Some Low Life Peice Of Shit Backed Into My Car
GeneralSpeed replied to pentae's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Vandalism seems to mainly happen to cars that look like they are cared for nicely - I suspect if it's not a grudge it's probably jealousy/tall poppy syndrome. Unfortunately, to stay under the radar it seems you need a shit looking car. I've always preferred sleepers partly for this reason (and other reasons, like cops...). People who do runners after an acco do so because, well, there's nothing stopping them from running unless a cop shows up at that moment (yeah, right). And I wouldn't chase them unless you want to wear a fine, points loss, possible licence loss....because that cop that wasn't around for the crash will probably spot your flouro pink skyline with chrome rims going 120k's in a 60 zone moment's after the crash and think you are racing... -
Rb30ed Cars Wanted For New Web Site
GeneralSpeed replied to GDZ1LA's topic in General Automotive Discussion
A lot of people with "unique" cars might not want to give all of those details over - some because they are go-fast secrets (ie comp ratios on built engines), others might not be comfortable handing over names, plates and addresses to their pride and joy. Anyway, good luck with the website. -
Let the imports in. All you idiots whinging about resale value because you paid 60k for your GTR's are almost exclusively the same people who make very nice livings from supply and demand economics. Hypocrites. How about we totally screw the supply and demand in the industries YOU work and see how much you like it. Point is - imports are popular, and continue to be popular. The irony is that all these people who make their incomes from the free market are the first to support government intervention into a market where they stand to lose, not gain. Once again - hypocrites.

Well I got my skyline late last ye.....wait....that's not a skyline, it's a volvo. I'm 21 and have paid for every cent, which wasn't much anyway. I probably would buy a GTR or Supra TT outright if I could afford it, but I can't....and I'm not keen on the idea of owing money and interest, having that hang over me. It's obvious that some people haven't worked much for their cars, and others have worked very very hard for the same car. I don't think there is an single label you could put on young skyline owners. Or young owners of any fairly expensive car.

Russian guy, I wasn't trying to say your country is a living hell. I'm sure there are things that are good over there, but theres still a lot of trouble from the reforms after the cold war. My family is from poland and I still have family living over there, ok it's not russia but its sort of similar, and there are some serious problems compared to the west. I would still LOVE to visit russia though, I've always wanted to go there and see what its like for myself instead of listening to relative's stories of it
-
Yeah they have it so easy in Russia. Mmmmm avg income like 1/4 of australias. Snow for at least half the year. High unemployment and absolutely nutty crime levels. Those really shitty pre-fab apartments. I could go on.... If you want to live somewhere where the cars rule and its fuggin cold....go to sweden! PS. sorry russian guy, but it had to be said

How many of you dont have insurance??
GeneralSpeed replied to awill's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Ring up racq and see what they would charge you if you are male, under 25 for the minimum amount ($3k), rating 6, full comprehensive. Tho 3rd party property + fire + theft is only $190/yr. -

GeneralSpeed replied to awill's topic in General Automotive Discussion
I don't. Quoted $1700/yr for a $2700 car. -
Saw the news today, apparently a guy (and his white skyline) are dead - wrapped around a tree near the gold coast. Hopefully not someone from here? news link

Which is the ultimate? Supra VS GT-R
GeneralSpeed replied to 8thSIN's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Assuming hp is the same... Skyline easily outhandles Supra. Skyline easily out-launches Supra. However... Supra easily out-accelerates Skyline once it is above about 60km/h. If you want to do the drag strip thing, it's a hard question. You can get a GTR into the 10's without changing the internals of the engine. You can also do the same for a Supra, though you require much more hp to make up for the lacklustre launching that Supras have. If you like to race people on the freeway, a single turbo Supra on stock internals with high octance race fuel is virtually unbeatable, and very streetable too (can just turn down boost to run 98octane for normal driving). However if you like stoplight racing, the Skyline's AWD will pretty much own the Supra. Around a racing circuit the Skyline wins easily, Supra really can't compare. So it depends on what you want to use them for. If you love freeway roll-ons, and have the above-mentioned single turbo (ie T88) Supra, it would require an absolutely mind-blowingly engineered, and priced, Skyline to just keep up because they have to rebuild the engine from the bottom up, and will most likely have to deal with being at least 200cc's down (unless they get the OS-Giken 3-litre block). From a stop though, the Skyline can hold it's own, and will be many seconds per lap ahead on the track, and almost always ahead on the drag strip given hp is the same. -
I saw a white R-34 GT-T with....ugly bodykit, GTR badge and stock GT-T wheels. Could he have made it any worse? I mean the tasteful thing would be to do the opposite - leave the body stock, not put on a GTR badge and buy some decent wheels. At least then you can say you've got a decent looking GT-T, as opposed to a sad wannabe-GTR GT-T.

