I honestly have to say my opinion is the combination of the 6boost and a healthy motor. Simons motor does not show any signs of sloppy valve springs which I think are the main contender in limiting an RBs power development. I ditched my RB for this exact reason, I knew it was fine as a factory motor but also knew it was anyones guess how it would handle over 300rwkw. I am, however, dubious of the benefit of the forward facing plenum.. Yet wont knock it either.

Garett Gt2860R-5 Vs Gt2860Rs-5 (Disco Potato)
GTScotT replied to Carthik's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
AFAIK they are the same turbo, your right on the specs aspect of it. The differences, as mentioned, are the housings. The disco is made for a generic application which uses hoses and clamps for its intake side, where as the -5s will literally BOLT IN to factory position on the GTR. You can litterally bolt them onto a stock car without changing a single bolt else. Do the research first and make sure the -5s are the turbo for you, but do not go for the "disco" version as that will cost you an all out arm and a leg to get onto the car for almost zero gain. -
I have said across many threads that a Hypergear unit will save the majority of entry level modifiers an all out packet. I know they are excellent value, and I know they work well. If you read back my previous posts in this thread, I do not have an RB motor and do not need the specially designed RB outlet flange, my comments on price are based on a generic unit supplied by Hypergear and not the specific items made for skylines. If I still punted an RB then I would happily own a hypergear turbo at the said $1450 for an SS-1. Stao, $1200 is a good price and I will keep it in mind, Thanks.

240rwkw from a 3071 is not surprising, Garretts are a mixed bag to begin with.. Always hit and miss on results. A Hit 3071 is 290rwkw, a miss is 240rwkw. Hit 3076 300rwkw, miss 270rwkw.
-
WTF SIF plot so close to a 3071R?! HUH?!
-
Kando does internally gated evo turbos also for under 1000 delivered... Using a genuine MHI housing. Original pricing closer to the 1000 mark was a great factor for Stao, but recent hikes up to Garrett comparison are warding me off. I still think it is an excellent product, but pricing has become ultimately competetive of late and everyone needs to keep up if they want to stay a float.
-
$10 says the housing is identical in size to yours Simon. That would mean its profiled for a 61mm wheel when the garrett item is 60mm.. I would be both dubious and highly intrigued! lol
-
Honestly I would happily own one of your SS-1 but am trying to avoid spending 1500 when kando dynamic are doing theirs for under a thousand. Dump pipe bolt pattern doesn't matter to me, as long ad it is t3 and internal gate.
-
My issue is the turbo's I want are externally gated, and I do not want the hassle of using an external gate.. I want to run T3 internal gate. Im not sure what you could do in this regard.. My issue is mainly the external gated rear housing.. What about if you were to mod my rear housing to hang a gate off it? Could you supply the gate too? At what price?
-
So if I supply just the CHRA you will send it back with a T3 .64 rear housing and your .60 front cover for $400? or it that price for rear housing only? and does it include the actuator?
-
Stao do you have any results of ATR43G1 on RB25??? I would be VERY interested to see. And how much would you charge to mate your .60 and .64 housings to a CHRA I supply? I want to use a MHI TD06SL2 20G core with internal gate housings. Can you state the price for front and rear housings machined to suit. Thanks,

Cant Get More Than 315Kw Atw
GTScotT replied to s13_Skyline_inside's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
God honestly.. If you havent fixed this yet and HONESTLY cannot afford the 6boost buy this: http://gcg.com.au/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=584&category_id=29&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=101 -
Stao what sort of results would you expect from your SS-1 at 14psi, and can you build a 'smaller' turbo into a T3 housing? Perhaps 2871 52t spec into your .64 housing with 3 nozzle FNT tech + your .60 3" comp cover, do able?
-
A friend has a blitz rom and is running 17psi, so the 14psi limit is just the stock ECU doing its thing (im fairly sure). My mines ECU should be mapped beyond 14psi. Man I really dont have the patience for the stock twins lol... I want them off and I want a good internal gate single on there from word go.... F*k that for a joke lol.
-
Zeb Im honestly trying to get my car track worthy as quickly as possible with what Ive already got.. My JZ came with a Mines rom (suit stock setup) and Im counting on the blessing of the map sensor to be flexible enough up to my injectors limits. If Kando would hurry up with this rumoured IW T3 8cm 20g I would be pretty happy.... But for now I cannot be bothered exploring the world of external gate for nothing. I would rather cut off my flange and refix a T2 item so I can get an off the shelf garrett 2871 52t and achieve the fabled HKS GTRS results for a pitence. Realistically I cant be stuffed buying injectors and doing a tuned ecu plus external gate setup for SFA more speed in the forums I will entertain and the cost in the range of an additional 3k... Im pretty sure I can get the car to go as fast as I want it to with under 250rwkw. I have seen EK civics with ordinary B18 swaps lap Wakefield in 1.06s, sub 100kw N14 pulsars doing it in 1.10s etc.. I dont need 350rwkw, but yeah it would be nice. I calculate I need about 180rwkw/t and a good powerband. I see your point about your old setup.. But my last car being an Evo has made it endlessly difficult to give up the game lol

My 2c worth on the plenum is that Nissan would do a better job than just some low cost manufacturer. No one has really noted overly impressive results for changing to forward facing plenums not have they for going to the GTR ITB's... Be it myself I would retain the factory plenum at all costs. Plumbing is longer but what harm can a little more cold side volume do? Hinder spool but probably net you better torque, while the longer runners of the factory plenum are also going to work towards getting you spool AND more torque. All in all more torque more torque more torque, its a losing battle and you already have the thing setup right.. Leave it be and put your money into a good set of cams and those valve springs. When E85 rolls out in full I would recommend you take that up too. Who knows, maybe I will ditch my fight for spool and join you all at 350+rwkw, these turbos seem the GOODS.
-
Sounds nice driving OMY31T, do you find its a lot better on and off throttle than your garrett was? Glad you sound happy with the move over though. As stated dont cane it till its fully tuned etc. What are you doing with your old garrett? I need something internal gate and T3 for the mean time

Fs- Garrett Gt3076R 0.63 A/r
GTScotT replied to WARDY32's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
Are YOU aware that 3037 confirms that it is the HKS spec 3076 and not the garbage garrett version from many years ago? Do some reading please. Good item & good price, goodluck with sale buddy. -
HKS T2 flanged housings, GCG stock them.

Well exhaust side the disco is identical to a GTRS, same size same trim same ex housing, so really it shouldnt. The plan is see how it is combined with my Mines tuned rom and if not happy get the front wheel changed to the 52t GT35 item and do the ecu and USDM supra injectors. Well see how it pans out, Im anticipating the disco itself will be good on high boost (230ish rwkw).
-
Lol I felt the same way till I took my stock twins off 2 weeks ago..... Power to weight I want as absolute much zing as I can for under 250rwkw, the stock twins are linear in feel and dont provide the rip their peak output might imply (not saying they are shit just saying I want something else). Going TD06 or GT30 turbines are just going to flow plenty and see good numbers. Using a smaller comp wheel will see boost on early (20g or GT35) yet is still going to have that dull 500hp feel. At the moment im leaning towards a T2 framed turbo and am going to pretend I have an SR with 25% more flow capacity. I should have a disco potato in my hands soon which im planning to use as the base (if not final) for my setup. I questioned the thought of going T2 base yet then remembered the fact that flow=flow regardless of how many cylinders are flowing it. GTR's use -10s for something like 500kw and most of the big HKS twin kits for the GTR are also T2 based (twin 2835etc) so I dont see a problem. I was seconds from purchasing an SL2 20G when the all out response bug bit again lol
