  1. tool the lifters out a few days ago, been in oil since. today my brother flushed them a bit with petrol, then left them in oil till i got back, and he said he thought 2 of the lifters on the second piston from front (no 2?), both exhaust side, were squashy, and i confirmed that this arvo so with any luck the engine noise is from those two lifters (and both being rooted is consistant with the noise that seems to be only once per revolution of engine (and therefore cant be lifters on two different cylinders, or different sides of engine (that are equally as stuffed) anyone know where to buy new lifters? nissan or do they cost too much? (theyre supposed to be 40$?)
  2. fast thinks the 13U00 ecu is manual rb25det ecu from skyline 96/1 to 96/6, if that helps.
  3. can it be seen running? whats was the psi from each cylinder from the compression test? what mechanic said all this about the balancing? when did u get the engine/where from? whats going in the car after the rb25 is taken out?
  4. i also have some settings.dat error message on startup.
  5. kms are supposedly under 100k but with any import motor theres no way to be sure. engine is stock so no oil cooler/mods. as im not sure where the noise is coming from i dont want to spend 24 x 30-60$ on new lifters when they might not be the cause of the louder noise.
  6. Ive had a bit of noise my engine (rb25det), and as ive had permanent lifter noise previously, on the offchance that this noise is a badly stuffed lifter, im taking them all out and cleaning them. The specific noise i had ive recorded here But im not quite sure on a foolproof way of testing which are stuffed, and how to clean them. Ive read the guide to cleaning/testing lifters on a lancer, but they are quite different to the rb25 lifters. Does anyone have more information on how to test them and/or how to clean them?
  7. the pga forums (pulsar.org.au) had some guys in WA selling them. ive made a few for the interested on silviansw forums. you can find most of the stuff you need from jaycar and make it yourself if your good with electronics, have a lot of spare time and can track down a consult connector (or hard wire it) as for the software in the original post, ill check it out soon, more free alternatives the better!
  8. how would u hook up to the pda? i didnt think any came with serial/usb ports (that can be used like a normal port would on a laptop/pc, i dont mean something that would only be capable of "syncing" with a computer or whatever the inbuilt connection on many pda's is for) i was looking into whether its possible to write software for a consult interface on a pda (which essentially is what this is) but stopped cause i go zero response to how to connect up to a pda
  9. also the trader rating appears twice in threadview in the for sale section (once here)
  10. i may be after the hydraulic lifters in the head if u sell the bare head. wont know for sure for a couple of weeks though (cant start on my car till after uni exams finish)
  11. see below. i get this randomly when accessing any part of the site, only since today.
  12. still doesnt. also have another error which ill post seperately (if no one else has)
  13. i get a blank screen when trying to submit trader feedback. also can trader feedback appear on the user's profile page, instead of only in a thread they post in?
  14. most people dont seem to realise this as they havent given it enough time. i think any decision should be left till all the bugs are ironed out, but even at this stage the new system is much easier to find stuff in, and gives incentive to users to actually post pictures of items. half the replies in the old system were "pics?".
  15. also on the view product page, location should probably be justified left with all the other info - just a minor thing.
  16. if the classifieds/forums use the same user tables, (ie a users in both forums are the same? or do u have to register seperately for the classifieds? i forget what i did...) can we have the user's location inserted into the main fields in posted items?
  17. a gudgeon pin connects the piston to the conrod
  18. sorry to hear. hoping my engine doesnt have the same fate! will hopefull have time on/after the weekend to take the rocket covers off and see if anything is obviously damaged. how did u determine it was a cylinder? (would a compression test work? might be able to get my brother to bring home a kit from work to test over weekend) or more specifically, how did u determine it wasnt the lifters?
  19. ull need a client such as azureus that allows individual file downloading, and set the rest to do not download
  20. disable creating new threads in the old forums (once the new ones are all worked out). a bit drastic, but will definitely make people use the new section. if then, after a few weeks, everyone does not like it, think about the old way, but not enough people really know/care that u want them to post in the new place now. also can u intergrate searching of the classifieds with the normal searching?
  21. from the box. searching from advanced search does not work either, though.
  22. i was in the rb30 conversion thread in forced induction, tried a "search this thread" (think the search term was size or block, dont think it matters though) and it searched the whole of the forums, not just the thread.
  23. i was also looking into cleaning (well seeing if i can clean them, would only change them if i know which ones are the noisy ones) my lifters sometime over the summer. but just recently the engine developed a noisier rattle, it may be lifters (just really loud) or might be something else? ive had noisy lifters for a while. heres a recording of the sound. the lifter noise at idle is just a tad too soft to clearly hear, but this other noise is there. http://users.bigpond.net.au/newkleer/engineshort.mp3 (400kb, or engine.mp3 (720kb) for longer version) any idea what it could be? thanks in advance
  24. if ur ecu supports it then wiring one in, if u can get a hold of one, isnt too hard. i chopped my consult plug off and relocated it to glovebox as it wasnt wired up properly after engine conversion.
