SAU help required to gain entry into HARDCORE 4WD competition
zzzz replied to zzzz's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Hi Dreamer, Competition experience to date is none 4wd experience to date is loads and loads on the hardest tracks and areas we can find in victoria. Our first competition is actually Woodpecker that is on the 28th November, couple of ours north west of Sydney. Check this site out if you want to see that one: http://www.orp.com.au/Wood%20Pecker%20Chal...enge%20Info.htm Video of last years Woodpecker event: http://www.orp.com.au/Untitled.wmv The 2001 and 2002 winners trucks are very very good. However the jeep my mate has built is on virtually even footing. They all have their strengths and weaknesses and it will come down to the event to see how we go. Definitely make an effort to get to Tufftruck as it will be huge Thanks for the support. z -
******************************************************************************** ******************* Vote 1 Team FIRETRUCK for Tuff Truck 2005 Hello SAU members, I am writing this post to try and gain the support of the SAU community to get Team FIRETRUCK into the most hard core 4x4 competition in Australia. Tuff Truck 2005 - http://www.tufftruck.com.au The FIRETRUCK is a highly modified Jeep Wrangler designed to drive the tuffest terrain that can found. The jeep and is owned by my best mate Shane and I will be his trusty co-driver. I realise this is not a skyline or performance street car but I am sure there are some people on here interested in four wheel drives, and any motorsport enthusiants would be well advised to check out this growing new sport. Entry into the event is based on 'popular vote'... so you nominate yourself, but then to compete you have to be in the top 30 as voted by the public. You can only vote by buying 4x4 AUSTRALIA magazines and sending in the official voting form from the magazine. The voting will only be over the next few months, and of course there is only 1 voting form per magazine. So get to it! Don't leave it till the last minute. The first of the voting forms is on page 22 of this month's edition (December edition). If you only buy 3 magazines this year, make them this one... and get your votes in. Each form has room for to vote for 3 teams. Here is how I would recommend you to vote: Vote 1. Team #6, Team FIRETRUCK Vote 2. Team #2, Cheezy Racing Vote 3. Team #12, Team Suburban For the number 2 and 3 spots feel free to pick other teams that you like from the web site if you prefer. More info on the event, when, where, and the competitors is here: http://www.tufftruck.com.au/ The event is well sponsored and there are some pretty significant cash (and other) prizes on offer. There will also be plenty of camera crews and photographers on hand and there will be a DVD of the event available sometime after the dust has settled, as well as a special edition magazine. Keep an eye on the news stands as there will be articles in other 4x4 magazines in the coming months on the FIRETRUCK - I will circulate a message when these things pop up. Also, check out television channel 31 in Victoria every Thursday night at 7:00pm for 4wd TV. There has already been an interview and feature on the FIRETRUCK aired and we are expected to have another feature as soon as we can get the cameras out to our hardcore testing area. (In Brisbane 4wd TV airs Tuesday nights at 8:30pm on channel Briz31). http://www.4wdtv.com.au/ Your support in helping us push the FIRETRUCK to the absolute limits is very much appreciated. Feel free to forward this message to your friends, family, pets, etc. Oh, and if there are any crazy corporate folk out there looking for a Jeep to sponsor in a high profile event, please send cash (or send Shane an email)!! Regards, Shane and Zach (Team FIRETRUCK). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ** Vote 1 Team FIRETRUCK for Tuff Truck 2005 ** (team #6) ** Voting in 4x4 Australia magazine ** Check out the FIRETRUCK here (go to candidate’s page): http://www.tufftruck.com.au -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

r33 gtst for girlfriend, am I mad??
zzzz replied to zzzz's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
thanks for all the advice. the wet road thing is definitely something to look out for, but I know that it is a matter of learning to drive the new car, and adjusting to the road conditions. She can do that fine - anyone can if it is drilled into them enough times. I appreciate all of the honest answers - that's all I was looking for, some personal first hand experience from all of you guys that drive the cars day in day out. I have weighed up the options and will be looking for a R33 - gtst auto, which I believe will be easy for her to drive and also fun for me when I want to go a bit quicker. Maybe later on if I can work out a way to fit an engine management system or EBC that can have different power profiles, I will go and mod the crap out of it Very hard to resist the urge of the dark side -

