I'm hoping to restore the blackness of my front lip as show in the photo below. Because it seems like a pretty easy job, I've decided to do it myself instead of paying someone 250bucks to do it for me. What I have gathered is,
1) Sand the surface with a coarse wet/dry sandpaper (600-800?)
2) Sand the surface with smoother wet/dry sandpaper (1200-1500?)
3) Clean the surface with soap, water and prepsol
4) Use masking tape to cover up the line between frontbar and lip with 3 layers of newpaper covering the top of the frontbar.
5) Use a primer spray can on surface (can you spray the paint right after the primer or do you have to wait for it to dry up? I've read about flexaid for plastic, is this the same as primer?)
6) Use matt (flat) black spray can from a distance going from 1 corner to the other (taking note to spray "over the lip" at the start and end of spray pattern)
Obviously this will be done on a normal day (not rainy) but does anyone know how long does it normally take for the spray paint to dry up? Also I'm thinking I MIGHT not need to spray it if the sandpaper can restore the blackness of the plastic. Last question is, any problem with spray painting on a plastic (need special type of spray?)?
It'll be great if anyone that has done the same can comment. Thanks in advance.
