As a dealer who also does compliance on Elgrand's and Estima's, I think there might be a bit of mis-understanding here. Firstly the term "campervan" only means it requires a small box containing a $10 Bunnings stove and small fire extinguisher and for 4 of the 8 seatbelts to be removed. Secondly most dealers will register a car when its sold so hence the seating capacity can only be changed after registration so they would be 4 seaters on their yard. This is not illegal at all, in fact after registration according to the Vic Road's guide lines the extra 4 seat belts can be re-installed without an engineers certificate as long as its noted that passengers of under 38kgs use those seats ie they become childrens seats. Anyway as with anything, do your homework before you buy, in Victoria if you buy an Elgrand or Estima and it was promised that it would be registered as an 8 seater just make sure that the blue modification plate has been fitted to the vehicle showing the seating numbers, this also the case in Queensland and I believe NSW will soon introduce a similar system.

Some Import Guideline Questions
carizma replied to BJY007's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
Hey there mate, Yes there is no problem bringing in a GTR Skyline, but what i can recommend is that you use our online quote system to get an idea on costing from Japan. You will still need to add your states rego and stamp duty fee and a RWC, but it should give you a good ballpark figure to work with. Our fee for SAU people is only $550 also Hope this helps http://carizma.com.au/Pages/online_quote.php Paul @ Carizma -

Import Or Local Second Hand?
carizma replied to OmegaZ33TSP's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
Hey Omega, Just for your info, when we are importing cars there are 2 models we pay particularily close attention too, RX7's and R32Gtrs, because condition is very very important. For a R32 Gtr you could get one in as low as $13K but they will be in bad shape, but for $20 you can get one in Top condition exactly the way you want it. We also recomend you stick to late 92 - 94 models because of the intrusion bars and also cause they will be better condition but it is easy enough to get one in. Our benefit is we do both the import and the compliance if that helps. Drop me a line if you have anymore questions, Regards Paul @ Carizma -
Registering My Car
carizma replied to BOODI's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
Hey mate, Just to help you out a little. Firstly what year is the car.? If its an 89 or 90 its probably come in under the 15 year rule so there is no compliance plate anyway.. Its also possible the compliance plate could have fallen off as its an older car but that doesnt matter cause its on the NEVDIS system, which is Australia wide so it cant have been registered without a compliance plate anyway if it needed one. So the guy you were speaking too has no idea what he is talking about, you dont even need to worry about another compliance plate. I suggest you give em a call. Let me know if you have any trouble. New Import Rules?
carizma replied to pauly24's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
The 15 year rule ended in 2005 and was replaced by the pre 89 rule. Note thats not cars from 1989. As for the compliance, it must be complied under RAWS. Just as a word of advice, you would be better going for a 92 - 94 as it has factory side intrusion bars and the condition will be better and there will be little difference in the overall price. Hey Pav, Its grade 4.5 obviously, has had one owner with log books. Tv Screen and all standard options. Alloy wheels have scratches on them and there is something on top of the engine but its too hard to read. Because its 4.5 grade its probably not too serious. Just get the engine bay checked out. Hope that helps Paul @ Carizma

We currently have 27 vehicles on our compliance list and we are about to add 2 more, Both the Nissan Cube and the Honda Civic EP3. What we need a Test Vehicle of both types for our compliance testing. The turn around would be 3 to 6 months, but it would be a free compliance. Car of course we have to be clean, no rust and as close to factory condition as possible. It would have to come to Melbourne firstly of course but we could send it off from there. If you are interested email us at [email protected] or call on 03 9415 7150. Regards, Paul @ Carizma

Civic Type R
carizma replied to Toda1's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
Hey Toda, Compliance is a federal law not a state law so it doesnt matter where you get the compliance done. We currently have 27 models that we do comply, however the Civic EP3 is one of the only ones we dont do so if you were willing to bring in a test car we would comply it for free for you. Paul @ Carizma -
Hey mate, Just to help you out, you could unregister it and then send it down to Melbourne but be warned, if the guy then goes to the Vic Roads and the people there don't know really what they are doing they might ask him for the import approval and the Consumer Information Notice (CIN). The only way you'll keep the plates though is if you de-register the car in NSW, and then ship it down and the guy down in Melbourne can get a permit to drive it to the Vic Roads office.

Hey GoodoldR32, Hey mate, do you know if it came in on RAWS or with the 15 year rule. If it did come through the 15 year rule then it wouldn't have a plate anyway. But besides that you don't need a plate to get a roadworthy, so your mechanic is way off and anyway, the Vin will be registered with Vic Roads(or your states equivalent) and NEVDIS anyway. Hope that helps Paul @ Carizma
