Rb25 + Gt3076R & Mods, Made Low Power On Dyno Tune Why?
GTScotT replied to DriftSquad's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Looking forward to seeing improved results. -
Just to clarify; you keep saying DE and DET, which means twin cam. The D is for Double overhead cam. A twin cam RB30 is a custom made thing, not found in any STOCK cars. I'll assume you have a VL Turbo because you haven't actually told us what you have.. If you have a VLT with the factory motor (RB30ET), you can drop in an NA or R31 RB30E and legally drive around. This is legal because the car was available with that option. If you have something that did not come with an RB30 from stock it will be illegal to put one in and drive it on your Ps. Its been said before but it is definitely going to be easier to sell the turbo car as it is, or put it away for now, and buy a decent P plate mobile to see you through. 100% easier, less heartache, and you won't devalue the car you own now.

Because they are young and haven't had the years to learn. Let him learn.

Just a quick followup on Kando service, I ordered a set of lines last week and they arrived today. That was under 5 business days door to door, stellar. I also messaged on FB as I had lost the tracking number and was quickly helped out. Service is still great for a company that does the volume they do.

Thanks for the feedback, shame you didn't get to use it with the PFC!
-
I'm just being funny about the pov pack, its definitely the cheapest option is all. I'd run it over a lot of other aftermarket units, but would rather run a Link or Adaptronic for that matter. Money talks XKLABA do you mind telling me who makes the converter box? Is it also Ross? I agree if the PFC can do it, the Nistune can, too. How do you find it works?
-
Glad to see this is resolved, I have been watching with great interest. Today I was having a think and felt worried about the issue occurring on more peoples cars than we would like, and ultimate I came to the conclusion that we are a little stuck when we go for poverty pack Nistune boards. I am just wondering and thinking aloud, has anyone ever tried to run a different trigger system on their Nistune? Such as a crank trigger or similar? I would REALLY like to know if this is at all possible. Perhaps a call to the Nistune dude in SA is necessary, as I am sure something simple can be written into the code.

Stao do you think it could be to do with the fact they are oil cooled only and generally making reasonable power on an RB? Perhaps the SR ones are less likely to fail as MOST 20G's sold by Kando are water cooled? The feedback could prove valuable to this thread and potential buyers, however, it should be noted that Simon and a few others have done extremely well out of their oil cooked T67s.

531 HP or KW? Lith, you are the only one to document a Kando failure. IIRC it was an Evo item which looked very much like it ingested something. You never updated.

Rb25 + Gt3076R & Mods, Made Low Power On Dyno Tune Why?

What manifold is it running? Are you getting adequate flow to the wastegate? IE its not a china stainless manifold with a meter long WG pipe is it? -
Too 20G, Or Not Too 20G, That Is The Question

LOL Dave, IIRC you had a cropped GT30 with an old T04S wheel on it right? Yeah a lot of hate on HG turbos.. I think its because when he first started doing business he was using much older tech stuff.. Things have changed now though and his products are great. My car really hauled ass with the SS1PU, if I wasn't chasing the big 300 I would have never changed it. -

LOL @ honeywell garrett. Don't worry, I wen't to one of the better tuners in NSW and was told similar. Though I know of other issues in my setup and even the way it was tuned that were totally overlooked. They probably felt it was a waste of time without a fancy pants turbo. That being said though, I was only 20kw short of what I felt was the best I could get, and my outcome was actually pretty damn good. Even when the tuner drove the car he was impressed, so he sort of ate his words lol -

Response wise there are a few hundred RPM in it. Check page 1 of the hypergear thread for links to testing, IIRC he tested the TD06SL2 turbine with his SS2 compressor back to back. The TD06SL2-SS2 combo was more responsive than a normal SS2 but made less power. It also is not compatible with an IWG housing (of HG's). The SS2 is honestly a very good choice, I have seen a couple of locally tuned cars which run them (tuned by different tuners) and the results were on par with my expectations. Both cars had above 270kw on 98 and were mostly 'bolt on' packages, meaning I believe with better cooler pipes etc I believe they could have done better. And yeah, don't tell your tuner what it is. Tell him its a 3076R LOL -
Dare I say Stao could make you a .82 housing with a 6 bolt RB flange on the back of it, IWG or EWG.
-
Haha yeah but you do that before you adjust it, then use the dial gauge to adjust it and f**k around, then put it all back together. A bit of a procedure but it will save you taking the pulley off every time to adjust Just use a paint pen to mark the belt and gears before you take them off, should be fine!

