  1. Currently working on increasing the effectiveness of the cooling system while simultaneously improving aero. Previously with oem everything up the front it was hard to package everything and get it working efficiently but we did a pretty good job. Discussions where had and the move has been made to stack the intercooler/ oil cooler and rad together, completely seal it and vent it out the bonnet. We stopped short of a full tubeframe front .. well just because... but everything got moved forward and tilted forward The intercooler has been flipped back to traditional position, this has increased the cooler piping length but quite a bit but considering how this thing it tuned and manages boost, response will not be affected Previously had a 25 row oil cooler and carbon shroud with 4" ducting going from the front bumper directed into the wheel well. This actually cooled very well but considering I was doing all this, I want to to the wick up a bit more and aero wise it wasnt super effective having hot air going on the tyre, brakes and into a high pressure wheel well there is now a 50 row Setrab sitting sealed inbetween the intercooler and radiator. The venting will obviously go out the bonnet reducing under bonnet high pressure area and taking away unwanted air going under the car. The tyre warmer turbo/ front tub cutout has now been sealed off which we previous didnt get to Keep on ticking away this bit is nearly finished will now pull it apart and make it a little bit more pretty also though the raw chromoly and ally go ok i think too
  2. Think that part of the discussion developed from my hub bearing issues not in relation to subframe situation Double A arm and associated upright wld solve alot of issues but... yeahhhhh
  3. I just remembered ! https://kiwicnc.com/en-au/products/nissan-r32-33-34-gtr-motorsport-uprights little bit out on pricing though - rounding error I sound like a performance workshop now 😆🤐
  4. WA Time attack was cancelled this year there was to other major motorsport events on the same day / weekend and I think they just called it early to not make a big loss if no one turned up even though I think they wouldve still had an 80% + field ... alas no chance at lowering my PB at Barbagallo again yet (im not saying carco.com.au Raceway.. im just not ready for that ) Our State sprint series had their final round down in collie a track circa 2 - 2.5 hrs down from Perth. Great track techical, curb hop friendly and a little bumpy - all things not suited to my car haha Ive barely been down there but this is where I blew my engine last year and not had good time on a few other occasions I took the time to go down a day early and got to do a few prac laps and find a groove ish - its was already hot 35 deg - not great First noted - car really only liked doing 1.5 laps - by then the tyres were gone and it was starting to be o the edge of being hot but OK Comp day - did 2 prac laps did a 71.X which is pretty solid using lowest power but driving pretty hard felt alright The temp on the day was already rising and was going to be a hot on ended up hitting 41 deg ! So first timed run out the gate , only morning run lower temps might go OK , put a little boost into it all was going good but came out of a 2nd gear chicane at end of a straight planted it thought traction control and I as the steerer had it but dropped a wheel in the dirt spun around sat in sand / gravel till go pulled out Didnt get another run till after lunch by that time its was 35 deg again - ran lowest power drove hard but nothing really worked how it should brakes, tyres etc but solid result with a 72. X From there just packed it up unfortunately, just too hot and running wouldnt go any faster and no reason Ultimately very tough day - really should get this thing down into the low 70's at least but I think be tough to get much more out of it on this type track for me Came way with 1st tin top and 2nd overall to a killer radical the changes with the suspension re: sways and from others tweeks worked well for what I could feel on a lower speed track so happy with the way that progressed thats me for a big year even though I didnt compete that much it was a very full year The next changes and updates start Friday Hopefully some more adventures, PB's and no doubt hair loss due to stress in FY '24
  5. yeah thats getting fairly ridiculous for mine and most peoples budget also. 100% appreciate it might actually cost that much to make + + on top and all that but for the amount it 'cures' in terrms of some lighter, pad knock and some bearing issue it doesn't add up for me there is place in NZ doing billet knuckles the same that got mentioned a few weeks ago to me as being pretty decent had a look once was in the $4k's i think.. but now I cant think of them na I spoken to that guy i dont trust him at ALL 😅 jokes everyone its alright ... yes agree Ive got half his stuff etc in my car and goes alright He does have a solution but not currently in my budget
  6. no photos of damage atm - - Ive jus bought a new subframe each time - one is sitting in back of my garage somewhere one is still in the car abut to get taken out had a look everywhere else - no mounting point issues Just from WTAC new ikea formula tie rod ends both side have massive play, the J arm coupling to hub is busted on the driver side and one rear lca rose joint has too much play in it combination or braking and aero I suspect glad Ive been talking about adding braking and we are adding more aero now too 🙄
