Insomnia has been brought up on the "Multivitamins" thread > I'll do my best to answer it here, even though there are many psychological causes as well as biochemical. 1) Insomnia Type I:- where one finds it hard to go off to sleep * l-Tryptophan (S.A.D. powder by Dr Veras) supports serotonin production and is usually taken at night for the very reason that it can cause a soporific effect. It must be taken away from protein foods or protein supplements eg megamass etc or other amino acids like Tyrosine, Carnitine or Creatine. Why? Because amino acids like tryptophan need to get across the blood-brain barrier unhindered, and other aminos will dilute the tryptophan down. A giveaway marker is RLS or worry or passive/aggressive behaviour patterns or being quite competitive in nature or needing alcohol for sleep or needing pot to relax. It therefore should be taken at least 2 hours after dinner or at least 40mins before dinner to aid going off to sleep. It should also be taken with a complex carbohydrate which would facilitate the crossing of the blood-brain barrier. Time of action is from 1-4 nights * Melatonin (Blue Roc brand from Golden Glow is a 5mg sublingual lozenge) is taken an hour or two before bed via sucking under the tongue. A giveaway marker is that if one is prone to jet lag (after east-west or west-east air travel), get this one. Time of action is from 1-2 nights * l-Taurine (Orthoplex Taurine 500mg) is used if one gets agitated easily. It must be taken 2 hours apart from other amino acids; yes even Tryptophan Time of action - maybe a week or two 2) Insomnia Type II:- where one wakes up intermittently and REM sleep gets punctuated * Theanine (by Ultra Theanine 200mg Dr Veras) helps circadian rhythms Time of action about 1 week * Vit B12 taken in daylight hours * GABA (aka Pre GABA by Dr Veras) taken before dinner * Valerian + Hops + Skullcap taken after dinner * Bupleurum (aka Stressan by Metagenics) helps sleep via the liver 3) Insomnia Type III:- where one wakes up too early and can't go off again * Acupuncture via someone who does Traditional Chinese Acupuncture and therefore can diagnose with pulse energy tests across the wrist or ankle > helps with endocrine function, often associated with aging or liver function being at fault

I was wondering if a torso brace was available. A physiotherapist or maybe a chemist that stocks prosthetics would know. At least you could probably still play. Willow bark is available from naturopaths in liquid or tablets (made by Mediherb).

Great to see like minded eager beavers!!! Ta

I can only suggest 2 things which are totally unrelated. Beyond mlr's suggestion of yoga... 1) acupuncture via a sports acupuncturist and 2) taking "Willow Bark" herb Willow Bark does 2 things... I) as nature's aspirin it helps to keep the blood thin and reduce clots and/or ii) act as an anti-inflammatory

Blue Mountains Accomodation: Nice Place To Take The Mrs
GTR-N1 replied to paulR32gtr's topic in New South Wales
Echoes is just a stone's throw from Lilianfels. Views are just as spectacular as Lilianfels if not better. Not as luxurious but I've never heard a bad report. Some of the best walks are nearby. + Walks at end of Govett's Leap Rd Blackheath + National Pass Walk at Wentworth Falls (-my favourite) Mountain bike ride out to Narrow Neck Lookout (via bike hire) is spectacular -

Old Classic:- Clarendon Hotel in Katoomba - Town Centre Spectacular Views:- Lilianfels Blue Mtns Resort in Katoomba - Cliffside 02-47801200 (strongly recommended) Nouveau Riche:- Chez Terry where your wife (according to the title "Nice Place To Take The Mrs") can be pampered to her heart's content. However, you can stay outside and keep the dog warm. -
Lleyton Hewitt and Andre Agassi were once on record for saying these things too - before falling into a rut. LOL Oh yes, they also indulged in Coca Cola.