Too 20G, Or Not Too 20G, That Is The Question
GTScotT replied to s213b's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
The GTX value is honestly out the window now, I was the last one to nab a deal off them and that was without turbine housing. Bear in mind a GT30 IWG housing is over $500 and the required dump is also not a bolt bolt, so all in all the current HG highflow SMASHES competition for bang for buck. Like FFS it costs $880 and bolts back on exactly where the stock one came off. Cannot be beat! BUT, I don't think the said highflow will do what OP is asking.. -
LOL am not 100% sure about this but I THINK you can remove the rear dust cover which will give you access while your working. Then mark the belt and the gears after its all timed right and reassemble. I have not tried this personally, am just going off my knowledge of what the motor looks like as you pull it apart.
-
There are bolts on the back of the gear, its adjustable just like an actual adjustable camgear is.
-
The stock intake gear is adjustable. I recommend you contact Camtech and ask them where peak lift should lie for each cam. You can then get a degree wheel and dial them in.
-
Cashed in on the MTQ GTX sale, now have a GTX3071 and will be installing over the next couple of weeks. Picking it up tonight to start rigging it up.
-
I think that's his VNT thing. Looking forward to seeing the dyno sheet, I sold my SS1PU recently.
-
Make sure your cams have been dialed to the lobe centre Camtech recommend. I recently had an issue with their product where they admitted to me that they grind as close to the stock base circle as possible, and that it is the customers responsibility to dial the cam. Camtech cams are NOT drop in.

Too 20G, Or Not Too 20G, That Is The Question
GTScotT replied to s213b's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
IIRC ARTZ 20G 10cm stopped at 300rwkw? That's stock manifold, EWG and on ethanol. I have always been a die hard SL2 20G fan but I have to agree that it does not seem up to the task you are asking. For your targets I believe you should set your 'rule of thumb' at a '300kw' turbo. That being a turbo that is known as capable of producing 300rwkw on 98. Suggestions for achieving that result are as follows: - Hypergear SS2 IWG or EWG - T67 (TD06SL2 25G) EWG - PTE 5858 EWG - GTX3071 IWG or EWG - GT3076 IWG or EWG The above list is compiled in order of bang for buck. I am not here to bully you into defying your tuner but that first option should really shine at you. Stao can produce the turbo as a full bolt on and you would only need to change the rear adapter plate (not the whole rear housing) if you wanted to convert it to external gate with 3" V band outlet. I doubt Stao would charge much at all, meaning trying the IWG stock manifold first is minimal risk in terms of $$ exposure. I hope this helps. -
LOL I guess we can talk about ECU's after the worst happens, if you prefer. The general consensus on anti-surge is that you don't need or want it. Factual evidence to its pro's and con's are not readily available, but I believe the aforementioned is the opinion of most. Be it myself I would be confident that a TD05H 18G 10cm would not necessitate an antisurge housing on an RB25. However, it should be noted that while an 18G flows a few pound less than a 20G, an EVO 3 spec 16G6 flows only 1lb/min (10hp rule of thumb) than a 20G, and is a perfect match for the TD05H turbine. SO, again, be it myself I would be opting for the below unit in a 10cm (RB25, use 8 for 20) as the replacement to a highflow: http://shopping.kinugawaturbo.com/kinugawaturbochargerbolt-on24inchesnissanskylinerb20detrb25dettd05h-16g8cm10cm.aspx
