  1. its a ball and a spring, not a switch. 12 psi going this way -> | <- say 5psi of ball/spring pressure pushing this way = net effect of 7psi that way -> that is, once the ball spring is pushed away, you are still "using up" some of your pressure to keep it open - thus the wastegate wont suddenly see 12psi, it will be just as if its see "x psi" less than the pressure you have. eg it might be seeing 3 psi less pressure than is really there, so it opens at 10 vs 7.
  2. i vote yes for retarded ok first, some simple theory on how it works. the screw presses down on a spring which pushes on a ball. the ball therefore stops some of the air pressure from the turbo (ic piping) getting to the wastegate, which then delays its opening (to limit boost). therefore, the tighter the screw is, the more boost u get caquse the wastegate doesnt see its "7psi" until actural pressure is higher. thereofre, the diagram is right - as u can see the screw acting ont he ball to stop air coming from the IC and going to wastegate
  3. check out post #691 on page 35
  4. i have the same issue on one of the two i have i think. ie one spikes badly the other spikes at most 0.5 psi. ive emailed mark to see if theres anything that could go wrong with it to cause this, cause my other one worked fine
  5. no need for null modem for laptop. good to see uve got a laptop with serial port! btw sorry for not picking up on the normal vs mini xda, should have read more thoroughly.
  6. wait till u see if the usb kb/mouse works. you can always just get a usb-serial converter for your laptop (assuming it doesnt have serial ports) - thats essentially what the usb version is, just converting serial to usb (which then gets converted back to serial via virtual com port). im sure u could pick up a older ppc that will work with this for not too much $
  7. consult interface is a usb device. usb devices need a usb host to work. a computer is a usb host, most pda's are usb devices only. usb device->usb device doesnt work. i imagine some pda's have some way to switch between host/device using same cable - maybe mini does but undocumented, youll soon find out if a keyboard/mouse (id try both) works/doesnt. if it does work, i can send you a serial-usb convert to try with it (will need it back) - if it works, then you can buy any usb-serial converter with the FTDI chip in it and use it (note, the usb consult interfaces didnt have the ftdi chip in them, hence it would not work whether u had host usb or not, as there are no windows ce drivers for the chip used in them, but there are for ftdi chips). if it doesnt work, more than likely there would be no way to get a usb consult interface to work. you still may be able to get serial consult interface by other means. IRDA or bluetooth to serial adaptors may work - could be costly. but if u had gotten a usb consult interface it would be useless by now (aside from using it in a pc). you can always make a serial consult interface into usb with usb-serial converter, you cant go the other way.
  8. try find soem software online (or is it part of mobile windows?) that gives u a description of each port. maybe in connections or something? borrow a usb mouse/keyboard (or take needed stuff soemwhere that has one and try it out).
  9. go grab a usb mouse or keyboard (do u have an adaptor yet for usb-mini to normal usb, with whatever gender changers?) just try plug it in and see if it works? hopefully wont damage anything if it doesnt
  10. what a useless pda/phone! see the edited post above. see if u can google anyone whos been able to get their xda2 mini to work with a serial gps (eg via bluetooth-serial converter). only thing is, if one exists, it might be expensive. im guessing u dont have a CF slot?
  11. oh i see now, they're going backwards in technology these days ok, so you know if its a host usb port? ie, can you plug a usb mouse into it? or is it only a "device" port, ie you can plug it into your pc for syncing but the usb is otherwise useless (aside from charging) from this thread, it looks like they dont: http://forum.mypdacafe.com/viewtopic.php?t...t=host&start=15 which basically means ur screwed try put the software on ur xda and see what ports it shows in the drop down list on startup (or can u otherwise see what COM ports you have?) maybe u can get a bluetooth to serial adaptor if ur pda already has a com port for bluetooth to serial
  12. geez warren, what will we do with you go back to page 2, post #27 and #29. i gave you a list of stuff to get, and there was no mention of the usb. stop trying to use bloody usb, because there is only one brand of usb-serial converter chips i know that have drivers for windows ce (no idea if that includes xda). if you want to be adventurous u can try this specific adaptor: http://store.yahoo.com/cooldrives/usb-to-serial-adapter.html, but no idea if it will work (you will of course need ur mini usb adaptor, and to download the drivers from ftdichip.com) so head back to page 2, get the SERIAL sync cable, and plug it up as ive said. next mention of usb earns you a bitch slap gengis, how do u think the peak hold should work? display max value on the gauge perhaps (above the current?)
