I agree ... not a fan at all.

I know the weight is similar ... the biggest wow factor with the GT-R has been that it can do what it does despite the weight. I suppose it would be theoretically possible for an HSV to achieve similar things but this is a car that started life as an Omega ... it's never going to lap any circuit at the sort of pace that a GT-R can. I just don't think the 427 is going to do anything (in day to day type driving) that our GTS with exhaust / OTR / suspension / tune (260rwkw) can't do, and our GTS has cost about $80K all up. It won't be able to do what a GT-R can do when driven in anger and it won't really achieve much more than a regular GTS every other day ... just seems to have negatives no matter which way you look at it.

Absolutely right ... the GTS is more than fast enough for what we use it for. If you are after an all out sports car there are MUCH smarter choices than a 7 litre 4 door sedan ... it just doesn't make sense to spend that much money on a compromised sports car ( ... this coming from an die hard HSV fan ). The size that it is, it can never expect to compete with cars like the GT-R in terms of performance. People will argue what I argued a few posts up ... "it can carry the whole family etc. etc." ... but so can a Clubbie or a GTS and they are a hell of a lot cheaper and not all that much slower !!! Just doesn't make sense to me. I might pick one up when they are 2 years old and have depreciated 40%.

I don't think they are going down the wrong track ... if you are after a car that is all out performance then yes, a big heavy 4 door sedan is not ideal. HSV is all about making the big sedan about as performance oriented as it can get. I love our V8s (I have 3 of them !!!), they are bloody quick, very comfortable, look great (IMO anyway) and more than enough room to load up the family, fill up the boot and head off on holidays. They are sensational highway cars, overtake with ease, cruise at 100 km/h with less than 2000 rpm on the clock and bucket loads of torque ready to get you moving when you need to ... and the kids can sit in the back and watch a DVD. Now clearly something that is designed to do all this is never going to be able to do what a GT-R can do ... but a GT-R couldn't take me and the family on holidays comfortably either. Very different cars with very different roles to play ... personally, I love all of them.

I was going to put a link up to that thread ... I have been a member on LS1 for almost 4 years and have owned 4 HSVs and heaps of Holdens. I currently have a SS-V, an E Series GTS and a heavily modified HSV Coupe 4 that has recently run a 10.982 @ 124 mph down the qtr on street tyres. I think it's fair to say that I am a die hard a Holden / HSV fan ... but that doesn't mean I think everything else is crap. Most members on LS1 give credit where it's due, there have even been threads on the Typhoon that have been mostly positive !!! You get the tools ... but every forum has them. I have placed a deposit on an R35 as quite simply it looks to be the best sports car ever made for the money. I will still own Holdens, especially as we have 2 young kids and need a sedan with room for the whole family ... but no Commodore will ever be able to do what the GT-R can do. I think the fact that several LS1 members have placed a deposit on a GT-R ... and several others are seriously considering it ... shows just what sort of impact the release of the GT-R has had.

"Godzilla" started with the R32 ... however every model since has been referred to as Godzilla also. Wheels magazine came up with the title when the R32 was released and they have already used it in relation to the R35 ... so I think it's OK.

I did consider that ... it's too tame, too old man, not "Godzilla" enough. Maybe next time.

I very nearly ordered exactly those plates ... but changed my mind and ordered these instead; GDZLA Got them in storage for now.

Exciting stuff ... the dark / gunmetal grey is what I want ... hope we get the full range of colours to choose from. I wonder when Nissan Australia will be able to release details ?

I'm not fat / bald or middle aged ... and I can't wait to get mine. You will find that this car is good enough to steal sales from the likes of the BMW M3 and other premium sports cars. I don't think the people buying this car will be doing so to try and pretend that they "rule the road" ... that's more the domain of the young and stupid. This car will be bought by successful people with a passion for motoring ... I'd bet many have never owned a Nissan before (I haven't). The R35 has enough room for my wife and the kids and has an extremelly usable boot. It's completely practical and an absolute weapon that can be taken on track days and will kill almost anything else out there in factory form. I'm buying it for the complete package that it is, and no other reason.

I did just that ... 2 months ago. RS4 is an awesome car, I just couldn't quite bring myself to buy something that conservative in appearance ... it would be like admitting I'm getting older. BTW ... I had to put down $2,500.

I put down $2,500 ... basically an open order, details to be confirmed. As for the toys, I work around 70 hours a week, I have my own business so I'm not on a wage. Everything I earn goes to me. I have also had luck with investments over the years ... and to top it off, I have an understanding wife that doesn't mind me spending money on the cars. The GTS is hers ... dual 3 inch exhaust, CAI and tune ... 265 rwkw. It gets the kids to school really fast.

Deposit was placed with Nissan Hornsby. I have read a 3 month wait in Japan, no idea what is correct though. At this stage I have no idea what the wait will be, but I put the deposit down a few days after the car was released in Japan, so hopefully whenever they arrive, I'll get one of the first. I hope ...

It is a Coupe 4 ... and it has a turbo, rather large one too. Has a few other changes too ... pretty much everything actually. 376 awkw ... 11.300 @ 121 mph. Here is a dyno run ...

Thanks mate ... you're right. I'm a Holden man through and through, below is my garage as it sits today; I have placed a deposit with Nissan for an R35 as I think it's pretty much the ultimate car. I have posted this fact on the LS1 forum and haven't seen many disagree with me. Basically all the Holden nuts are agreeing, this car is absolutely sensational. That doesn't mean that Holden's don't have their merits ... that are bloody good cars in a lot of ways.

Work damn hard ... that's how I can afford it.

The videos are great ... the hi-res pics when it was first released started it all off, the more I see the better it looks. It is a long wait though, I just hope I don't overhype it and get disappointed when it arrives ... I gotta say, based on the video in this thread, I think that's pretty unlikely.

Don't be too cocky ... I've got one that does an 11.300 ET on street tyres @ street pressure (obviously not stock). No way would it stay with an R35 around corners, but I'd have it in a straight line.
