I very much doubt thats an actual Texaco Sierra. If it was there'd be no room for the boys to sit in the back amongst the rollcage bars, dry sump reservoirs etc etc.

I believe its 92db, end of story. Doesnt matter what car you bring along, has to meet 92db limit or you go home -

Autofiction made the same comment, coincidence? Just because you get on well with someone doesnt mean you don't feel the pinch of being consistantly slower you know. In fact it would be even more a point that the team-mates have a certain amount of extra competitiveness. Morris is a complete tool. I never really liked him before, now I openly loath him. What an ass, comments like that in the upper echelon of Australian motorsport. His sponsors should take a very close look at the kind of attention he is generating and the way it'll reflect poorly upon their products. I'd like to see how many cars he can build when his sponsors decide he isnt the sort of person they want advertising their products worldwide. -

It's not environmentally friendly to pollute the lake with a bag of shit. Maybe there's a sewerage treatmant plant nearby thats more appropriate to the task -
Importing Track Car
Stupid Toyota replied to Fadie's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
True enough, but it "can" be done if you're keen enough. No mistakes were made, however the time was taken to explain carefully and politely. Dealing with DOTARS is like dealing with the police. You give them attitude, you're screwed. Treat them politely, explain yourself carefully and validate your reasoning and they'll treat you the same. But, don't EXPECT it to work. Sometimes people have a bad day at work and no amount of politeness can convince them you're worthy Naturally J-Spec can't offer advice that isn't in the rules which is also why I haven't offered any more info then the fact that it has been achieved legally, through DOTARS without a L3 CAMS licence. -
Importing Track Car
Stupid Toyota replied to Fadie's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
Not to throw a spanner in the works, but I have first hand knowledge of a car that recieved import approval for race use with NO CAMS licence at all. Car is now in Australia and under-going upgrades to run in AASA sanctioned events at QR and later at Lakeside. -

She's right mate, I'll plumb the exhaust into the cabin. Should quiet it down AND keep me feeling calm and relaxed... I got quite a few comments at QR about how quiet my car was, but that was probably relative to other cars out there. -

Mate its no joke. I have a BA falcon ute and the number of girls in jap cars that I pass on the round-a-bouts makes me glad I chose an aussie muscle icon. That 4ltr straight six hodge-podge tractor engine sure can boogie when its aroused and the leaf spring rear with live axle open centre tracks straight and true every time... Ok, I'll admit I got it because I reckoned it'd be a great tugger, I mean puller, I mean TOWCAR... (Just like the people on Ford forums.) Kind of makes you wonder what "Jap/Euro Sporties" he drove to be less impressed with then a falcon. -

I would suggest noise measurement would be from the outside of the track, which is where the houses are. That would make it left side of the car. However as you know pits is on the right side so maybe they stand there? HRD-HR30 would know more having been there. -
Is there anywhere in australia that makes them? Or just US shops? I'd like one, but I doubt they're off the shelf items for my car.

Thats the guy He's working on a GTR for sure, but it's not going to be AWD apparently The car he has currently is an MZ20 Soarer with 7MGTE 3ltr turbo. I "think" he has a couple of CF parts on it, with a race weight of around 1250kg plus driver.

We're off topic, but I think you've mis-read my meaning. I was saying why have a car and not take every opportunity to drive it? Battling for corner after corner is good, but so is sheer outright screaming speed at a corner. You're greatest challenger is usually yourself Beating your own best time is always satisfying as much as is beating someone else

Well the information came from a Victorian member who was involved with the building of an R32 GTR but I believe its being fitted out with RWD format only in anticipation of the rule alterations. He currently runs a sexy ass Toyota as a Sports Sedan and is involved with the rulings down there I believe. In my opinion, why not race the car in Sports Sedans if the opportunity arises? OK, you won't win but at least you get to drive the car for fun. My lap times were a couple of seconds off the leading pace of our state SS contenders at QR but it was fun driving around them on the straights and making them frown lol My car was heavier, had smaller brakes and waaay smaller tyres so I couldn't hope to take it up to them if they were running well but it was fun when they weren't and I made them pay. I don't understand it when people say they aren't going to race because they won't win. I mean, there's always someone faster, or bigger or cooler. The fun is in the doing when it boils down to it, yes?

If I remember correctly, the older cars could add things like diffusers under the body but if they did they had to make additional changes to intrusion aspects etc on the cars which were hefty weight-wise. There was some sort of trade-off involved to penalise them. Updated safety requirements etc for the older cars. If they left them alone they could continue to run them as they were but the result was new cars could run the extra aero and therefore potentially run faster. The Sports Sedan category is a pretty poorly attended field nation-wide which is sad. You think people would leap at the choice to run an all out balls to the wall car with almost no restrictions. I believe there may also be a problem soon with 4WD sports sedans too. Noise is coming from the 2WD V8 Brigade about them so there may be an alteration to the regs regarding them before long. Best to check any 4WD regulations before you start otherwise you might strike a problem when it comes to logbook time.
-
I believe they were opening up the rules a little regarding aero options for new cars, and the full body cars to encourage people to build something new rather then continue with older cars. Problem with flat floors etc is heat dispersion from the engine bay, and heat buildup in transmissions and differentials. Lots and lots of thought would need to be put into your cars underneath before you start laying any panels up under there. I ran mine for around 6 meetings or so then remembered to check gbox oil and she was black by then. No road use at all, just track use for a few hundred competitive kilometres. Take some or all of the airflow away and she'll be in trouble real fast. Then you'll need to start with oil pumps, oil coolers etc just to keep it alive for one meeting

I presume you're keeping the rear seats useable right? Cusco Japan make cages that will allow that, but not CAMS approved Whats the end use of the car going to be?

