  1. When I had mine turbocharging was unheard of. I fitted a modified L28 engine with 240Z carb's and it went very well after that . After I got tired of carbs I fitted it with a hybrid EFI system using cheap (at the time) D-jet system parts....but that's a fair bit of work. It's possible to fit aftermarket cams to the stock L24 and get some improvement, but in the end the L24S is severely restricted by it's intake ports, valve sizes and relatively low CR. I suppose turbo-charging is an option, but personally I wouldn't bother as it's possible to drop in an RB20DET relatively cheaply - probably cheaper than modifying an L24 to do the job properly. I think it's been discussed before, so suggest doing a search in the first instance. Another option is L28 turbo, but finding the parts is an issue.
  2. Left one is the HICAS controller, middle is the active speaker amplifier for the rear speakers. Not sure about the right.
  3. C210 Skyline. Had one exactly like it many years ago. Quite good cars compared with what was available from Ford/Holden at the time. Possibly a little cramped inside, but well fitted out. IMHO the model was let down badly by the engine (carb'd....L24S), which was underpowered and performance suffered particularly as an auto. Manuals were a bit better. All-in-all good, solid cars, but benefit greatly from a power upgrade. Steering is another weak area being recirc ball with many links in the system.
  4. I've used Princo's an Ritek's and never had a problem with either. We go through a LOT of DVD-R's at work and lately we've had a preference for Ritek's.
  5. From your description of being behind the lower control arm it sounds like a tie-rod end. Does it move when you turn the steering wheel (ie as the wheels move) ?? Alternatively, if you follow it inboard do you see a rubber boot that looks like a bellows ??
  6. The CAS is from an R34 - call R34's seem to use the same CAS part number. OTOH, the harness PN is from an R32 GTR 8/89 to 8/91. The R32 CAS harness connector will not fit the mating connector on the R34 CAS - I'm assuming that's your problem (??)
  7. Yes they are.
  8. Pistons are sold as a balanced set, as are rods. But manufacturing tolerances for balancing on mass produced engines are not as tight as you would use for a performance/race engine.....again mainly for reasons of cost.
  9. Manufacturing (machining) variations - even on a supposedly symmetrical component. While it's theoretically possible to get very tight tolerances using the best equipment, the cost would be prohibitive. Metallurgical variations would be insignificant in this context (for a component machined from plate/billet...castings can be another matter).
  10. If you can supply me some more exact details of the parts you need I can check FAST to see if they are the same. Ideally need VIN numbers for the cars the parts/gearboxes are from, or at least a year of manufacture. I realise this is probably not possible for the RB25DET trans as being in the US I suspect you bought the gearbox from an importer (??).
  11. Greg - the way it's normally done is: - check run-out prior to balance (flywheel and fitted pressure plate). - balance flywheel and pressure plate separately - balance flywheel and pressure plate as an assembly. It's quite normal to drill the outside of the flywheel to remove material to achieve balance. They obviously followed their usual practice and just weren't aware of the significance of the counterweight. At the end of the day I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.
  12. I think you need to look at what the serious GTR drag racers use. I suspect they use the standard case but with strengthened internals.....or change over to some sort of mega-buck trans which comes as a complete unit. The stock GTR trans uses a cast casing, but despite that I think it would take a lot to break it and, at least theoretically, the more ribs the better. At the end of the day it will depend on how deep your pockets are.....
  13. 3 big problems: - bell housing bolt pattern is different. - VG30DE/TT trans use a remote shifter arrangement quite unlike the RB25DET gearbox. Probably a major headache to get to work in any car other than a Z32. - starter motor bolts to the side of the bell-housing and faces in the reverse direction to the RB2x arrangement. At the very least trans tunnel clearance would be an issue. I'm sure it can be done - anything can be given sufficient $$$ - but I'd strongly suggest investigating what's needed very carefully.
  14. Don't know who led you to believe that.....R32 GTS4 gearbox has the same ID as the R32 GTR gearbox - FS5R30A. I have also confirmed using FAST that the same gears are used in each gearbox.....so they are nominally the same strength. But yes, RB25 turbo gearbox is very similar to the GTR/GTS4 type in terms of strength.
  15. I had a thought last night - perhaps your thinking of the R32 GTS4 gearbox (??). If that's the case then the answer is that the gearbox used in those cars is more-or-less identical to the R32 GTR type in terms of gear strength, etc.
  16. UAS sell a heavy duty one for $55: http://www.nismo.com.au/pricelists/priceli...ylineclutch.htm (scroll down). Otherwise Nissan as suggested or perhaps secondhand.
  17. They are most definately not the same. RB26 gb is more-or-less the same as an RB25DET gb in terms of gear size, etc. RB20 gb is smaller in all respects and gear strength is less.
  18. Yep, z's have rubbers. I have a soft spot for Jag's, leaks an' all.....a V12 at speed is an amazing ride (E-type or XJ).
  19. Removing/replacing windscreens in old Jag's put me off that job for life, although I did do the front and rear in my Z some years back.
  20. Aerpro make a couple of 'internal' antennas that will do the job.....each costs about $20. One can be attached to the rear demister grid which is pretty much how the stock R32 antenna works (but built into the front windscreen, of course).
  21. Presumably that's trade ??....anyway National W/screens are by far the cheapest out of about 6 I rang today, $195 fitted on site.
  22. Thanks for the replies. A quick ring around shows the cheapest to be $265 from instant windscreens. O'briens want $307. I'll try a few others. That's fitted on site, but for a windscreen without ariel. They all suggested gebuine was the only option if I wanted to keep the in-built ariel. I had a vague memory of another company on the eastern suburbs that others had used....if only the search function was working properly. Cheers
  23. Sometime ago there was discussion about a recommended windscreen replacer in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne (I think). I did a search but that was useless (it's broke ). Anyway I need a replacement for the GTR and would like to hear any recommendations. TIA