  13. you can trust them to tell you when symptoms exists - as they have. you already know theres a PROBLEM due to there being symptoms in the past - now just cause the symptoms have gone (thats all RACV check cares about) in the short term, it by no means ensures that the underlying cause is fixed (which often can be a complete rebuild). why, after its already been confirmed there could be a serious underlying problem, are you convinced that problem is now gone just cause its symptoms have temporarily disappeared. most auto skylines sell for 12-14k these days - what makes this any better? the fact you want an auto skyline gives you a HUGE advantage in buying - most people dont want one. now your going to waste this advantage by buying one for 16k or whatever? just take a bit more time to think it through - everyone is saying as such because theyve either been in the same situation or know someone who has, and know how tempting it can be just to ignore all the sus stuff in order to just get that car right now.
  14. here's an update, have made a prototype. which removes a lot of the extras, but am just testing the main screen and will soon be able to test the integrated consult interface, just need to wire up the serial plug. as you can see the size is still quite compact and am on track to make it of similar dimensions to whats shown there. shot taken on angle as i had no contrast adjust setup on lcd yet (and straight on was just like all black). whats shown there is standalone and only has the consult plug coming off it.
  15. wont work with a powerfc. and as mentioned throughout the thread you may need a serial sync + null modem adaptor (or other cables depending on pda) to connect to pda via serial. the consult interface has a serial plug on end of it - you need a cable that will allow you to connect serial "devices" up to your pda. whether its a serial gps or serial consult interface, doesnt matter (hence if someone says they can hook up a serial gps device to their pda with some kind of cable, then with the same cable you should be able to hook up to a consult interface)
  16. it should work on any nissan car with the consult connector and stock ecu. thats R32 (11/89 +), all R33 and R34.
  17. another minor issue, some of the dates on the trader ratings are like 2000? may be related to the count not counting all comments
  18. if he really would fix them before delivery then whats the difference to doing it now? unless you're hoping to sell the car to someone who doesnt realise the faults, its in your best interest to fix them asap (assuming they arent reoccuring issues that would cost more to get it fixed multiple times) so that people arent turned away if they see the faults.
  19. thats known as "active tests" and currently i dont have support for any in the software, but its on the feature list (on the site) which ill hopefully get around to doing at some point
  20. unfortunately not, otherwise i probably wouldnt have bought a pulsar
  21. yeh ill stick a link there for anyone who finds there way to the old diy kit group buy thread. not sure about how the ecuxtend cables are setup - main issue being im not sure how the shift light thing is connected. cant hurt, just try it and see.
  22. calumsult doesnt show all sensors from memory, try this: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...howtopic=107201
  23. http://www.plmsdevelopments.com/images_if/...t_connector.jpg you should findit hiding in the fusebox area
  24. the above order is also how u connect it up. ie pda->serial sync->null modem->serial consult interface->car's consult plug in fuse box area you may want to buy this from the same ebay seller (combine postage): http://cgi.ebay.com.au/USB-SYNC-CHARGER-KI...oQQcmdZViewItem so u have a car charger for it.
  25. i cant guarantee itll work, but you most likely need this (if i was in your situation id just buy these and find out, serial sync and null modem dont cost much) your o2 xda II pda (check!) xda 2 serial sync (here) null modem (here) serial consult interface (here) nissan consult capable car! (lets hope ur r32 wasnt manufactured before nov 89...) should work on windows mobile 2003 (a lot better than it will on earlier versions ) - just follow install instructions, youll need the .net compact framework etc. good luck!
