and contrast changes... my eyes were hurting trying to focus and catch a glimpse of whether it was a 2 door or 4 door.. was good to see them rubbish the stupid bmw "thing" though. that was about all i saw, heck, it makes idol almost worth watching.. atleast i know the judges on it and they have their own characters.

what you gotta do maaate, is just take the heat rating down on your car... you know, like just respray it, different rims, different vinyls, different bodykit... just like nfsu carbon aye cuz.. i did that on my hectic lambo after i busted up 20 cop cars and did $50000 worth of damage to the state.. got me around a bit longer. haha. -
i did this in my 33.... it sounded unreal... scared shitloads of people and just plum sounded tuff.... but it made the thing soooo hard to drive... alright when on the limit... but just cruising, gear changes were made soo much harsher and the shock to the driveline was quite violent when releasing the throttle. it didnt take long for the turbo to shit itself either. afms dont like it much either. and it was only a weekend car... not a daily. not a good idea... a good plumb back and metal tubing will make a nice enough sound. if you do though, it sounds better if you get a hard pipe to the turbo, it will sound better than the rubber one. cheers Linton

Appreticeship In High Performance Workshop -syd Area Wanted
NZM.031 replied to michadoo's topic in New South Wales
i think it would be awesome to have a female at work... im not much of a blokey bloke and smoko discussions of football and pies and how many scooners they can drink isnt my thing, and it would snap the boys up to speed... they wouldnt be too fond of a chick who can whoop their rears at their manly job. haha. im with cuppas.. find a dodgy w/shop that is a fun place to work with good guys, and minimal management.... then get in with a small performance w/shop and get them to do some stuff to your car, be a regular, show your interest and they will get to know you, as long as your not a pest... then you will get a good customer/business relationship and before you know it, you'll be in there on weekends and stuff, then a job will come up i did this and brought my tools along and took a day off work to get my clutch done and helped them out, and while the car was there i did some other things to it... maybe not the best for oh&s but thats why you go to a little workshop. i just missed out for the job because paul needed a tradesman and i was still 3rd yr, but we still get on good and who knows... i may be there yet. the best thing is to get into spare parts.... you make great phone friends with aftermarket suppliers that are a great help. you get good prices on things and you sit down all day and actually feel like working on your own car after work... when its quiet, you get to look at ebay and the like, or read the skyline forums.. you can eat all day, and come 5.00pm... you get up and walk out. you can learn just as much off the parts books as you can from the service books. good luck! -
yeh i got an RB30 one and it fit straight up... absolutley no dramas. cost me $80 for an aftermarket one.. wanted to go genuine but nissan didnt even have one. will be getting a better pump when i have some more cash and more time. NOTE: ALWAYS REPLACE YOUR WATER PUMP WHEN YOU DO YOUR TIMING BELT!! I BOUGHT MY CAR WITH THE BELT DONE, BUT THE WATER PUMP NOT TOUCHED, AFTER 4000KMS THE WATER PUMP SHAFT SHAT ITSELF AND SNAPPED AND THREW THE FAN INTO THE RADIATOR, COSTING 2 DAYS WITHOUT A CAR, A SATURDAY PULLING IT ALL DOWN AND $300 THAT COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER SPENT. THIS WILL STOP YOUR CAR WHERE EVER YOU ARE... PUTTY ROAD... M7... F3... COULD BE JUST IN THAT SPOT WHERE YOU GET NO MOBILE RECEPTION.. cheers Linton

good luck to you... as a mechanic who finished their trade a few years ago.. i wish you all the best in sticking with the trade after you finish... whether you stay at a dealership or go to a performance place. i tried to get into the performance industry... the only problem is, although the customers dont need their car done by 3 to pick the kids up... they are spending lots and lots of $$$ to get the best out of their car.. with most being pushed to the limit.. if you make a simple apprentice mistake (which everyone does), there is very little coverage, no warranty, due to that i found that performance workshops wouldnt take an apprentice. by the 4th year... most mechanics have had enough of the long hours, busted knuckles, constantly buying tools, dodgy food breaks, coming home sore and reeking of gear oil all for shit pay, ungrateful service managers and customers. its also handy to remember that a job is a job, it pays the bills, and for your lifestyle... and you have good days where you love it and bad days where you hate it. its fun to do stuff to your own your own car, on weekends, but not when you do it through the week, all day everyday. all the best, Linton -
Some Guy Wrote Down My Number Plate Today! What The Hell!

me and a mate got dobbed in by an off duty police officer years ago, after a commodore in front of us bagged it up and fishtailed up the road... we just drove through the smoke behind him... cops came around to my house and lectured us... my olds got up em.. we just denied everything.. but they put our numberplates on a list of cars to get.. and everytime we went anywhere we would get pulled up and the cars were always getting looked at.. it got to the point where the cops were picking out new things that we'd done since last time. ended up selling the car being fed up with not being able to enjoy it. if your account of the events is true... you shouldnt have too much to worry about. sounds like it might just be a grumpy old man dobbing in a "hoon", maybe he does it every day and cops are sick of him.. maybe not just take it easy, and wait a month. you'll soon learn (being a p plater) that its best to drive to the rules when ANYBODY can possibly see you, leave the fun stuff for when noone is around and you cant damage anything but you or your car. -
hey all after the worst day ever yesterday... well not really the worst, but it was pretty shit... i need a new water pump asap!! ive searched through the forums only to find a "this person said this will fit" or "this will fit but this is different" etc. im running low on cash, so i dont want to find out tomorrow that the one i got doesnt fit and have to get another one.. i also need the car asap. i want to know, from someone who has done it.. what water pump you used... where you got it from.. what the part number is.. and maybe how much. noone has a listing for an rb20.. theres someone selling some R33 gtr rims in the for sale thread for $900ish with rubber. may have to go through a few pages to find them
