  1. Well you've got a topic going now so ask what you need and Im sure all those who have the answers will give them. The whole idea of the Qld Raceway Saturday arvo sprints is for people in their road cars to get time on a race track. Make sure your car is safe, you have a helmet and acceptable clothing and away you go. Licences can be purchased there on the day, but you must book in early as its popular
  2. Calder looks more like a HP track, and the Club circuit at Winton is also a 1min approx track and looks more interesting. Tighter and more challenging plus its also a AASA track, being used by the AMRS which is a AASA event. But, thats just my opinion.
  3. Well hopefully Russ you'll get something down in print because Im building a Silvia at the moment to suit this format. Also seeing it's looking like we'll be able to use Lakeside again late in 2008 I reckon with its twisty/challenging track layout that it would be perfect for the Qld rounds of the this particular Time-Attack series and perhaps an challenge could then be setup between the states. Kind of a State of Origin except only Russell gets sweaty and wears short shorts... It could be nice to have an interstate invite series. Qld- Lakeside NSW- Wakefield Vic- Winton
  4. If you look on the QR website you'll see a thing called a calendar. it lists the dates of the tracks bookings etc for the year. Saturday sprints, wednesday sprints, etc etc Cars dont need rego on a closed track. They just need to be safe
  5. IMO items that are safety related shouldn't relegate the car to race only class. Yes a cage will help improve times, but the primary purpose of it is to protect the driver. Im sure nobody likes seeing a car hit the wall, but if the driver gets killed due to lack of cage in order to fit in a class then Im sure the event organisers and all around would feel a lot worse about it. Cages SHOULD be encouraged. Its a speed event, with walls involved if you get it wrong. Safety should always be paramount. Harness's should be encouraged, extinguishers, proper seats, appropriate clothing etc etc. Street class should be street legal AND street registered. No point calling it a street class otherwise... Race class, everything else that isnt legal or isnt registered. You can legally have a bolt in cage in a street car. You cant run side pipes and no mufflers. Look at things from a realistic perspective, use a tyres ratings to split them in the class rules and then concentrate on having fun. The last thing anybody wants or needs is a rule book that requires a lawyer to understand and a spare month to read through.
  6. If I was a betting man, Id guess he's saying it has good turn-in. Either that or he's saying it has good acceleration/revs easily. With the power it has, and the fact it looked ordinary on the track through the corners Id say he was refering to the engine revving easily more then its handling.
  7. Whats with the yankee chick in it? She looks deformed, like a swarm of angry bee's have done their worst on her chest...
  8. Hey Russ, or who-ever can answer really. Whats the rules for the Time Attack stuff in Japan? What tyres etc, that sort of thing? I notice no-one runs slicks? Is that their choice or a rule? Im more curious about 2WD then 4WD if that makes any difference to rules?
  9. In the CAMS manual for Sports Sedans, section 3.7 (iii) it states windscreen may be replaced with polycarbonate of not less then 6mm thickness. Unlikely this will hold consistant for other classes, but for sports sedans at least its all good
  10. Why do you want a PC front screen? For the sake of 5 or 6 kilograms wouldnt you be better off skipping a few meals? PolyCarbonate scratches easily, plus it has to be minimum 5mm (or may be 6mm) thick for use as a front screen according to CAMS. you cant use your wipers if it rains etc etc etc.
  11. You need a cage to go racing I wont be racing this year now. Too much crap has hit the fan with work and the car etc. so I'll be using the balance of this year to clean up and prepare the car properly for next year.
  12. Virginia, Qld Any help at all would be appreciated
  13. Couldn't help yourself hey Russ, just had to go and better my time on the sprint track I see
  14. Four posts up, you'd have read the answer to the first question. Restrictions? None at all. Basic safety requirements as per all racing, rollcage, harness, race suit, fire extinguisher, capable car. Go Here for more specifics- JDM Forum outline
  15. It's what seperates us from the yobbo V8 crowd... well, me at least
  16. The next round is on Saturday the 10th and Sunday the 11th of November. Its the last round for this year, and next years calender hasn't been published yet by Qld Raceway. If you go to their website and look at the calender you'll see the dates of the QRCS which is where the JDM stuff is run. Sadly there aren't too many people of "influence" around who can push the series and promote it. Those of us who have been attending the rounds try and promote it but people seem barely interested as they'd rather thrash a car in drift then race it. Either that or they say "yeah yeah I'll be there..." then never show. Disappointing really since there are scores of capable cars around. Hundreds of cool import cars, and no-one wants to use them
  17. Now you know why my car has a big muffler and sounds so quiet when its circulating . I set it up for this exact outcome (Plus I hate the noise from un-muffled cars... awful awful awful)
  18. LOL, Ive been busted... I'm taking my time with it I must admit. Barely touched it today, serviced the work ute instead. Looking into a few upgrades because it sounds like I might be chasing your times again with all the mods you've been making Might even start on a new engine for the car, for next year. Won't go for any more power initially as 2WD is pretty limiting currently. More like less weight, better distribution and bigger brakes.
  19. Thanks mate (I think lol) Unfortunately, I wont be out this weekend except as a spectator. Realised a little too late that the car has a blown headgasket from the last round and I really wasnt in the mood to swap the engine out of the other car into it. I've stripped it all down now to give it a freshen up instead, plus I'll be making some changes to the cooling arrangement. Annoying, but thats cars for you I guess.
  20. And yet plenty of them go drifting, which is a lot harsher on a car, and the probability of body damage is so high its essentially a guarantee... All the circuit guys are careful about shunting another car, because it ruins the day, and we'd rather not be spending money repairing the body. The carnage at 12 months of JDM racing wouldn't even equal one practice night at Archerfield I reckon. Anyway, we're out there for fun and thrills, not carnage and spills so don't let the idea of being run into drive you away. We don't have big dollar sponsors to pick up the tab if the cars written off or damaged. All comes from our own pockets
  21. Yeah, I think maybe after years of self abuse, it just came naturally for them to advance to auto abuse.
  22. So... the big question is- Who is coming out to race, and who is coming out to watch? It's on the Sprint circuit this time, and they are 18 lap races. Anyone brave enough to come play with R33RACER and me? Anyone? Anyone at all??? AMEC? How about it mate?
  23. But Giant has a Skyline, that alone should negate any slick tyre in existance according to some lol. Anyway, many people say that the current semi slick tyres are just as good as a full slick anyway. I wonder how much slower a V8 Supercar would be on dunlop semi's rather then the full slicks they use... And a Semi slick doesnt mean its halfway between a road tyre and a race tyre anyway. Just means its a race tyre with DOT approval and some grooves really. Anyway, pink car #90 might be getting joined by pink car #900 soon
  24. Here's an updated photo of work in progress on my car. The rear rims are 17x12 Panasport Racing rims with 300x640 Dunlop slicks on them and fronts are 17x10 Panasport Racing rims with 265x625 Dunlops. Flares are compliments of the local holden dealership. Im awaiting delivery from down south of two more rear flares which will then be blended into those already on the car to give a full flare all round the wheel-arch. Chose them because they were cheap, the plastic is flexible and will take a knock without busting and they were a pretty decent fit. Still got to cut out the rear wheel arches and fill in the gap and then paint everything in go-fast pink.
  25. Its actually sporting holden parts( front rotors), ford parts (front brake hats) and the nissan parts (throttle body) lol. In fact after tomorrow it'll be sporting even more holden parts in the form of Adventra flares front and rear Its the colour that makes it fast anyway. Everybody knows pink cars rock....