  7. Castor boxes are fine - they are well braced but yes prob need to relook and add agree on accessing the actual cause we are 90% its the horizontal load but good thgts on the twisitng initially much bracing will have to be added - have an event in 10 days odd so do that the GTR subframe is totally different and although Brads red rocket wasnt allowed to use ABS he is as hard as anyone on the brakes and still did bend a frame like this alas - there is no 'off the shelf' chromoly frame to purchase so may get to the point of custom - get a 3D scan and made I do not know why Nissan engineers did think of all this stuff over 30 years ago - its ridiculous really 😅 I used to wonder why you didnt see cars similar to this or more out at more events - Im getting to know why - its tough just keeping them together Ie: Even with chromoly front spindles in the hubs to reduce deflection under load wheel bears are are consumable ever 3 or 4 outings now
  8. brake harder they said... get abs they said...itll be fun they said In the space of about 60 laps since putting the bosch abs in and getting proper use ive managed to bust 2 x front subframes They are bending backwards and cracked at the end where the lca mounts and also destroying the mounting holes This is obviously coming from the additional braking force and is a frustrating problem to have and a solution needs to be found asap
  9. not at the price id be selling it haha - wouldnt be that much more that the a piece delivered to you from Freddy... topstage its great stuff ! 😃 and I have 90% of the wooden box my syd comp stuff came over in Id do an s13 or s15 - clean and good no aero, light, good suspension and brakes - for a 'do all events car' 500hp tops it would go well - front winglets need attention not hard. personally Id chop them down and bring in end plates to match the topstage rear wing + as above
  10. very nice! reminds me of V1 of my car - clean slate - quality build with knowledge incoming sorta makes me want to build something again new and clean - but that thought also gives me shutters down my spine I still have my old aero - postage / transport might be the killer though
  11. apparently fitment issues fixed in latest models am yet to see or hear though It'll work - especially coz you not running big power I assume given rally ? just keep an eye on EMAP - they are a nice bit of gear just for that $ you want things to be 100% and also better than the competition I got 'redirected' to tried and proven 6 boob but aiming for bigger power end
  12. 🙄 seems to be a thing Runners smaller that engine ports Eject..
  13. Because build thread 👀 #content First step in addressing some mechanical and aero understeer issues Some strakes for tunnels under car Moving to using a 24mm thiccc boi whiteline rear sway. There was way too much rear roll mid and exit cnr as it was way soft and we just didnt get a chance to tune suspension with new aero additions etc so had to put up with it. Increasing spring rate to compensate will critically effect drive so a no at this point. Staying with standard front sway
  14. All I heard from both of you was put my old aero on the M3 and run clubsprint Has tune n pipes bout 500hp for my wife and only does 4km a day school trips basically haha i dont know how much they are anymore but I ran a ppg in 5 speed box in my skyline and held decent in sprints for 2 seasons at 600hp
  15. would swap but already have skyline and in W.A 😅
  16. Shows how much better that are when you let them breathe. Good results
  17. it is bosch motorsport ABS yes so very tunable the front shows we have a little bit of margin in psi before it becomes 'over' psi but not alot the rears cant even get close - but they being used to their max with a twin piston smaller rotor setup doing rears and getting some more rear into it will be first step but yes the tyre is the limit and this is now saved, tuned to its max by abs in reality apart from all the technical stuff a real factor is I prob dont have big enough ballz or ability to push breaking much further 😅 trying to stop a 1200kg car from 265kmph + to 90kmph down a hill from the 75 mtr mark (in W.A - barbagallo ) on a semi starts to get out of my pay grade I think the biggest stop at SMSP is similar in T2 240kmph down to 75kmph from about the 75m mark the excuse book isnt out as the the brakes can do the job but its a - just - type situation
  18. nice ive come this far now on a semi - i think a slick atm is too soon - can still maximise the 050 yet and obviously stay in open class but maybe a slick if I keep doing this for a while and see where I can get too especially in w.a dont need heeeeappps of brake but would like a bit more for 'safer' braking which i'll then push more anyway ha. The rear is just under for the load im giving it and the rear is a rotor and caliper size issue although these old nissans are 70 / 30 f to r anyway I feel the front is doing way too much - the abs is getting a workout . moving the front to a 380mm rotor on front vs 365mm might be margin especially given the potential additional weight etc - the caliper and pad on the front are good