I do stock Taurine 500mg for certain people who see me specifically with agitation and have had a history of fits along with Insomnia Types II and III. It's a natural anticonvulsant which can help stop brain synapses from short-circuiting. It is also a companion to Melatonin by helping the Melatonin production in the Pineal gland. It's also a precursor for GABA that's used to reduce episodes of Bipolar II via a cycle that includes another amino acid called SAMe. Heard of it? I'm not aware of dangers of Taurine unless someone here is able to offer me some journal results about them? Background Info:- Type I insomnia is when one can't go off to sleep very well Type II insomnia is when one wakes up intermittently Type III insomnia is when one wakes up too early and can't go off again

If working out and need to reduce lactic acid get Tresos B with Se or Meta B Complex with Se or SF88 Plus with Se But if there's heaps of emotional stress... Hivita Stress where B3 content is 400mg & other Bs Berocca made by Roche yes Ash has a dark history. A whistleblower from Roche couldn't get back to Switzerland to see his wife lest Roche got the gov't to lie in wait & arrest him on trumped up charges for revealing secrets about Berocca. Too much sugar too in that stuff! Great marketing machine behind Berocca. Makes it look like a 'must have'. Lol

Yes, you're on the money - it's the right mineral to take. Chinese eat bitter melon to prevent muscle cramps too - finely cut & sauteed with shredded beef in black bean sauce. It contains natural quinine.

I think I've seen this phrase before. Could you please explain to an old timer like me what this means?

I think the dangers out there that would cause people to seriously consider taking a 'multi' might include... * working long hours * stress at work * stress at home * foods consumed that are denatured (rather than boosted) by GM * junk food offsetting good food * processing with chemicals that just shouldn't be there * strenuous training * insomnia * too much alcohol * using recreational drugs * too much simple sugars/carbs * compromised immune system * rehab after an illness However the dangers out there that might cause a person to consider a 'mega' would include... * genetic factors > clinical major depression, ODD, OCD, ADD, ADHD, bipolar II, certain forms of anxiety eg. phobic anxiety, anger/rage/revenge, rheumatoid arthritis, etc. * excessive use of alcohol * taking and abusing certain recreational drugs ...remembering that even the rationale behind using a 'mega' is still, to augment what the body isn't quite producing or consuming.

I think Daz that if you're going to take certain vitamins and minerals, firstly, you have to ask yourself, "Why do I want to take this?" Then research or be guided as to what the correct dose should be. Then know when to take it ie. morning or night? before or after food? Then ask yourself, "If I'm benefitting from this, how long do I take it for?"

yellow urine is primarily from leftover B2 or riboflavin if one's diet is pretty good, I don't see the point of taking vitamins in 'multi' form Supplements zinc is good in winter time especially if your nails have white flecks or your lips are cracking or there's dandruff magnesium is good if you sweat too much, have a weak irregular pulse chromium is good for blood sugar levels selenium is good as an antioxidant iron is good for brain function in young bodies and for blood integrity in all bodies C is good because we don't manufacture C in the body: it's in fruit and veg bioflavonoids get the C into far reaches of the body and makes the C more useable - it's red colour of berries B1 is good for energy replenishment when there's pressure in your life B3 is good to help serotonin function and deal with passive-aggressive moods B5 helps healing processes throughout the body and skin B6 is good for the nervous system and reduces PMT in girls when there's a buildup of fluid - but needs zinc to work B12 is good for bipolar swings and aftermath of alcohol - companioned by folic acid B17 prevents cancer choline helps the liver function better biotin helps with energy and liver tyrosine if on an empty tummy helps prevent depression of an introversion type by supporting noradrenalin and dopamine - but on a full tummy is shunted to muscle Brands for Stress Relief * Centrum is useless * Blackmore's Executive B Stress is fair * SF88 or Tresos-B or Meta B Complex or Stress B Forte are good * Hivita Stress is very good ^ ^ ^ and they are also 'multi'

I get my wk done at Nepean Valley Smash at much less than that; and Jason uses speedclips for ease of taking it off afterwards. 47353522
