HKS GT3037S and Wastegate
EVOIV replied to EVOIV's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
GR8NES: The turbos are the same, except the the compressor trim. With one being 56T and the other 52T. I am not sure whether this can be changed, because I don't think you can buy the compressor trims separate. I heard that HKS don't deal with repairs and the likes because it's very difficult to repair and balance their turbos. But Garrett are more willing to help. -
HKS GT3037S and Wastegate

Nah Hiep, that would be way too laggy for a street car. Like probably no boost below 6000rpm Hey, are you at work today? Going to the AutoSalon? -
HKS GT3037S and Wastegate
EVOIV replied to EVOIV's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
Just an update, I actually have 2 GT3037S turbos. One with a 56T trim, the other with a 52T trim. At the moment, the 52T trim turbo is damaged - turbine wheel needs replacing. I am going to send this turbo to Garrett in Sydney to see if it can be repaired. If so, I will sell one of the turbos but not sure at what price, it depends how much it costs me to fix. I am not sure if I will sell the wastegate as well, because I may decide to keep this. So most probably the turbo will be the only thing for sale. I have a pic of it if anyone is interested, but I don't know how to post pics on this forum? People interested can email me at: [email protected] Once again, be reminded that I won't know a price until it's repaired, IF it can be repaired that is. Ball bearing turbos, as you might be aware, are quite difficult to fix. But if you email me, I can send you a pic of the turbo. -
Hehe...no, that is when the car started boosting. I might not be accurate, but boost probably came on a little earlier than 3500rpm. You could probably hit 1bar boost around 4000rpm, maybe just after. No internal mods were done to the engine. But if you had the $$$, you could buy longer duration and higher lift cams and cam gears and that would make the car make boost a little earlier. Really, if you want the best out of a big turbo you should run highish boost. Although HKS and Garrett turbos are similar, it's been stated that Garrett turbos are more efficient at lower boost (under 1bar), whereas HKS turbos are most efficient at high boost (1.5bar). So it's best doing internals when making the most out of an HKS (or any other large) turbo.

The T04R is a huge turbo and you would expect a lot of lag but huge top end. That's pretty good performance from a TD06. What other mods have you done? Running high boost?
-
I used to run my HKS GT3037S turbo on a 2L and I can tell you that it is quite laggy. Not much boost was made until after 3500rpm. The turbo is quite "smallish" in that it has a 0.6A/R compressor housing and a small 0.73A/R exhaust housing. Which is on the smaller scale of the GT3037S turbos. They can go over 1.0 A/R for the exhaust housing. The power was good though, making 206kW@four wheels at 1.2bar. This was on my EVO4. For street use, I wouldn't go any larger than the GT3037S. Remember that the TRUST turbos are normal bearing and so will have more lag than the equivalent HKS turbo. I think the GT3240 is the largest BB turbo HKS makes? The larger turbos are all normal bearing like the TRUST ones.

RB20DET KW's Per Litre is Better than RB25DET? Why?
EVOIV replied to Cubes's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Actually, everyone knows that the 206kW figure of the GTR RB26 engines are not true. I have read that it's more like 220kW. -
I would sell the r33 and get the r32 or 180. I think the r33 is a little too heavy to drift, like the GTRs. You really need a lighter car, and the silvia series are supposed to be the "classic" drifter. But the r32 I've heard is also good cos it's lighter. Most drift cars I suspect would use lots of negative camber and rock hard coil over suspension? I don't think that's really useable as a daily driver, so there would have to be a compromise.
-
I would rather pay a bit more money and get a decent FMIC or a second hand one. I don't think there's much point in upgrading to a slightly larger side mounter cooler, cos that is going to restrict u in the long run anyway. You could probably run 1-2psi higher? How much more power is that going to achieve? 5kW@engine at most???

