So this year at Tsukuba the garages might as well show up with showroom stock V35s huh, kinda takes the joy out of it all really lol
-
The current V35 does it in 60sec? Is that right? Mark and Russ were only scant seconds faster on semis and mega power with lightened car etc... Sounds too fast to me isnt it?

Im guessing you're in Sydney? You'll need to find an engineer down there and get specifics. NSW RTA will be able to provide a list of suitable engineers for the task. As a guideline, in QLD. Side intrusion bars must be of an approved design submitted to Qld Transport before someone is able to fit them to vehicles. They must meet certain criteria therefore you can't just bang them together in your garage from whatever you have lying around. Usually engineers up here have them certified and then they can fit them to any vehicle as required. If you wanted to design and submit your own that'd be fine but generally for one vehicle it wouldnt be worth the hassle.

QRDC March 8th & 9thCancelled Sorry, we have had to cancel the first round of the QRDC because so many of our regulars are going to Bathurst for Easter on the following weekend and I certainly cannot hold hard feelings for anyone for doing that. Our sincere best wishes for a great weekend to all of you that are making the trek down there - if there is one place that does not need pushing its gotta be Mt Panorama. The second round of the QRDC is well and truly subscribed all ready so we look forward to seeing you at QR over the weekend of May 2-4th if not at the TopGear on April 20th. For the 35 of you that had pre-entered we are happy to offer you free general practice on Saturday, March 8 to make up for the messing about and hopefully some consolation for not going to Bathurst. In addition, you have a guaranteed entry for our first TopGear race meeting to be held at Lakeside which may well be April 20 if all goes well and you have managed to get your car's noise levels low enough! Thank you for your support and sorry about the disappointment but as you can see we are doing our best to make it up to you. Cheers, jt For more details please contact QLD Raceway on 07 5461 9100

My recollection of the 7M power from back then was 490hp. Its probable that the quoted power output is its current state which reflects my earlier comment of newer ideas and technology releasing greater power then they used to have. Also you'll note it says "qualifying trim" which obviously isnt what they raced it at otherwise she'd be oiling down the track every time...

Yeah but it weighs about the same as a large pizza from Domino's too Do you have an oil cooler of some sort on there? If not, get one but don't get a chinese one unless you dislike your engine. The cooler might be ok but the oil lines are poor quality rubber. Saw one in use on an R33 with big dollar engine where the rubber was falling apart and blocking the turbo oil feed. This caused the bearings to collapse and the turbo to die, followed by the bearing parts travelling to sump, being eaten by the dry sump pump and so on... Chinese hose cost bigtime. -
I think the power will be up too. Newer technologies, even with the restrictions imposed will give better torque plus manufacturing techniques etc will result in a higher specific output. 16+yrs is a long time

That BMW has some serious acne going on...

Yeah but even here the Supra did poorly. I think Toyota didnt really give it the support it needed as they were going hard in the rally arena. They might have done better if they'd released the JZA70 supra a little sooner with the 2.5ltr engine. Better reliability then the 3ltr 7M and with the lesser capacity it'd get away with a lighter weight and maybe it'd get somewhere but GrpA died before it got a chance to race.

I love the misplaced commentary lol. Murray's a classic, talking it up. "Rouse is up alongside Harvey..." - No, he's actually 2 car-lengths back "Rouse makes a pass and takes the lead" - No, he hit harvey mid-corner unsettling harvey then passing him It was clear Rouse was being held up though, and its good footage but pity it's not Australian GrpA

Only if you manage to set it on fire. I believe the magnesium alloys they use in the last few decades are different to the old days. Hewland for instance offer magnesium casings for most of their gearboxes and Rays Engineering still supply wheels manufactured from forged magnesium. Im sure it'll still burn like a beauty once you get it going but I think they've toned it down a little from how it used to be...