Strich, I have gotten all the advice I was looking for not including your post, but thanks for personal abuse anyways. Think about it for a second. If I was captain soft**** I would of bought her a nice shiny new beetle, or some other expensive cute little convertible. Why the hell would I buy my gf a skyline unless that is exactly what she wanted. I am buying it for me you smacktard...that is why I am trying to work out whether I can get away with her driving it 90% of the time without writing it off. If I can, then that is cool, because not only do I have my jeep which is my play vehicle, but I also end up with a skyline that I can drive on weekends or long trips. My jeep is not driveable for long distances and is basically built specifically for rock crawling and hardcore offroad stuff. A skyline will be my second car, which also happens to be my gf's daily driver as she needs a car for everyday use. Anyways - pointless fawking internet debates aside, unless you have something to actually add apart from abuse then you can keep it to yourself. Or just post it up, whatever makes you feel better. -

thanks to the people, calling me soft and telling me to make her buy her own car. Very constructive, where do you get off thinking you know a thing about my life? perhaps she put $10k towards the car and I am paying the rest? perhaps she has $50k to put towards a house deposit she doesn't want to spend on a car? perhaps I owe her a bunch of money and she would rather a car? perhaps you should stfu unless you have something worthwhile to add to the conversation, and stop guessing about my circumstance. Why can't I buy whatever fawkin car I want for her? What do you care what I do with my money. Great to see all internet forums are basically the same... My jeep would be harder to drive in the wet than most any skyline I would think and she manages that just fine, so I am not overly concerned, just wanted to hear peoples opinions. If I am going to be paying for a second car - which she would happen to drive more than me - then I want it to be fun, not this crappy mirage. I believe after the advice I have gotten off here, I will find a couple to drive and see if she thinks she can drive it day to day. If not I will go and buy something else. thanks for the advice... -

Haha - normal for a lot of girls is what I meant. Apologies if that offends anyone, and there are a heap of terrible drivers out there, male or female. Auto is the go as that is what she wants and she is the one driving it the most. just as long as they don't suck compared to the manual. Not worried about guys trying to pick her up. She has been driving my jeep for a couple of years and trust me on this one, she gets a lot of attention driving that. Funny thing is any time I/she drives the it somewhere like chapel street, everyone stares at the jeep more than all the hotted up cars. Guess no on expects to see a big filthy 4wd down there. hehe. Kia Carnivale (or something) added for size reference thanks for all the replies - I will definitely research some more and see if I can fine a relatively stock, R33 GTST auto in melb. cheers z -

thanks for the quick replies. All positive so far. Not looking to trade her in, but if someone was offering a worked gtr, hmmm. She is not the best driver out there. Constantly talking on phone, doing nails, fishing around for things in her handbag, etc. just normal. Most concerned about her, "putting her foot down" in the wet to sneak past someone at the lights or something and then getting out of control. Think I really need to take her out for a spin and see if she likes how one drives and if she thinks she can handle it. Are the auto's harder to find than manual? How hard is it to find as close to stock as possible or are they all modded heaps? I would prefer stock as can be. They seem very good value for money considering what $15-20k buys in other cars. -
Hi there, I know relatively little about nissan skylines compared to all of the forum members, but I do know what I like I am currently thinking of selling my crappy mitsubishi mirage that my girlfriend drives all the time and buying a r33 or r32 gtst skyline. I already have a play car which is a jeep which is highlymodified and I take four wheel driving every second weekend or so. This is the money pit, and therefore I can't afford to spend heaps on the skyline if I get one. Basically just a few cosmetic changes and maybe an exhaust system. I would only drive it on weekends occasionally and on long trips for holiday/weekends away. The rest of the time my girlfriend would get to drive it as her daily driver as she needs a car to get to work and back. I catch public transport into the city. Questions as follows: Would my gf be fine driving it everyday? Would she have issues with the power? etc. Is there anyway to have an aftermarket ECU that could be programmed with different power levels. I could leave it slow for her, and then turn it up for some fun. I would prefer an auto - any problems with these? power loss etc. Are they a reliable option as a day to day vehicle or should I just go and look at a boring old corolla, pulsar, insert brand here? Average insurance cost for a basically stock gtst? 29 years old, inner melb, loan, etc. just an idea would be good. How are they for headroom? I am 6'5" and haven't had a sit in one at all... Many more q's but I am going to spend a heap of time reading the forums for those answers. cheers z
