ok so what about using the GPS function of my phone, in a phone holder thing on the dash?
-
by the way, its not '6 times' or whatever - that number is how many starts ago the problem happened. if it says 0, then its happened as the engine is currently running.
-
its very difficult to do (20x more effort than what ive done in the character screen), but there are existing products around that do similar to what you're after. hks camp (discontinued, i think this is similar to r34gtr console) and techtom vlogger. but theyll cost like $400+ if u can get them
-
depends on your use of the display... if you want it there for continual monitoring, etc, and perhaps want to mount it somewhere easily seen, then you probably want the yellow/green. if you want it more for looks and the occasional use of various functions but not necessarily continual monitoring, and are happy to mount it out of direct sunlight, then blue/white one would be good. the lcd is removable (requires 1 resistor to be changed) so i can always swap over the lcd at a later time if required at this stage i think we'll be lucky if we get it sometime in may, most likely june. until i actually have the enclosures in my hands i cant make any promises.

a bit of an overkill to spend $400 for tunable ecu setup when you just want to do a map trace...
-
you dont have to pay for the latest datascan version if you're a registered user - all upgrades are free
-
i think thats the point of it - they will read the maps from the rom and then display your position on it. because from memory once you choose your values it will then populate the table (fairly slowly, so presumably this point its reading from the map) before it starts showing you the trace
-
get the latest version if you're using an old one - there is an option on dropdown for rb20det?
-
doesnt look like you did, so ive added you to list (which is up to date now for SAU ppl) btw in case i havent mentioned price much recently - still aiming for it to be $200 + postage (add $10 for blue screen version), but cant confirm that till ive got enclosures sorted.

its not obd, nor obd2. its nissan's proprietary consult. youll need a 'consult cable', and then consult software on your pc (heaps of free software available). consult cables can be got from blazt.biz or plmsdevelopments.com consult is on all R33, R34 and on 9/89+ R32's (or 10/89, forget), since they werent subject to being sold in USA and therefore no requirement for OBD2 in 96+

Consult Diagnostic System

thousands of people do. yes its worth purchasing a cable unless your car has informed you it will never play up. there's plenty of free software...ecutalk, tecu, calumsult, and i think now obdscantech is free now which is good cause it covers all the gaps in the other software. -
probably depends on where its mounted and how much ambient light it gets. say low in a DIN slot should be fine, but on the dash may be almost impossible to read in daylight. but on the other side, mounting it low might come into viewing angle problems as the displays have better viewing angles from below (ie, u want the display up high/level rather than below) so that may be a bit of a compromise. heres a video from a few years ago with the blue screen: http://www.ecutalk.com/consultlcd/consultlcd.avi from memory the display was shaded a bit whilst recording (i was driving, cant remember exactly). id say thats the best ive seen the blue one in natural light, i guess its hard to really know until you do it. of course at night time its great. personally i only would use the green one, but im not one much for looks though if you find you dont like the blue ones i can swap a yellow one over for you for cost of postage
-
yes white on blue screens will be available for $10 extra. they arent as easy to see as the green/yellow as they compete with natural light (green/yellow is enhanced by natural light)
-
these arrived today. havent had a chance to test that theyve been assembled right though. pics, like all my pics, suck, but you get the drift. given whats there, for each display (minus the enclosure), i need to place the pcb sub-board on the left (with buttons/usb), need to put the 3 chips in their socket, make and attach the cable, and then solder connectors onto the LCD and slot it in. which, compared to last lot (where i hand soldered all 50) is a lot less work! though there is 100 for this lot. ill be sending one off to help with making a prototype enclosure, hopefully not too long after that we might have a prototype enclosure and sometime next month (fingers crossed) be ready to start selling them.

HKS CAMP - Who's Got One ??
NewKleer replied to Jay95R33's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
boost, oil temp/pressure are not available via consult -
yeah im using the trip meter screen much more than the main data display, surprised i didnt think to get the trip meter done sooner! wont have DIN mount available to start with (hard enough getting plain enclosures done for when PCB will be ready) - but it will be smaller than DIN so you can probably rig it up into a din slot somehow
-
ill be getting 100 made in this batch, id expect maybe half of those to be taken by people waiting, and the rest to sell until sold - then probably keep making while ever there is still demand (and while ive still got time etc). only reason i stopped the v1 displays was so i could make them better
-
have just submitted final PCB designs for manufacture and partial assembly, should get PCB's back start of April. then will just be matter of getting enclosures sorted if they arent by then.
-
just buy a consult cable and do it yourself...
-
ok ive finally made a list of people who've registered interest here: http://www.ecutalk.com/consultlcd/lcdorders.php if you thought you had but arent on the list, either just post here/pm me. theres about 50 people so far on the list, but some of those are people that registered interest quite a while ago so not expecting all to still go ahead with V2. im getting a batch of 100 made, so should be enough anyway. still waiting to hear about enclosures, should have PCB's changes completed and ready for manufacture by end of this month (then a few weeks till delivery of those)
-
yep jeff ur my list since 22/11/07. at some point ill have to put up a list somewhere to keep track myself and so people can check (but generally if u have posted in this thread or any of the others ill stick everyone in right place on the list whenever i get around to finishing this v2 lot). there will be around 100 for this batch, so hopefully that will be enough im hoping to have PCB's manufactured and assembled this month, and at a guess i might get enclosures ready sometime in march. that should hopefully give me some time to start getting the displays put together (minus the enclosure) so theyre quick to go out once enclosures are made. when i get to the point if im only waiting on enclosures, then anyone who's interested can get a "naked" one and help out with final testing with it (and i can send out enclosures seperately or u can send display back for it to be fitted). would just need to be sure none of the pcb contacts on back are shorted, but aside from that the LCD slots into the PCB very securely. in the little time ive had this week, ive been able to check that a buzzer ive put on the board works, so we should have audible alerts at some point (eg speed/temp/rpm). still need to get an "overall" trip meter data saved/viewable somewhere (maybe similar to peak values), so u can see trip meter stats for a whole tank of fuel, etc (rather than just since you turned car on).

unfortunately it will only have usb connectivity...(it has a USB type B socket, so you use a usb A-B cable, like a typical printer one). having the serial cable was a nuisance for the majority of users who wouldnt hook it up to a PDA, and most recent laptops dont have serial ports anymore. so for 95% of users, it was both more convenient with removable cable, and they dont need to buy a usb/serial converter.

the original wording (and it not being in the for sale forum) didnt make it obvious that he wanted to trade his license for some other software (but it obviously could be taken a few different ways) thats what we get from the internets, very easy for different words to mean different things to people either way, if you're in any hurry, you're probably best off selling your copy of nissan datascan and buying scantech or whatever you are after, not sure how long itd take you to find someone to wants to trade