  19. ^^ thanks and agree Im about as honest as it gets about all this here are some comments on a few things for what they are worth, some my see this as a big lump of text, some may take something out of it. Either way I'll write some thing just because: - Never in a million years did I think Id have a car to this level let alone spend that amount of time effort and $ for one event, but I have and did. Im just a normal guy - not even really a car kinda guy but obviously decided this will be my 'thing' for a while - The unfortunate thing is the $ I spend just to get to compete in WTAC is what some already there or closer can either not spend or get to spend the same amount but actually on racing like tyres and track time - as Ive been told - thats the way it is suck it up or dont turn up - and thats the right attitude coz its true - Competing at WTAC was for alot of reasons - to see where I sat actually doing it not thinking about it watching the live stream, challenging myself as a whole including getting there, organising the whole thing and everything else that goes into it as well as competing itself. I can say Ive done it, not as an ego or promo thing but to have an experience and be able to tell some good stories when Im old and cant do sh*t - One thing that I didnt realise that would come is the enjoyment of others being there and involved that wouldnt otherwise be there or a chance to be that involved at this level - for the first time in a long time Ive come away from an event and all it entailed pretty content overall, the effort, the result* (even though it wasnt as good as goodve been) and direction to go - this is big for me because I always have come away from others just wanting more. Whether this is because it was my first time or what I dont know - I think what the above is saying is, I still want more ie: go faster, but think I now know my limits on many things but also new challenges and also, if I want, have a new direction to go / race in That being said: I think the car as it stands is good enough to be generally competitive at a high level. With a few minor tweeks to setup, and some seat time it should be quicker I have been given a list of tweeks, changes, adjustments and some mods to do should I wish to advance the car a little further. I reality these are largely just adjustments, changes or additions to what I already have and it becomes my choice to do them or not Once we started to do some proper laps we experienced some good amount of understeer - this is both a suspension and aero thing. this will be addressed. We are maxing the injectors out. Even on the top boost run on dyno we are limiting the power. But that power is enough anyway. we havent run max power on track yet. But bigger injectors will be needed to run the car 'safer' Brakes - the brakes did their job and did stop - but they are running at 100% as well with no real room for extra push so prob need to look at at least upgrading the rears from the little R34 gtr setup and maybe some tweeks to the front. All pending. I dont run a pedal box rather a replacement servo situation with std peals stil, so a povo pedal box, it does the job but isnt optimal. the $ has always gone somewhere else. Dont know if this will be address or not yet We will run W.A Time attack here at the end of Nov. with very few tweeks compared to what it ran at WTAC. It is not about winning that anymore its about using it as a focus event to do the best PB time I can get Will have a bit of a rest - decide what of the list we will attack At this stage Id like to do WTAC again - if so it will be a case of trying to do things a little different and smarter 2nd time around - like not driving for 4 days straight and then expecting to do well at a top event on a track youve never driven before 🤪 Will try get the car and myself over earlier for some practice etc But then again - while allocating it differently - it still comes down to time, effort and $ Really general stuff: A pro driver - whether they are thrown into a car or the get to prac in the car previously seems to be about 1 to 3 secs better than a 'normal' person Slicks proved to be at least 2 secs faster in lap times over the 050's prob a bit more
  20. 2 piece is way to go - some mechanical sympathy and mine was lighter even with massive uni ball etc as materials used can be thinner
  21. thats hard to answer - but a blanket answer is: on a base level the answer is no - no one just with a bunch of mates having a crack are doing that well without adding layers of support etc on top but.... also nearly every team even through to the top has an underlying bunch of mates helping run it no matter what the level was - and thats the bit I liked thats the thing - look at open class this year - the 18 or 20 cars in that are all off chops even the clubsprint cars these days are just wild
