Monsta Turbos And Other Cheap Ebay Jobbies
kitto replied to reeceo21's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
The only sort of direct dealings i've had with an ebay turbo; RB30E+T GT35R equivalent cheap turbo - On idle, the turbine would not spin, at all. It would sit there and wait until there was enough exhaust gas flow to start turning the turbine. Probably a combination of a too large exhaust housing plus really crap bearings. - It seized after doing 2,000 odd kms or so. I'd steer clear. If you want a cheap turbo, i believe the kinugawa turbos are ok, and i believe the kando dynamics are ok for the money. I have had nothing to do with either though. -
I think i've got one in my shed. Im in Adelaide too, although my shed is in the hills

If you've already got an external oil fitler/cooler. You could just add in an external oil pressure regulator. Only down fall is it needs a return back to the sump via say a -10 fitting.

How old are youe coil packs? What type of plugs are you using @ what size gap? If the shop tuned it, I would expwct them to put new plugs in. I would be pointing to old coil lacks that are breaking down under boost

Wana Make Ur R34 Gtt Look The Goods?!
kitto replied to elir32's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
Contact Garage 7. Seeing as your in SA. They have a customer's 34 GTR that requires a new bonnet. They may be interested. -
Jesus thats bad. I'd hate to see the rest of the engine's water galleries.
-
I beleive the 33 gtr cams had a different base circle diameter. Ask Boosted-R, I had a discission with him about R32/33 RB26 differences.

Need A Good Fault Finder In Adelaide.
kitto replied to buzz350's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Have you changed your plugs? What plugs are in it? What gap? Were the coil packs you put in BRAND new OEM units, or just some other second hand ones? Could be ignitor or CAS, but look at plugs first if you havn't changed them, and coil packs if they are just second hand ones. -
Excuse me????? I dont think you see where i'm coming from. The point i was getting at, is people that fit atmospheric venting blow off valves to be "sick" and 'hektik', but have no idea on what effects it causes the metered air that has been read by the ECU and suddenly vented to air. Not to mention the added cop attention. They quite often cause idle issues, plug fouling, hesitation when changing gears etc etc. Factory recirculation valves are there for a reason, and i believe in them. I dont use one myself for my own reasons (no not to intentionally cause flutterzzz). The comment i was making is pretty much the same as The_Mafia's. So i dont think i have to call the WRC at all. Hope this clears things up.

So much money and stuffing around for no gains. Nissan designed it well, so stick with it. You'll lose mid range torque and spend a lot of money and piss about for no major reason. If you really want a forward facing plenum, fit a GTR unit as said earlier. Although, i'm almost positive if Nissan was easily able to fit a flip up plenum and retain the ITB's on the RB26, i'm sure they would have. The forward facing plenum may increase response yes, but for a cost of torque. I know several people who have regretted going down this path.

No, does not. Hence why you must use a Z418 or Z632 filter. Incorrect, the ball bearing relief valves are set to a low pressure, something around 5 - 10PSI.

