  1. Cheers Jeff. Thanks for the offer of tools but I think i'll have that one covered - might hit you up for the manual though Is yours electronic or hardcopy? Confirms a few things. I want to pull the box anyway to fix a couple of noisy bearings in it so should be a good time had by all on the day its coming out. Now re-booked in for the 11th Oct. Just after the cruise... Might need a hand clutch starting the bugger if it doesnt work on the day
  2. Will the engine with the turbos and plenum attached fit through the chassis rails? Thats where I thought we'd get hung up... I did have a look at doing it this way but thought it would be a real tight squeeze / not fit through...
  3. Well the time has come it appears to pull the engine - mostly to do the upgrades but also to do my starter motor. We had the car up on the hoist yesterday and holy god is it a tangle of lines and hardware! From those who have pulled these engines is there any major tricks to getting at things like the starter motor top bolt? Best accessible by taking the oil filter off and getting at it through there? Any hints/tips about the task as a whole would be greatly appreciated. I'm sure we'd get there in the end but having some hints would make like easier as its not exactly like pulling my 240z engine or mini engines... Mini engine out in 25 mins This will take much longer I fear...
  4. Love the brake upgrade.... Definately on my list to do. I cannot decide if I should do my wheels first so I can throw some Brembos on... Looking good Jason!
  5. I dont think there is a chance you're going to find a skyline that hasnt been flogged. Think man! THe nice part about skylines is they're built to be flogged so unless the owner has missed services you should be right. Maybe you'll get lucky and find one with genuinely less than 100k on the clock but I would doubt it. Check the usual for signs of wear and tear - not hard at all to wind a clock back on these puppies. Price wise - probably looking $15-17K
  6. That is one area that I agree with. The car shouldnt be returning such a poor fuel economy. I had my gtst with a hi-flow and very similar mods making 230rwkw and I was always getting close to 500km/tank. Something is not right, I have not the experience or knowledge to say what that is, and I would be getting the tune looked at. Maybe one of the experienced tuners on here could have a look at your tune file if you upload it?
  7. Agree. I put a new cat and a cat-back exhaust onto my gtr whilst it was on the ground in 30mins... Couldnt be arsed jacking it up I did a full dump, cat and cat back on my r33 gtst in about 2 hours including time for the WD40 to sink in on the studs. Cost - nothing! Did it myself without much pain
  8. You have PM - let me know about Friday
  9. Hey mate, where in syd are you? I'd be keen to pick them up
  10. The car spends a lot of time in coffs harbour if you want to come a little less of a drive I work there Tuesday -Thursday every week...
  11. Cheers Jeff! Would be sweet to catch up at any rate! The engine is definately coming out - I just seem to keep having set backs... My mechanic's father just passed so this week is out, and most likely next week as well... The gearbox is getting a freshening up... Whats done to yours?
  12. @ Chris - Basically do the good old screw driver test on the sill. You'll see if and where its buggered pretty quickly. I found that mine had rusted through a couple of panels near the dog leg. I dont know if its common for them to rust out around the wheel arch. Mine looked like it had been dodegied up in japan. Just be prepared - once you start digging you might find shit you dont want to deal with!
  13. maybe I should look into the OEM kit as well... The quality of the hose kit I have seems to be ok though. Chris: The rust - basically its all in the pics.
  14. I'll rip out my verniers and let u know precisely.
  15. Finally got some of the last parts needed for the build. I hope the engine will come out on Monday - I have been waiting for a hoist to come free at my mates place! I bought a full engine gasket kit: Tomei Sump Baffle Kit New siliconm hose kit New Dumps
  16. should be in... Car'll be nice and shiny under the bonnet by then too!
  17. yeah I have bought a full gasket kit so I think it would be a good idea. Basically all the inlet and exhaust gaskets and the crank seal, cam seals, etc...
  18. Lol Seriously - I dont think anyone here is going to say its a great idea to get exemption to drive a turbo mate. Buy a non turbo and dont kill yourself or one of us on the road
  19. I have kinda been scared about putting an N1 pump on from the horror stories (i know many people have had success as well). I wasnt going to do an oil restrictor as I wasnt planning on cracking the engine open. Does the N1 provide higher pressure / greater L/min?
  20. Luckily my labour cost is $0 Allows more parts to be bought. Ash - do you reckon the tomei sump baffle is worthwhile? I dont think I need to go to a larger winged sump, but as I might track it in the future the sump baffle is needed?
  21. Yeah the machining costs add up - which inevitably means you want to put the best parts in to make the most of it... luckily I'm not going down that route just yet
  22. Honestly, who knows how many Kms their car has done!? The engine is coming out for a few reasons. Firstly, as stated above I am doing my turbos and from the advice I have received from many people is it is just as quick to pull the engine and do them out of car. Secondly, I wanted to do the heater hoses and the vaccum lines for the engine - basically undoable with the engine in place. My gearbox is making some interesting noises which make me think the input bearing is a bit dodgey so I want to overhaul it as well. Its easy to service out of car. Regarding doing the bearings and rings. Hmmm... The engine compression is good and it isnt using any oil. I am not planning on building a power monster so i cannot justify opening it up to that extent. Lastly and most importantly, the age old question - where do I stop? If I did the rings and bearings, I most likely couldnt justify the hassle of doing it without new throwing in some forged slugs. Then, if I am doing that should I hone the block, check the crank, have the head once overed, etc.... Basically not what I am aiming for atm.
  23. Oh most definately the paint is going to get a tidy up one of the reasons of buying a full gaskit kit is I can paint all the parts properly. But as it is not a genuine reliability mod I didnt think to post it
  24. Cheers Ash - I have a pretty good mechanic, one I actually used to work for at revo, but we'll definately be careful on the plenum. I have heard that the standard gaskets can become very brittle as they age and have a tendency to split (CRD and JustJap told me). I got a very good price on the dumps so thought I might as well pick them up now - who knows what will come in years to come? Also cheers on the heads up re silicon hoses - is the issue that they perish quickly or that they cannot handle heat? Any incites?