Must say, that's one sweet looking 4door R34...but I still reckon a Chaser looks better. More style

Power lost from engine to wheels
EVOIV replied to skylineakt's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Which doesn't make sense. Because a GTR with 2 wheels spinning on a 2WD dyno makes the same power with 4 wheels spinning. So, when it's AWD the GTR miraculously makes double the power? Because it's the same power each time. Anyone explain? -

Thanks for the info. on the supercharger vs turbocharger. I didn't really know how the supercharger worked..but thanks for the enlightenment, which makes sense why turbos are more common for power upgrades. But I still am a little confused as to why a GTR with 2 wheels spinning on a dyno gives the same reading as the same car with 4 wheels spinning on a 4WD dyno. The physics of it just doesn't make sense? Weird...oh well. Just shows that GTR is king!!! -
Strawberry Face 180 or R33 GTSt series II?
EVOIV replied to strange's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
I'd go for a late model 180 (1996+) with the black rocker cover SR20. Then do a s15 front end conversion, black out the round tail lights. Put a nice bodykit, or even better a widebody kit on it. Slam it to the ground on 18s and it'll look lurv-e-ly!! You can't beat the look Except maybe a damn nice looking chaser. I feel that the R33 is too big a car to really get around. But then again, the interior of the 180s REALLY suck!! I would rip out the front two seats and replace them with Bride Seats. Also you can change the steering wheel and gear knob, but I don't know how much you can do about the dash...because they are pretty old looking. Maybe get a dash off the s15? They're nice! And I'm pretty sure it would fit without too much hassles. -
Power lost from engine to wheels
EVOIV replied to skylineakt's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Sheesh! That's some serious stuff!!! I'm guessing you'd soil your pants too when behind the wheel of one? Just a question, why a supercharger? What are the benefits of that over a turbo? I know that superchargers have less (or no) lag cos they don't use exhaust gases to spool them up. But why is it that nowadays the turbo seems more popular than the supercharger? Anyone? -
Power lost from engine to wheels

9000hp cars!! Is that even possible? Unless we're talking about jets here and not cars? I thought Japan would be one of the best for high hp cars, and I thought the max would be around 1500hp. No where near 9000hp!? -
To me, chasers are the best 4door vehicles. The 4door skylines look a little funny, especially the R34. I actually prefer the R33 four doors, they look pretty cool - different. Then of course you have the rexs and EVOs
-
$35k aint too bad for a 1996 chaser. Seems very tempting. They look beautiful, go well and are so unique. Hardly any in OZ I bet!! Kinda like a pimp car with go Sorta reminds me of the M3.

Power lost from engine to wheels
EVOIV replied to skylineakt's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Hmm...interesting figures there. It's kinda weird cos one time I saw a figure of an R34GTR that was dynoed as RWD and AWD and the readouts were the same!??? I don't know... -
Power lost from engine to wheels
EVOIV replied to skylineakt's topic in General Automotive Discussion
I still think 20% to 30% is a little too big. Hiep: At one stage my car had 206kW@4wheels, but that power was recorded on a dyno (at the wheels). To record power at the engine, you would need to take the engine out I believe? If I account for a 30% loss, that makes it around 290kW@engine. Almost 400hp. -
Power lost from engine to wheels
EVOIV replied to skylineakt's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Well when I first had my EVO4 dynoed on an AWD dyno, it only put 123kW@wheels on 11psi. Then on 16psi is pumped out 155kW@wheels. Seeing that a standard EVO4 is supposed to have 206kW@engine, which I'm pretty sure mine didn't...it's still a huge power loss. For RWD cars, I'm not sure. But again it depends on temperature as well, cos at the time it was at the beginning of the year and the weather was still pretty hot. I'm sure a few more kW could be had on cooler weather. -
Power lost from engine to wheels
EVOIV replied to skylineakt's topic in General Automotive Discussion
But how many skylines actually have that amount of power? Brand new, yeah. But after a few years, things don't work as well, rotating parts don't spin as fast and make as much power...etc. Hiep: Nah, I'm pretty sure that a RWD loses no more than 15%. Some people say AWD lose more like 25%. Damn I want a chaser!! How much are they? $50k? Too much!!! -
Gotta say that that Chaser with the R34 GTR rims is lurvely!! Can anyone import them? I guess they would be pretty expensive, like $50,000 mark? I'd love to get my hands on one.

Power lost from engine to wheels
EVOIV replied to skylineakt's topic in General Automotive Discussion
With those G-Techs it's important to get the weight and other factors correct. But even so, they aren't that accurate. A dyno is the only sure way, but even still...different dynos on different days will give different results. I have heard that the power lost from the engine to wheels is about 15% on a RWD car. On an AWD it's a bit more, like 20% or even more. There has always been a lot of debate about this. Whether it's a certain %, and if so what %? Or is it a fixed amount of power and not a %? I don't really know if anyone really knows? -
Dream on Hiep Anyway, I'd love to go to Japan and hopefully one day I will.

I think the V/R35 doesn't look that great. I reckon the 3- fitty Z looks a lot better.
