  1. was at dyno day yesterday and the guys from DNA were out there with a couple of guys sporting their kits. quite impressive i must say. if you haven't seen their kit, here are some pics below. most noticeable about this kit is the pipework. its reversed, inlet from the left, outlet from the right. the idea of this was to have the outlet pipe not go over the hot section of the car - in effect keeping it as cool as possible. DNA say their fmic keeps inlet temperature atleast 5 degrees cooler than conventional fmic kits... anyone have any comments on their system? from what i can see: -the pipework length and amount of bends is pretty much the same as any other conventional system. -the idea of running the pipes that way is quite ingenius -quality of parts and workmanship looks fantastic -cost of kit ($1950) is extremely competitive. -why havent the japs gone this way? -will running the pipes over the hottest section of the car heat the air so much as to make the i/c inefficient enough to cope?
  2. apart from having the "rice" value of an externally venting blow off valve, is there a need to upgrade in the 'line? i know in the wrx the standard blow off valve would leak after 17 or 18 pounds....
  3. awww! thats crap! why dont it suit the R34?!!!??!?!
  4. HKS, 2nd hand items...
  5. ahh ok. from wot you said it sounded as though the SAFC did all that on its own! now that you've cleared that up its quite obvious you have a *monster* !!! understood. i'm getting my SAFC soon. im not expecting that much from it though. i dont think much power gains (although certainly alot has been experienced from members of this forum) can be made from just fuel trimming....
  6. you could also get a proper ecu with fuel mapping, ignition timing and maybe some boost control too? you can also get piggy back units like the apexi itc (ignition timing controller) that connects to your OEM ecu and manipulates the signals...
  7. thats close to a 100rwkw gain with an SAFC, rechipped ecu, manual conversion and a twin plate clutch? WTF!?
  8. maybe after your boost spiking exercises your ecu's decided to retard timing? there is no way a dump pipe and front pipe has decreased power for you unless your car is NA!
  9. ever to be repeated?
  10. in regards to the idle control component, from memory, hills were saying they do retain it - now wether i was misinformed, heard incorrectly or not knowing what im talking about is another story is it impossible to retain the idle control component on a custom plenum? the message is very clear in what your saying. and that is, plenums are only beneficial with big HP and could, in some cases, cause more problems than anything. i guess the answer i was looking for was wether or not the crossover piping is insignificant in terms of response. from the comments here it seems as though it isnt that bad....but i guess its just an age old thought that the additional piping is going to be significant...
  11. ex-static, 30kw from an safc tune? that's abit rich isnt it? was there an inherent problem before the safc tune? did you raise boost? any other mods that came with the safc install and tune? 30kw at the wheels? mygod... was it done on the same day and same dyno!? id hate to think how much power a new turbo gives you! black33, you'll be very lucky to get a 2nd hand SAFC for $400, i've been waiting for weeks! best i've seen is $480. Noone will go lower than $500. At the end of the day, i think im going for a daughterboard for a couple hundred more and get access to fuel and ignition mapping and tuning. as for choice between SAFC, i guess it all depends on what you want out of your car down the track? i guess you wont lose much on resale value with an SAFC but you've still gotta install, tune and then remove later on if you do decide to go PowerFC. i think in all cases, your best bet is to do it right the first time, that way you get maximum enjoyment, least headaches all the time...
  12. Could you please count me in too..... thanks...
  13. yeah thats cool i knew you werent having a go - i appreciate comments either way! i want a 28mm camera...i think the 880 is gonna be on sale soon....
  14. i was really happy with the 1st one ... all shots were taken without flash, 8 second exposure, iso 100, f2.8 (i think). it was about 9:15pm at night, pretty much dark, the over exposure you see on the front bar is a headlight...nice effect - i quite like it!
  15. went for a cruise tonite out to dee why and got a few interesting snaps...it was too windy though...
  16. ETA? would be interested in hearing your results!
  17. dont know what its worth ... is anyone interested in one? make me an offer ... currently in yellow, will be available from next weekend onwards.
  18. clint you went from a custom plenum to a crossover pipe? or your commenting from standard i/c to fmic?
  19. please elaborate! what does a Greddy one do that a fabricated one can't do? i mean Greddy is essentially a fabricated item anyway? i spoke to mark at hills motorsport about inlet plenums and wether or not each of the injectors will be fed the same amount of air (which i believe is the main issue?) and he's very confident he's looked at that and addressed it...?
  20. if your lazy and you want convenience and most of all your paranoid about turbo cooling then get one.... i never had one in my wrx, i have one in my current skyline (not by choice) and i can say its quite convenient having one but its not really a "necessity"....
  21. later on down the track there's possibility for a larger turbo, but for now im deciding against because i do want to retain bottom end...so you believe the plenum wont make that much of a difference to response over the "full" piping and OEM plenum?
  22. a custom plenum pipework
  23. dilemna........... i have a small question, if i was to get a custom front mount intercooler, is adding a custom plenum to REDUCE the pipework going over the engine worth it??? Will it be just as responsive with the additional pipework as it is without? cheers,
  24. phwoar allegations PLUS i can't comment here and i wont, but i do know subzero has made some very quick skylines in australia...?
  25. i know thats not how you do it i just want to get a basic idea of where your pulling out fuel... also, on the safc isnt there a function where you can literally cut fuel when you back off the throttle so as you dont get backfires???
