Your Assistance Required - I Got Scammed Out Of $1500
V28VX37 replied to murrayis's topic in General Automotive Discussion
That sucks man. I was talking to a mate the other day who got scammed out of $800 buying an iPhone 6S off eBay around Christmas (too good to be true and all that...) Anyway he too had some issues with the tracking numbers, apparently the one he was given was for an item delivered back in 2014. He contacted both PayPal and his bank to lodge complaints and got it all sorted pretty quickly. Hope it works out for you. -
Oil Cooler Orientation - Trans, Engine, Steering Etc
V28VX37 replied to Trex's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
My R34 GTT OEM auto trans cooler was vertical (middle of the pic): I installed a Davies Craig core the same way: The car is now manual and I've just replaced the Davies Craig with a Mocal oil cooler core, again vertical (on the right): ^^^ I've also reused the original trans cooler as a PS cooler, it's now horizontal. ... Like GTSBoy said, the orientation probably doesn't matter as long as you get some decent air flow through the core... -
Yet another question: the factory power steering hose is 10mm ID whereas the auto trans cooler hose is 8mm ID. The auto trans hard lines that I reused to run under the chassis rail are similarly thinner. Does this affect the operation of the power steering circuit e.g. by making the pump run harder? Is this an issue?

+1 for State Roads, they did a decent job when I bought my car. Not cheap but insurance rarely is

Found this in another thread: http://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/199101-bleeding-power-steering/?p=3554598 I've followed that and it's better but there's still a very noticeable shudder when going slow/stationary, especially when turning right... The rack was already leaking before but I think I may have just expired it for good: Right side – the boot is split too: Left side: What do you guys reckon? Time to go shopping for a new rack? ... Also here's some photos of the install – using R34 GTT auto trans cooler as power steering cooler in the RH guard:

Ok I've done this today, inspired by this writeup: http://www.trak-life.com/diy-power-steering-oil-cooler/ Couple of mishaps and questions: I didn't remember to rinse the old auto cooler, however it was empty when installed, with just some small traces of ATF inside. I figured that given ATF and PS fluid are quite similar this shouldn't be issue hopefully? I also didn't fill the cooler with PS fluid once installed, doh. I've started and moved the car but the steering is super jerky and the PS pump runs noisy so it must be all the air in the system. Hope I didn't break anything.. Anyway what's the best way to fully bleed the PS circuit?

I have a spare 1998 R34 GTT Tiptronic auto selector (off an RB25DET Neo), I wonder if that would work? Photos here: http://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/444714-fs-r34-gtt-automatic-gearbox-and-parts-mbc-fuel-pump-tension-rods-manual-parts-mel/ -
Oil Cooler Recommendations For R34 Gtt?
V28VX37 replied to V28VX37's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Ok this might be a silly question but which way around should the hoses go? I.e. when the sandwich plate is mounted on the right hand side of the engine and the connections are facing the front of the car, should the top one run to the top of cooler core? Sandwich plate: Oil cooler core: ^^^ Btw the above photo is from this excellent write-up: http://www.trak-life.com/diy-r33-skyline-oil-cooler-with-thermostat/ -

V28VX37 replied to V28VX37's topic in Wanted to Buy
Looks like I got the harness part number wrong, what I need is this: Defi Oil Press Sensor Wire (2.5m, 8 1/5ft) PDF00704HI think I'll also need the EGT sensor bung: Fitting for Exhaust Temp Sensor(1/8PT) PDF01105GLet me know if you have any of the above parts lying around. -
Oil Cooler Recommendations For R34 Gtt?
V28VX37 replied to V28VX37's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Cheers mate. I'm pretty sure it'll fit, there's quite a bit of space behind the current trans cooler, will need some custom brackets though. I'll post up some pics when it's done. -
Opinions + Tips Of Keeping Car On The Street
V28VX37 replied to Albus's topic in General Automotive Discussion
It sounds like the standard set of precautions is a good alarm/immobiliser, club lock, tracking device and kill switch(es). None of these will stop a determined crook though, and most also make it harder for you to drive your own car on a regular basis. Have you looked at renting a garage somewhere near? -
Man they had some crazy drivers in the 70's...