  22. im not going to go into peoples budgets - not my place but put it this way my guys,/ crew have been around racing for a fair while and it blew some of their minds even at what I did then the next step up and that wasnt even the top teams what Rob said as a minimum I think and then upwards from there and if your not prepared to break stuff or spend extra while there then I think youre being unrealistic unless you are happy just to cut laps what I have gathered recently / rapidly (including myself up until about 18 mths ago) most people honestly just dont know what it takes to give it a go $ wise and application wise let alone do half OK and are very desensitised to the fact these are just not normal cars/ times/ budgets and its not just about buying this part and that and a shiney splitter and video's / incar footage makes it look way easier than it actually is 😅
  23. even with the rb25 and 3" side pipe and gate into the ground this car had a good raspy note but going the billet engine and increasing to 3.5" and little bigger gate pipe its changed it again... maybe its the head and the extra revs sessions are 15 mins but they flag you for a cool down after 12 mins. spose if your car could take it you could get 5 hotlaps but if you going to WTAC to do 5 hot laps a session and looking for a good $ to lap ratio I think your prob in the wrong place the $$ spend and how each person / team does it is interesting to see
  24. Thanks mate thats awesome appreciate it. Had a few people say car sounded good and bit different to most others.. i never get to hear it from the outside ha Thanks! 100% definitely agree... will do w.a time attack take a breathe decide if im going to go again and make a plan with exactly that. No point going otherwise, seat time on that track is much needed to be faster and more consistent 👌
  25. 😆 nope punked out and flew home last night , mate driving it back... but yes feel pretty junk right now still ha but yes I can do that.. 3.5 day drive over was long, not that hard as such just alot of hours but just wears you down - which started to have an effect on you later Event itself. Summarised Prac day: Session 1 - 3 yr med's no power - found out which way track went did 1.37 Notables - Im not used to using 2nd gear and very slow hairpins, track is very bumpy alot of the times mid corner Session 2 - same as session 1 - got more used to it 1.36 notables - was trying to use 3rd in hairpins which wasnt workng - overcooked 6 but slowly getting the track Session 3 - put old very worn softs on - still no power - 1.34's - sort felt good two laps a session - total 6 laps going in right direction Day 1 - Session 1 - morning session - told I wasnt ready as driver but new tyres bit of boost and might just lay down a time Felt good - little messy but not bad, got blocked on 9 was down 22kmph and cost about .6 sec then through 10 and 11 was getting traction control cuts. Mid 1.34 - shouldve been a low 1.33 at least Found out front wheel was lifting causing undriven wheel to slow so traction control would cut - fixed Session 2 - total junk thought someone had done something to my car - track was so off it was like driving a drift car and the car ate a water pump belt - fixed - horrible Session 3 - not too bad cleaner but not faster - started to forget to push the throttle down and reverted back to old habits not new way to drive the car I was just purely worn out at this point 😅 Day 2 Session 1 - was actually ready for semi full send with confidence - coming onto front straight for first flyer the ecu cut power - did 2 x laps with no power - good laps but not fast - hit an injector limit that didnt reset - hence no power - and got blocked - waisted results wise but I spose it was laps Session 2 - track hot but some cloud cover - little slippery but actually got the drive the nuts off the car with no probs and get a semi decent lap in then the car ate a water pump belt but better Session 3 - last go - drive it pretty well on medium power was clean enough - for some reason got a cut coming onto front straight cost 0.37 and a 1.32 but did a 1.332 backed that with a 133.4 messing up t2 and 2 x power cuts *** Chunky gains other than just track time Front straight top speed is there and more in it if wind up powas - time there T1 speed needs to be higher but is not horrible - time there T2 - T8 hairpins started to get better - time there T9 stay out wider T11 - kept messing up the line and understeering - time there *** I did a total of 18 hot laps - over the 3 days I just need to drive the track more 1) for me as a driver 2) to actually start tuning things like suspension, aero, power trims and similar which we barely got to touch other than the above few what I call little issues the car ran really solidly - we are in the ballpark even with the time we did car is very much quicker - the sectors and data shows are good even with what we covered over the 9 sessions which is not us at anything above 80% really combo capability is pretty spot on to where we thought it would be which is nice to actually see it not just guess few adjustments - poss some upgrades and some track time and if its not at least 2 ++ secs quicker there is something quite wrong Overall event was good as a driver and to be honest the other aspects of it were better than I expected also - so objectively while id like it to have all come together a bit better and produce a better time overall a win in reality for first hit out at WTAC and SMP Actually met Rob ... and a heap of others which was good anything else just ask
