  1. True, but the cost of hard disk drives and flash memory was way too high when MD first came out. Solid State Drives are new, expensive technology at the moment, but as the price drops due to economies of scale, they will take over from HDDs, too.
  2. The "Synchroniser" switch is the same as the Snow switch, and is what puts your car in 50/50 split. You'd only use it on track or drags if you wanted to blow up your transfer case, which would prove to be an expensive fix. Don't do it!!!
  3. MiniDisc was a flop here in Australia because it was never marketed properly or sufficiently. It was good while it lasted!
  4. Here you go, Yudy! http://ngk.com.au/sparkplug_imports.php?Pa...00TurboRB26DETT
  5. Just had a look at that page, and it's listed the Axis 350-S using the GH-M35 chassis code, with no "N" in there, so it looks like it's RWD only... The info could be incomplete and/or incorrect, though.
  6. Those should be the other way around - 4WD would signify a permanent system like that used in a Subaru. AWD would be a better fit to what all ATTESA ETS-fitted Skylines use, including the Stagea and the GTS4... The Skyline GTS4, Stagea and GT-R are predominantly RWD until the computers sense a loss of traction at the rear wheels, at which point they transfer drive to the front wheels. ATTESA-ETS is an acronym for Advanced Total Traction Engineering System for All-Terrain with Electronic Torque Split. More info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ATTESA
  7. I actually don't mind the odd stare, as I figured if I was gonna buy something different, I might as well go the whole hog! Usually, the only person who refers to my car as a Volvo is Duncan, who refers to his car the same way.
  8. R33 GTSt brakes (both front and rear) are the same as the brakes that came out on the "regular" R32 GT-Rs (i.e., not the V-Spec or N1 versions of the R32, which instead came out with Brembos). The brake pads *might* be around the same size on the Stagea's 2-spot fronts (I've never had a chance to compare them myself), but the extra surface area that is applied to the brake pads from having those extra two pistons in the R33 GTSt/R32 GT-R calipers is what gives you better, and more consistent braking.
  9. Hahaha, yeah, that was a classic, wasn't it Andrew?
  10. Ummm, R33 Skylines DO NOT use a distributor system, they use an igniter and direct-fire coils. Here are a few minor things to check: are you sure it's nothing to do with your alarm and/or immobiliser shorting out somewhere or playing up, and therefore cutting off your spark and/or fuel? when the engine is COLD, remove the radiator lid, start the car (if it will start), and see if there are any bubbles appearing in the radiator fluid. This could indicate a blown head gasket... when the engine is OFF, remove your oil filler cap, and see if the oil looks dark and "clean," or if it's a cream-cloured sludge. Do you know if it was blowing a bluish-grey smoke out of the exhaust at all? This is another sign of a blown head gasket, as the oil and water are mixing and creating that sludge. HOWEVER, considering you saw a big puff of black smoke, I'd say it's either a massive dump of unburnt fuel, or your car is burning oil, which could mean a few things are wrong, including blown piston rings, or maybe even a blown piston... I'd suggest taking it to a (different) mechanic, and getting them to investigate a bit further. I doubt it has THAT much to do with your boost controller.
  11. Was just going thru the pics on my PC, and found this baby!
  12. Spotted Charlie and Alex (CL11QE) tonight up the Coast!
  13. STA93A was on a car that got written off about a year ago, not sure if the owner kept the plates, as he intended to get another Stagea to replace it.
  14. Just to quickly let you know, peoples, that we also have a regular meet-up on the Central Coast every Thursday night. Link is here: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/We...-2-t190095.html All are welcome to join us, as long as you behave yourselves. We have a long-established good reputation with the owner of the car park in which we meet, and rarely, if ever, get hassled by the cops in the area (in fact, it's often quite the opposite!). Any stupid, anti-social behaviour will NOT BE TOLERATED. If you can manage that, then you're sure to have a good time!
  15. The weekly Coastie Cruise is back for the new year, starting tonight! Oh, and by the way, I'd like to organise a cruise for Sydney and NSW owners either late this month or early- to mid-February. Who's keen, and who's got suggestions for a route and destination? I was thinking taking Putty Road up into the Hunter Valley...
  16. This should provide some details on gains made, and Tony's car is an Axis version too... http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/St...35-t244303.html
  17. 6" and 6.5" speakers are the same thing, Ian, it's just some people are too lazy to say "six point five inch speakers." It's like 5" speakers, the actually measure 5.25"...
  18. Spotted and followed a gunmetal grey R33 GTSt on Toongabbie Road in Girraween until he turned off into Mandoon Road around 8.45pm. After that, spotted a white R34 sedan on Merrylands Road in Greystanes around 9.30pm, it was heading towards Greystanes Rd.
  19. You won't (or shouldn't) damage the stereo if you install some new speakers, Ian. Instead, if the internal amp is not powerful enough and distorts, that will kill your speakers. Because the speakers aren't getting a "clean" signal from the stereo, they can't produce a clean sound, and the more it happens, the more damage occurs to the speakers... It's like fuelling your car with dirty and low-grade fuel. Oh, and if the standard stereo doesn't have RCA outputs on it, just buy an amp with high-level inputs on it - it's not a perfect solution, but it's not like you're going to be entering your car in SPL or sound quality competitions, is it?
  20. No way, those plates were a fluke? If it was (and it's a big "if"), then what are the odds of that?
  21. Hmmm, not sure I like it, but the quality of the work that's gone into the pic is pretty high! Maybe it will grow on me as I look at it more, maybe not...
  22. Please tell me you took a photo of that (or at least considered it, if you didn't have a camera available at the time)...
  23. That is a very good point, and I think you're right that it's not taken into consideration anywhere near enough - not by the media, statisticians, whoever...
  24. Nice! Photos look great, I like the way you've got one black and two white Stageas in it.