Afraid I don't know sorry. My memory struggles to go back 17 hours let alone 17 years. All that info was lifted direct from turbosupras as credited. Not Group A but I did happen across a little bit of info on the JZA80 Super GT Supra that TRD have in Australia currently http://www.toyota.com.au/TRD/#main/motorsp...trdSupra:page=1
-
To keep things even and balanced I decided to support Japan's leading manufacturer and present one of their Group A efforts. While I can appreciate the efforts the French have gone to with the Nissan brand Im afraid I prefer Japanese Toyota's a little more. This information was taken from www.turbosupras.com along with the images. In the heyday of Group A touring car racing Toyota campaigned the MA70 Supra as a contender in the over 3 litre category. In total 11 Group A MA70 Supras were built by TRD Japan and raced internationally. The car in the photos is number 7 of these 11 factory built cars and was raced on the Australian Group A touring car circuit by John Smith. After the demise of the Group A category, John Smith was able to retain this vehicle rather than return it to TRD Japan. It is believed to be one of only 2 (the other wearing the blue BiJo/Fujitsu Ten livery as seen on various scale models) remaining intact. Built to the group A formula the specifications of the car are a sign of the times. Engine specification include: Cast magnesium 9 litre oil pan with matching high flow oil pump, Knife edged steel crank, N/A block hand picked from production line, Short skirt Mahle/TRD pistons, prepped rods and full floating pins. Titanium fasteners were used throughout the motor. Extensive porting and re-shaping of the combustion chambers was performed with oversized titanium valves fitted. Camshafts were of 288 degree duration with their 10.88mm lift making shim under buckets a necessity along with 100lb valve springs. Titanium cam gears were also employed. Intake and exhaust manifolds were port matched. A 65mm throttle body was used. Fuel delivery consisted of 1000cc injectors and multiple fuel pumps. The ECU was MAP based rather than the traditional AFM which was found on the the production MA70 with the exception of the homologation Turbo A, of which 500 were made. The turbocharger used on the race cars was a derivative of the CT-26 unit used on the Turbo A homologation production model but with a larger compressor wheel and more importantly a larger turbine housing and wheel. The intercooler was of a similar style core to the road going vehicles but with larger core area and larger piping. The turbine outlet employed a smaller separate outlet for the wastegate, similar to some of the aftermarket units currently available. Engine output was 580hp at the flywheel in qualifying trim (2 Bar) and the vehicle was able to achieve a maximum speed of 300km/hr on Conrod straight during the Bathurst 1000km Endurance race. In 1991 the car was running in 6th place late in the race until sidelined by a power steering failure of all things. Drive train consisted of a Hollinger close ratio 5 speed with a direct 5th gear (all contained within the standard Toyota gearbox housing) and a TRD billet differential similar to the units commercially available but not identical, evidenced by the carrier not fitting into a standard housing explaining the slightly different housing on the race vehicle. Harrop 4 piston callipers with 15.5" (393mm) Rotors were fitted up front, as a result 18 x 12 " rims were required. The vehicle was not as successful as its peers, notably the Ford Sierra and Nissan Skyline GTR, as its larger engine capacity required it to run at a higher kerb weight by the Group A regulations and also due to a lack of development relative to its competition.

The first Qld Raceway Drivers Championship round is on March 8th and 9th but I doubt very much that I'll get out to it as the 180SX wont be here by then or if it is, it wont be ready. Just not enough time for it. After that its a TopGear round on 20th April which I'll most likely attend and the 2nd round of the QRCS is 3rd/4th May which I will definately be at. However the 180 won't be anywhere near as fast as your R32 so don't expect any competition from it. It's intent is as a girls car don't forget -

Arse monkey? If I wasn't so fat and lazy, and didnt have this yummy banana to finish Id show you a thing or two... Disrespectful young whipper-snapper Well, if you were to buy it for me I wouldnt say no Rivals? Only if it's friendly. And there's no vendetta's either. Competition improves the breed and currently you're the fastest on the Sprint. Seems it's what everyone uses it as their yard stick and I kind of like the idea of Superlap/Time attack though I'll always prefer proper circuit with others diving for the same corner. Wish I had your budget though, boy the things I could do to the Mk2 then More 2J's then RB's can be taken 2 ways though Shane. 1- 2J is becoming more popular for people to modify 2- 2J breaks sooner so have to be in workshops getting rebuilt... As for TopGear, its fun but I'll more then likely only be watching this year too. I'll try and compete in only the JDM rounds at the QRDC events this year. Would be nice to have more contenders this year though. The most JDM cars entered last year in one round (other then MX5's) was about 9 I think, 6 or 7 of which were WRX's and only 1 of those actually lasted to the final race on Sunday. A couple didnt show, another blew a box, another blew an engine etc etc. Would be nice to see some of these fast Skylines and S13/14/15's out there. -

Yeah, I was going to suggest next time he photographs his tough engine he should move the clutter from in front of it, then I realised with huge disappointment that the clutter WAS his pride and joy Masochists abound... -

Well, I think maybe it's age catching up? Semi-slick 285 hoosiers leave nice lines hey lol It's his father driving it actually. Michael didn't drive it much last year. -

Smarty... I had wastegate problems so I missed race 1 and had to start from the back in race 2. I could ask why it is that you only just managed to get under 60sec on the Clubman yesterday at QR too -

One of my favourite pictures. The guys at RPM Photography were in the right spot with the finger on the button for this one lol. Kudos to them for this, as it's by far the shot of the year at QR for me. -

Insurance For Your Track/race Car
Stupid Toyota replied to Merli's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Simple, trailer... The problem from their perspective is the possible chanceof someone crashing at the track where insurance doesnt cover it, and claiming it was on the road going to or from the track. Seen it before on a road car which was $100,000 new and copped $30,000 damage on a track. -
New Race Track For Nsw?

Helps that they've been around forover 50yrs -
Thought it must have been something like that but wanted to confirm anyway. Its interesting seeing some of the rule-bending things people did, and the rule breaking things too. Apparently the Walkinshaw Jaguars had an over-size fuel tank and an inflating bladder inside which the driver operated to make it look like the regulation 120ltr tank. This was mentioned in one of the new motorsport magazines on the shelf at the newsagent. Apparently added an extra 7ltrs to the capacity it was allowed. Rumours abound of GMS "factory intercoolers", boost controllers hidden in ignition switches and behind warning lamps etc. I guess Nissan needed all the help it could get huh Im suuuuure Toyota never cheated....

Alright I'll bite... why is there an AFM screwed to the left-hand strut tower?

Yeah, it's always annoyed me that Toyota don't make an affordable small-midsized RWD car. The last small car was the AE86 and we all know the stigma attached to those cars, plus for a basic mid 80's car they are sickeningly over priced. After that the next step is an IS200 which isn't cheap and the aussie ones have junk engines. Toyota also don't do any RWD 4cyl turbo engines either so you have to convert stuff to get what you want. Bloody bean counters....