So I Pulled My Rb25 Neo Down Over The Weekend...
kitto replied to kitto's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Simon, Matt Millard also suggested this as another point of wear. Nissan specify 7.5W30 factory which is pretty thin. I can change rings/hone bores, change bearings myself. But trying to work out bearing clearances to nissan specs looks tricky. -
So I Pulled My Rb25 Neo Down Over The Weekend...
kitto replied to kitto's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Ok, small update. I spoke to my friend who is an engine builder about the lifters. He can't be sure until he has a look over the head, but he suggested either poor maintenance (lack of oil changes), abuse to the engine (starting engine and not allowing it to warm up) or possibly overheating of the engine could have caused the exhaust lifters too look as they are. Today i decided to pull the bottom end down. I removed all the pistons and the crank. And needless to say, all the bearings are worn and will have to be replaced at the minimum. It doesn't look like they have starved of oil. My conclusion is its had a very poor service life. Possibly had its first service far too late and may have only had one other service. I know it has been service once here in Australia, as it had a bursons oil filter on it. I would say its also been started, thrown in gear and driven. As thats what most people do;, start > throw in gear > throttle > BAM, heaps of engine wear. Given that most engine wear is caused on start up/warm up. But unfortunately the average person doesn't care/know. i think this is where this engine has received all its damage from. I'm very very pissed off and frustrated to say the least. This was meant to be an engine to get my car running again until i've finished building my RB26. This is another really annoying set back. I'm not sure where to go from here. Do i replace all the bearings and rings and set it back to Nissan tolerances. Or for a little bit more money i could put some CP forgies in it, then you might as well put arp bolts in the rods, but for a bit more you could just buy forged rods anyway. Now the crank is out i should get a crank collar fitted and have the crank grub screwed. It just snow balls out of control. Where the hell do i draw the line, a line that i'll be happy with knowing the engine is going to run happily for a decent amount of time to come. Unfortunately today has got me really questioning myself why the hell i'm into cars, wasting so much money and time and every time i eventually get the damn thing going again, it just breaks something else. Really frustrated and over it! end rant. -
Bovs are totally gay. And so are people that fit them. If you want a bov, use the stock recirculation valve that is still plumbed back.
-
Thats correct. Im doing the same thing. Just order one from Nissan. I have. $9 fom memory. Jf you delete the cooler, you must use a Z418 oil filter, or depending how your filter sits, a Z632 which doesnt have an anti drain back valve. Im gonna use the Z632. You need to use one of these filters as when you delete the oil cooler, you delete the bypass valves as well. Z145A doesnt have the bypass valve. Z418 & Z632 do.

Constant Misfire That Has Turned Into More..
kitto replied to Josh's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Sounds like the ECU has completely fried. Odd that you've had the power input transistor fail, then an injector transistor, and now the ECCS relay grounding transistor/control circuit start failing. Yes power transistors that drive injectors do fail and have before on RB's. Not uncommon. Open up your ECU and have a look and see if there is burning on the ECU, possibly in more than one location. -
Top Feed Fuel Rail To Suit Standard Plenum
kitto replied to Stevoss's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
So if i can use an R33 RB25 rail on an RB25 NEO, does it also suit an RB26? Another question, do i have to use 3/4 length injectors or can i get away with full length injectors with the NEO? I assume the fuel rails come with fitting kits to suit either injectors? Any reason to go with 14mm injectors over 11mm ones and vice versa? -
Top Feed Fuel Rail To Suit Standard Plenum
kitto replied to Stevoss's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Does anyone know if the R33 RB25 fuel rail will fit the NEO? Retaining the factory plenum of course. I'm going to put Xspurt injectors in my NEO and i need to either modify the stock rail and put -8 fittings on it, or just buy a rail off the shelf. I'd prefer to just buy one off the shelf. -

kitto replied to kitto's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I can get more pics, but not until Friday/Saturday, i only go up to my shed on the weekend, too far to drive during the week. There are some, not many, but there are some photos to show which holes need to be drilled out. Yes i drilled mine out to 3/8" (9.52mm) -

kitto replied to kitto's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Yeah, you and i were discussing this the other day. I'm doing mods to the pan to vent it to the catch can, so that is sorted. What size was your VCT feed if you can remember? So you dont seem to have any issues with lack of oil at idle and low RPM? I'm concerned about reducing the amount of oil to the head if the exhaust lifters are showing the wear they have, i'm baffled as to why they are that worn. -

Ok, so i'm not the only one! Yay. How far are you going on the strip down of yours justin? Have you pulled your lifters out? Also, have you measured your restrictors? -
So I Pulled My Rb25 Neo Down Over The Weekend...
kitto replied to kitto's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Ahh i see, yeah i always thought it was a dedicated VCT drain. Its really difficult to see down the hole for the VCT feed, however i think i eliminated the fact that the restrictor may be elsewhere, after using the compressed air gun into the main oil gallery, you get a large amount of air coming from the VCT feed as you would expect from a 6mm hole. And obviously a lot less air coming through the head feeds. I tilted the block on its side and put some clean oil into the main gallery as well. And yep, oil pissed out of the VCT feed. So there is no restrictor there for it. Can you explain why only the exhaust lifters show this wear?
