  1. Yeah a full undertray would be better but I reckon having a rear undertray with a tight leading edge would still help. I'm thinking something like in the GT-R rear section: I'd love to make one out of aluminium if I had the skills (this is obviously the front):
  2. One more photo of the R34 GTT sedan driver's side rails, see how the LH rear bolts to the side not the floor:
  3. Both, it's got mounting points on the sides and down the bottom.
  4. Ok so I spent an hour at Concept Racegear in Cheltenham today, great service from Stan! I tried these reclining seats: Sparco R100 OMP Style They were both ok but nothing to write home about, they didn't feel that supportive to me (I'm average height and weight). I then tried the two ADR approved fixed back seats in the Sparco range: Sparco Sprint V Sparco Pro 2000 They were both a great fit, very snug and supportive, with the Pro having a slight edge with its lumbar support (it's got velcro pads that be moved to suit) and slightly better front edge padding. Given my budget I picked the Sprint (the Pro is almost twice the price), which is also narrower at the shoulder so it should be an easier fit in the car and work better with the standard seatbelt. I also grabbed a 4-point Sparco harness that I'll run to the rear seat belt mounting points on the track. Now if anyone has suggestions on how to get this mounted in an R34 GTT sedan -> http://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/459830-mounting-sparco-sprint-v-on-stock-rails-in-r34-sedan/ Thanks again Lee and Michael! Edit: Also wanted to add that the side holes on the Sprint are much bigger than on the Pro so it's easier to slot the seatbelt receptacle through.
  5. (Continuing from this thread http://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/326464-best-place-to-try-racing-seats-in-melbourne/ ) Ok so I went and got a new seat for the R34 today, a Sparco Sprint V fixed back. Now I just have to get it mounted it in my R34 GTT Sedan Here's what I've learned so far by having a look around (see pics below too): The Sparco is both FIA and ADR approved The OEM seat is secured by bolts not rivets so theoretically it could be replaced with another The seat belt receptacle moves with the seat, which I'd love to retain with the new seat The OEM seat bolt pattern is 325mm wide, 350mm deep The Sparco bolt pattern is 345mm wide, 270mm deep, so it'll need offset plates at least The bottom of the OEM is curiously shaped – the front is higher than the rear to clear the height/tilt control mechanism. I'm not sure if you can just drop in a flat bottomed seat but perhaps worth a go. With the rear of the seat at its highest I think a flat seat would clear the cross bars (see pic). I didn't buy the Sparco slider yet as I'm keen to try mounting on OEM rails and slider if possible. Has anyone mounted the Sparco or a similar fixed back seat on the OEM rails in a 4door GTT? Is there any chance of retaining the OEM height/tilt controls without breaking the original seat? Would the new seat fit next to them? The controls go through the fabric but I'm sure the knobs come off somehow. If OEM rails are not possible what's the recommendation? I've read somewhere that Bride rails might work but I want to be 100% sure as this is a sedan and apparently the coupe floorpan is different. With the sedan the rear end of the LH rail bolts onto the transmission tunnel (side) whereas the front end and both ends of the RH rail bolt onto the floor. Also what do you do with the seat belt receptacle (which I must retain for the street) on an aftermarket rail...? Thanks heaps!! Sparco bolt pattern: OEM seat bolt pattern: Seat adjustment mechanism: Seat adjustment knobs: Sparco Sprint V: I'm planning on running normal 3-point belt on the street and a 4-point harness on the track, a bit like this (notice how the seatbelt receptacle is slotted through the side of the seat): On the track I'm planning on running the harness to the rear seat belt points as a harness bar is not an option in this car:
  6. This confirms my theory that eccentric bushes are good in theory but less so in practice. I used to run Whiteline eccentrics in the rear (spent ages pressing out the OEM bushes too) and ended up replacing camber and traction arms with adjustable items, much easier to align.
  7. Well based on your original post I thought something is affecting the braking? Anyway one cause for steering wheel vibration under braking is warped discs, hence the suggestion to get them machined. Also given that you've had so many alignments and the car still pulls to one side could mean that there's some damage to the suspension arms. Just my $0.02 Edit: One more thought - is it possible that one of the wheel hubs had some rust/debris on it when the new discs were put on? This could cause vibration under braking as well.
  8. Thanks guys. One more important thing to add to the requirements: I want to run the factory seat belt so any fixed seat would need to have suitable holes on each side plus a shape that doesn't get in the way of the shoulder belt. I'll see what the guys say in the shop.