2008 V8 Supercar Season

Well everybody does it, nobody's a saint. My opinion on Craigs driving, which I don't disagree at points was a tad excessive... Team mate! Last year he had an older car and maybe he could use that as an excuse for not being able to show up Jamie who is really the B driver at 888 Racing. First raceof the season Jamie sets pole, lap record, race wins etc. I think maybe there was a little bit of pride on the line for him cause he had the same car package this time yet he was still off the pace slightly. Actually in our racing even though there's been some beaut bingles there's never been a fist thrown that Im aware of. A few words exchanged here and there but thats about all (most were all directed at the same driver over different incidents lol). Motor Racing is a sport, with no connection to boxing. Professional conduct and maturity is a requirement not an option in my opinion and wandering over to punch someone over a bit of panel damage is not on. -

Since when did motor racing attract soccer hooligans? You in the right forum here? If it was intentional like the Bahrain incident last year with I "think" Paul-The DUD-Morris re-entering the track at speed to deliver a retaliatory blow then perhaps a certain amount of outrage could be warranted however he just didnt allow enough room and an error was made. Nobody is perfect and at least he admitted he was in error by not realising he had enough space unlike others who would quickly cast blame on all and sundry to deflect criticism of themselves. I'd rather a smiling face admitting a mistake then a grumpy f**khead blaming others. Craig is not perfect, he's crashed heaps but in the end small errors cause big problems. It's racing... -

The driving standard does need to be looked at but the issue lies in the competitive nature of the field and the relative even racing that can happen in a semi-controlled series. When you have someone bordering on blocking you when you clearly have superior car speed at the time then you can get a little irate. Lowndes committed to the corner and was pushed right against the wall into the marbles and rubbish there which resulted in him not being able to pull the car up properly. Full credit to both drivers for getting away with it but realistically Lowndes was really being blocked there which is an infringement in itself. Neither benefitted from the move. Lowndes move on Courtney wasn't the brightest thing to do. He did turn in on him a little tight but at the end of the day, it's racing and the whole idea is to beat the guy beside you. Probably should have left it a little wider there but people make mistakes and race cars arent the easiest things to see out of especially with a HANS device attached. As for the bumping, it happens when you need to maximise your speed and cornering in order to get by a car of very similar speed and ability. It's a different thing when you've got a lot of disparity between cars which happens with a lot of grass roots racing, but you look at any controlled field and you'll see people getting super close and lots of panels being rubbed. Have you been out to a hire kart track lately and tried to get a run on someone out of a corner only to find they didnt move precisely where you'd hoped they would? Same thing, just bigger budgets and taller poppies. Bet if you'd done it she'd have been a "racing incident mate" I was impressed with van Gisbergen in the ford. Driving well, but damn did that thing have some straight line grunt too... Towards the end of race 2 after a restart they had a 4 wide run going on and he pulled 3 or so car lengths on the others up the shortish straight they were on -
I don't suppose you were there early enough to see the RX7 in the sedans category qualifying? Ran a 1min18.0 which I thought was real good but appears it didnt survive qualifying. Was gone before I got out there for the first race so it died during qualifying I guess? Ahha, now I see. Ive only been on Morgan once but it's such a huge pita to get out there Undulating? I'm guessing... More fun layout there for sure, but I wish it was closer Too serious for fun? Ya jokin' mate I have a speed addiction, and Im not talking about the tablet kind... I never even bothered taking the basic readings you would if you were keen on shaving that extra tenth from your times. Friends use their pyrometer once to check tyres temps on the car but I lost the sheet anyway lol. I went for fun from the speed and the challenge of going fast around corners without crashing. Anyway, this first round there's no pink Mk2 or white R33 Skyline turning up so it'll be up to others to show some support.

Sound from the God's belly rumbling cause he's hungry... This will satisfy... and it isn't a Snickers though there are traces of nuts

Well, anything is better then nothing wouldnt you say? Lakeside would be better then Qld Raceway but we dont have that luxury yet. Anyway, yes to a certain extent QR National rewards HP and Brakes, but at the end of the day the car still needs to last the entire 15 laps. Not hard for a V8 Supercar but for the average car screwed together in the titan she's a challenge. Example- TopGear the other weekend, sedan category had 39 entries but by the end of the day which was only 5 lap dashes on the various circuits only 14 saw the chequered flag of the last race... So HP and brakes are cool, but reliability can win too
-
Here ya go then, little bit of VL action and an in-car of Grice too

Yeah, its getting like F1 on the road. Except F1 are removing drivers aids now, as opposed to Nissan and Mitsubishi who give drivers aids... (pun intended) See that Toyota might be bringing back the Supra? or some sort of Supra-style coupe with lots of pistons and typically, 2WD? Im constantly amazed that a company like Toyota with all their resources has never tried to actually compete with Nissan, Mitsubishi and to a lesser extent Honda when it came to the top-line sportscars (GTR, NSX) or 4WD high performance sedans (Evo). The GTR has been around since Adam was a boy and they've never tried to counter it with their own version, and it's not like the GTR turned into a Mitsubishi 3000GT which sank like a stone. The GTR is world recognised and forever famous the world over. You can't buy that name-branding publicity yet Toyota's left those laurels on Nissans mantle-piece...