I'm running a 2013 Hypergear ATR43S22 and a Trust turnflow (vertical flow) intercooler, 275rwkw @ 20psi on PULP controlled by a Blitz D-SBC. I have about 4mm preload on the actuator arm from memory, set by the master himself (Stao). Here's a photo of the Trust intercooler, the end tanks are top and bottom as opposed to the sides as in most return flow coolers. It's still got a sharp 90 degree bend on the top side to clear the chassis rail, may cause some restriction: EDIT: More photos of the installation here: http://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/348655-r34-gtt-front-mount-intercooler-installation/?p=7265769

Hi all, I am thinking of getting some additional power steering cooling for the track and wondering what the easiest way to do this might be. One idea I have is replacing the OEM power steering cooling loop behind the RH fog light with a leftover GTT Tiptronic auto trans cooler – would this work? Cheers guys

Oil Cooler Recommendations For R34 Gtt?
V28VX37 replied to V28VX37's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Ok so I ended up buying a Driftworks oil cooler kit off another SAU member, it turned up for sale just at the right time: It's this kit kit here http://www.driftworks.com/thermostatic-oil-cooler-kit-for-all-engines.html and comes with: Mocal 19 Row Oil Cooler Mocal 92 Degree Thermostatic Sandwich plate Braided oil cooler hoses Thermostatic Sandwich Plate Fittings The only downside is that the sandwich plate doesn't have spots for the sensors, so the plan is to run this over my existing sandwich plate. Apparently this should work ok: http://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/402155-using-two-oil-sandwich-plates/ I am planning on mounting the core where the auto trans cooler is currently: Hopefully there's enough clearance as the Mocal core is a lot thicker: Davies Craig 678 core: 281 x 213 x 20 mm Mocal core: 330 x 147 x 51 mm Here's how the Davies Craig one sits: Here's my original auto trans cooler install thread: http://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/165605-auto-trans-cooler-upgrade/page-2 I've found some good info here for the oil cooler installation: http://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/79130-r33-oil-cooler-installation/page-6 -
Thanks! Another question: if clearance is not an issue does it matter which way you pile the plates - sensor plate first and then the cooler, or the other way around?

Hi all, I've just ordered a Driftworks oil cooler kit with the Mocal thermostatic sandwich plate, which doesn't have sensor points. I have an existing sandwich plate for Defi sensors and I'm wondering if I can run both at the same time? The car is an R34 GTT with the Neo engine and standard small Ryco Z422 filter. The other option is to add an extender piece (?) between the oil cooler sandwich plate and the braided line where you can hook the sensors but I'm not sure if such a part exists?
-
Mine does move occasionally so at least it's not just a sticker
-
The ones I got are exhaust temp and oil pressure. I'm wondering if I should repurpose the oil pressure to show fuel pressure instead, given that the R34 has a factory oil pressure gauge already? Not sure of its accuracy though..

Oil Cooler Recommendations For R34 Gtt?
V28VX37 replied to V28VX37's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Cheers for the replies guys, sounds like it's easier said than done. PWR cores look good but no kits: https://www.pwr.com.au/products/oilcoolers/37mm-engine-oil-coolers I did my manual conversion hunting bits all over the shop, bit of a pain, so a complete kit would be preferred I'll have a proper look around and see what I can find, will post back. -
Oil Cooler Recommendations For R34 Gtt?
V28VX37 replied to V28VX37's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Oh ok cheers, so a sandwich plate, would need lines still. I've already got a billet sandwich plate for sensors but I don't think I can reuse that for the oil cooler, will check. Also a bit hesitant with the trans cooler as oil pressure can be up to 6bar or something, so really don't want a fitting to let go as it'll probably kill the engine... -

Thanks mate, is it one of these ones: http://justjap.com/cooling-pro-19-row-oil-cooler-relocation-kit.html With the relocator does it still take standard oil filter? Also I wonder how one might hook up the Defi sensors into that setup?