  9. Interesting, I've just PM'd you with some more questions
  10. Found some good threads on the R34 GT-R rear diffuser: http://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/405318-r34-gtr-v-spec-rear-diffuser-aero-data/ http://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/456810-r34-rear-diffuser/ This was really interesting, sounds exactly like what I'm after: Maybe I'll just start with a cardboard stencil and DIY it ... what's some decent material for this? Aluminium, what thickness? Edit: Also found that East Bear do a 4door rear diffuser (at a ludicrous price) so they do exist: http://www.nengun.com/east-bear/rear-bumper-diffuser-r34
  11. Thanks! The only reclining seat I've found in this price range is the Sparco R100, which sounds a bit too good to be true. I wonder if anyone's got any experiences to share?
  12. Thanks Geoff, great wheels with good tyres. Unfortunately the different hub size won't work in my application as I'd prefer not to swap two different types of spacers in and out..
  13. Hi all, I'm on the hunt for R34 GTT OEM 17" wheels with semis or semi-like track tyres in 225/45R17 (or close), with decent meat left: RE55 A050 AD08 595RSR KU36 R34 GTT OEM wheels preferred but may consider others that are very close in size i.e. 17 x 7.5", 5/114.3 PCD, +40 offset. (I'm running 20mm spacers and would prefer to retain them so I can easily swap between street and track wheels without re-Locktiteing...) Let me know what you've got.
  14. You didn't make the same mistake I did and get a cheap alignment done did you? I had one done last year on my R34 sedan and they completely f'ed up all the settings. What happened was they were looking for the make and model in the alignment machine database, didn't find a match (surprise), and just randomised some other car's settings. They also had a completely blank look when I started talking about the adjustable arms I have, lucky to have had the skill to turn the alignment machine on I reckon. My recommendation is to take the car to a reputable shop and pay for a proper alignment.
  15. Thread revival - any suggestions on where to check out some seats in Melbourne? I'm looking for an entry level seat to replace the OEM one in my mostly street driven GTT sedan. I'm after something that can be installed at the OEM mounting points and with a slider but still low. Should have excellent lateral support in the seat back and bum but not too narrow at the thighs. Budget is under 1k for seat, rails and slider. Some initial options are: Sparco R100 reclining, around $400 (Unique AutoSports) Cobra Monaco Pro, around $500 (Revolution Racegear) Velo GP90 fixed back, around $600 Proforce Safety RTS-300, around $400 (VPW), not much info on this online Sparco Corsa and Evo look great too but start getting pricey. Any recommendations? Any shops that could help me choose? Should I even be considering fixed back for this type of use?
  16. I'm pretty sure the under boot area is slightly different dimensions in the sedan compared to the coupe but perhaps with some modifications. I'll need to get the tape measure out. Cool thanks I'll see if I can find the right threads!
  17. Yes that's an option, have you tried that? It'd be great to hear experiences on what difference it makes.
  18. Hi guys, I'm trying to figure out some potential aero improvements for the 4door and keen for some input. The goal would be to have more downforce to improve high speed stability. The one time I've been at the track in the car it didn't exactly feel planted doing 199km/h up the back straight at Sandown. Would a rear undertray/diffuser help with this? There's a massive cavity under the boot area in the R34 sedan - is there anything similar to the GT-R undertray available for it? With the front of the car, this URAS bar looks very trick, however I wonder if it makes any actual difference? I'm currently running Origin rear window and boot lip spoilers but they probably don't do much. Would a bigger drag style wing help with downforce? Any other tips are welcome too!
  19. Holy crap, very lucky indeed not to crash bad!! I'm running the same discs, makes me nervous, very keen to hear more: Age of discs # of track days Disc thickness Pad and fluid type Wheel type Any brake cooling Any early signs of potential failure Interested in hearing what DBA have to say, too!
  20. White 260Z with black flared guards and Watanabes, wearing new JDM-style VIC plates 'KYUSHA'. Thumbs up!
  21. Unlikely. Start by getting a full wheel alignment and balance. If this is still an issue get your pads and rotors checked, and skimmed if needed. That should help.
  22. +1 And red mist.
  23. Hey mate your photos are not showing up here. Found the car on Carsales: http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Nissan-Skyline-1998/SSE-AD-3585295/ Very nice, GLWS
  24. Blue R34 GT-R in Moonee Ponds this morning, plates 'NVS...' maybe? Super clean, nice wheels, sounded awesome.
  25. Ok I got distracted and bought two more Defi gauges, oops. Any suggestions on where to mount them? A Greddy (style) A-Pillar dual gauge pod might be an option but I'm not sure if it's a bit too much circus for my taste...
