  1. Anybody got the photos? I had my lady-killer seductive pose out that evening..
  2. This sounds like a total crock to me. Agreed. I used to know someone who worked in the area of investigating these types of claim for a japanese manufacturer. The crap that people try to blame on cars is amazing. Americans are famous for it.. Anyway; just for laughs, the other day, I was driving my towing mule 4x4 down the eastern (late at night, empty road). I pushed my accelerator to the floor, then tried to use the brake to decelerate from 100. Slowing the car needed some leg muscle, but was possible. My 4x4 has nearly twice the torque of a ford explorer (650nm) and significantly more power. I could believe that this kid couldn't get the car down to stopped with just the brakes; but slowing down to less than 80 wasn't possible? Bullshit. The only explanation I can think of is that the car was in shitty condition (ie: brake pads worn out or something like that). Failure of a single system isn't that unusual. Failure of all these things at once (cruise disable on braking, ignition jam, trans locked into auto, brake effectiveness unable to slow the V12 down to less than 80kmh etc). Smells like a dumb kid trying to get his 15 minutes of fame.. Classic pictures of him in a neck brace on a stretcher after he stopped, yet he didn't hit ANYTHING, and apparently couldn't even stop quickly. I smell a scam/nutjob....
  3. Hmm, Can't top the watch one, but if there's a wooden spoon for biggest pratt: here's my pitch. I normally only wear ear protection when I'm doing something loud. I was using my plasma cutter, and it wasn't that loud so I just wore an oxy mask. Of course, plasma cutters blow away the molten steel. Out of the corner of my eye, I see a bright red ball of steel go up from the cutter, bounce off something, and feel it go into my left ear. @#$@#$ me it hurt. Makes note to self: wear ear protection when plasma cutting. Two days later, using the Mig welder. Wearing the full auto lcd facemask, but no ear protection, as I thought the facemask was enough protection. I'm welding, hear this pop, see a bright red ball of steel go up, bounce off something, and feel it go into my left ear. @#$@%# me, that hurt too. Turns out my big fat head and my wing nut-air brake ears are quite effective at collecting flying debris. Went to the doctor. He said I had 2 balls of steel in my ear canal, about 1mm from my ear drum. Tried to wash it out with a syringe but failed, so had to go to a ear-nose-throat specialist. Turn up to the specialist, and he's got a dentist's chair, and a german bedside manner kinda like the dentist in the marathon man movie.. Puts me in this dentist chair, and uses tools I can't begin to describe to dig these bits of metal out of my head. It hurt more than anything I have ever felt in my life, including the time I used a pipe wrench to shatter my thumb into 5 pieces (a whole other sorry story ).. 300$ and a whole lotta pain later, I now wear ear protection, even when making toast...

Hopefully catch you guys at PI. Cheers, Scott. P.S: Watching that GTR smoke all 4 wheels off the line was sweeeeet...
  5. Greetings Snowman + friends. I'm hoping to do Targa rookie next year also, so that probably means no Buller/Lake Mountain this year I did scrutineering school last weekend. If you guys are wanting official help at your events, please PM me... Cheers, Scott.

  7. Snowman: did you hit something/bottom out etc? I have been trying to decide if I should ditch the airbags or not. I was keeping them in, since I thought they probably wouldn't go off unless I was in a big one (pull lots of G's in right direction). I also thought that they would be nice to have since they help decelerate your head. The opposing view is that since you're in a car with a cage and in a harness, the timing of the airbag will be all wrong (I think you arrive later than the car expects due to lack of interia reel etc). I am also worried that if I clip a serious corner that they'll go off, rendering me blind for an instant (stun from explosion sound etc) and send me off into the greenery.. Has anybody seen any documentation showing that they are bad for motorsport? I always assumed competitors pulled them out of the cars as they are heavy (my passenger bag weighs 4kg). Cheers, Scott.