The important question is - did you win?

speed radar detectors and jammers
GeneralSpeed replied to pentae's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Qld police use Spectre radar detector detectors - only a few of the top brands of radar detectors can go undetected by it, and only one can actually detect the Spectre (unfortunately, at the same time the Spectre detects it). Also keep in mind, by mounting it in the front of your car you lose rear detecting capability. If you want to use a radar detector like the americans do (ie stick it to the windscreen whenever you want) - forget it. The only real way you will get away with it is to be very serious about it. Not only have a radar detector, but make sure its hard to see from where you mount it, hard to find during a RTA inspection (ie good hiding spots in your car), get yourself a radio scanner (so you can listen to police radio), and so forth. And keep in mind, radar detectors are fairly obvious to notice even without seeing them - if you are speeding and all of a sudden as soon as a radar/lidar is turned on you slam on your brakes so you don't get booked for speeding, they will notice this. And as was previously mentioned, penalties are very severe for having even an unopened, boxed radar detector in the boot of your car. However, it's your car, license and money, so ultimately it's up to you. -
What are the regulations on importing engineless cars, or just bodies, or just engines, and so forth from Japan by themselves? Can you buy a whole bunch of parts and body bits from Japan, get them shipped over individually and build a car out of them and register it here? Could you import an aftermarket second hand engine from Japan and stuff it into any car over here and have it road legal?
-
Must you really post in all caps? It's just plain annoying to read. To be honest, I would like to read what you say but I can't - it's just too painful.
-
Ok you start with $15k, at the age of say, 16. You are now 18, and have $70k. This means you have gained $55k in at most, 3 years. This works out to be just under $20k/year. In other words - you didn't actually earn much of that by working, obviously. Most 16 year olds are lucky to get 6 bucks an hour, and they've got school at least part time. That amount of money is not far off what a lot of people on adult wages get for full time work. So again, I conclude, that it is rich parent syndrome
-
Of course it's rich parents. No 18 year old who has worked full time since they are legally allowed to work could have saved up $70k, unless they are some sort of child prodigy (and my impression of this person is that they aren't especially intelligent). Needless to say, 70k is almost enough for an R34 GTR, or a 1000hp R32. Being 18, he would surely trash the latter, and probably the former, so let him go for it.
-
Hey if you've got $60k for a car you can probably call in another $10k for something like that, especially a 1000hp skyline!
-
Oh and that price is very damn valuable I might add. Trust 6 speed gearbox's are like $AU10k+ alone, you'll pay about the same for the T-88 turbo kit, and that doesn't include the bodykit, internal engine mods (it would have to have a built bottom end to reach 800hp/ps), wheels, roll cage, guages, suspension, carbon fibre bonnet and so on. That sort of value is indicitive of the general value in buying from japan. If I had ~$35k that car would have been mine.... Oh and if you have LOTS of money, try this one - http://www.prestigemotorsport.com.au/au/st...sp?StockID=1264
-
If you are going to get a GTR that does 10's, get an R32. Japan has plenty for import if you have the cash. For example here's one that would easily run 10's (and probably 9's if setup right) and it's only $35k~ http://www.prestigemotorsport.com.au/au/st...sp?StockID=1100 This one was already sold, but theres that many high hp R32 GTR's floating around the Japanese auctions you would be stupid not to consider them
-
The quality is indeed questionable, but also keep in mind that Australia is a fairly large export market for auctions in Japan. When something happens here regarding importing, it affects the price of some cars. Ie the prices of surf's went up when the govt. banned them from import. So either the Japanese are trying to get rid of their crap GTR's, or they realise that there are going to be a lot of buyers for them, hence more being on the market and the price going lower for now. Though theres a GTR for $15.5k on the prestige motorsport site and THAT would be a dodgy deal. However a lot of the ~$18k ones with only a few mods seem ok.

Anyone imported a 15+ year old car under new scheme?
GeneralSpeed replied to esprit's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Imo the Mk3 Supra's from 1988-89 with turbo 7mgte's are better value than R32 GTS-T's. And if you've got a bit more cash just go for a cheap GTR.
