  1. Thanks Greg! Good to know there's someone in the state who knows these boxes... Still looking for someone closer to home before I hike down to Geelong, inner Melb preferred if anyone's got recommendations?
  2. Thanks Stao. Would one of the ATR profiles offer a comparable response? Just in case I wanted to keep the OEM turbo as is for putting things back to stock later.
  3. I hope this is the right place and apologies if this is covered in a FAQ somewhere, I couldn't find it. Btw the car is an R34 GTT auto with a stock turbo and Nistune, currently at 200rwkw. With a power goal of 250-280rwkw, and good response rather than outright peak power, what's the difference between an SS2 highflow and a comparable ATR bolt-on turbo? Pricewise they seem roughly on par and the supporting mods would be very similar, is that correct?
  4. Anyone got any auto trans shop recommendations for Melbourne?
  5. Hey Adrian, there's a couple of threads with the Blitz on R34s here: http://www.skylinesa...turn-flow-fmic/ http://www.skylinesa...l-r34-series-2/ I think clearance is always going to be an issue with turnflows on lowered cars. I've got the Trust vertical flow that you've been chasing and I manage to scrape it a bit every now and then even though it's a different orientation. I've heard of several people running the Trust in the near 300rwkw range so it'll flow just fine. But then again, some manage that power level with the cheapo Cooling Pro units too.
  6. Umm my quote for these was $700 for parts only, delivered, plus $100 core change fee that will be refunded. I thought you have to drop the whole trans to install, just $200 at a trans shop sounds like a great deal? Fair point about manual vs. auto with forced induction, I do like the power delivery with the Tiptronic and it's only ~200rwkw at the moment...
  7. Thanks for jumping in Stao, and sorry about the slow reply! Good information there, cheers. Quick question on the turbos, given the power goal what's the difference between an SS2 highflow and a comparable ATR bolt-on turbo? I'd be chasing responsiveness rather than massive peak power. Pricewise they seem roughly on par, is that right? Ok, I'll have to have a proper think about this now... A recent quote from MV lists stage 2 shift kit at just under $400 (valve body only) plus just under $300 for the billet 2nd gear servo. Factor in labour and it starts adding up. A complete rebuild - without the shift kit - is $3-3.5k from what I know. Then if you want high stall it's additional cost again. So it looks like if you want to strengthen the auto to handle the 250-280rwkw, you can have a manual conversion for the same money or even a touch less - does this sound right??
  8. Apologies for digging up an old thread. I've had the same 'stuck in 3rd' problem occasionally, pretty much follows the same pattern as described here by multiple people, and has so far always been resolved by restarting the car. I want to get the box checked and serviced by someone who is familiar with the R34 Tiptronics and knows what they're doing. Can anyone recommend a shop in Melbourne inner suburbs? Thanks guys. Forgot: Also considering putting in a shift kit and trans cooler so if the shop has experience in these, even better. Cheers.
  9. From what I know lowered King Springs are approximately F:3.7kg and R:3.1kg. These are stiffer than stock suspension, which means that stock is even lower than these spring rates. I personally would only consider 10/8 for the track. What kind of roads do you normally drive on? Pricewise, ~$800 delivered is a good deal for coilovers - you can't even really get new shocks & lowered springs for that kind of money. However, BC's are about 1.2K so not that much more and there's lots of people running them successfully. Up to you.
  10. Same as the coupe as far as the mounts go, just make sure you get the correct type for the rear though (fork for RWD GTT, eyelet for RWD GT, I think 4WD is eyelet too). However, the weight distribution between coupe and sedan is different, which affects your spring rate selection. Ideally you'd want the car corner weighted before choosing your springs. I didn't, just went with F:6 and R:5, on the assumption that there's a bit more weight in the rear of the sedan.
  11. What spring rates did you get them in? The adjustable damping setting can only do so much. IMHO the standard BC BR rates of 8kg front, 6kg rear are still pretty stiff for your average roads. I went softer, with 6kg front and 5kg rear, and I've been very happy with the ride and control. There's some more discussion on the BC BR's on R34 GTT here.
  12. Well that's the problem, from what I've read basic brush + normal paint job just won't last. Some people have to repaint theirs every couple of months. The stencil + spray idea seems easiest as it's very quick to redo. However, I can imagine it starting to look a bit messy around the edges after a few times. Has anyone got first hand experience with stickers/decals? How well do they last?
  13. Ok so I'm kinda fond of the Idlers style big lettering on the side of the tyres. What's the best way to achieve this? I'm assuming a lot of these are stencil + rattle can jobs but surely there are other ways? Is there anyone in Oz doing something similar to http://www.tirestickers.com/ ? Here's what I'm after (via Speedhunters): RWB Idlers style:
  14. I have had BC BR's on my R34 GTT Sedan for about a year, very happy with them. After eons of research I went with custom rates of F:6kg and R:5kg. Turns out these work very well on all types of normal roads in Victoria. In fact, I would rate these over the Yellow Koni + King Spring combo on the Monaro that was over twice the price of the BR's back in the day. I'm running the BR's with bigger swaybars front and rear, a Whiteline camber kit and alignment by Trutrack. Oh yeah I got mine from JustJap, they sent me the wrong springs at first (stock 8/6) but didn't muck around getting them swapped for the custom ones. I also got a very recent build date on my coilovers, maybe another reason to order with custom spring rates?
  15. Saw this mentioned on another forum, thought it was an interesting read: Car and Driver: Effects of Upsized Wheels and Tires Tested Plus-Size Models: Testing the performance effects of upsizing wheels and tires (April 2010) They tested near-identical tyres on different wheel sizes in 15",16",17",18" and 19" on a 2010 Golf. Here's the summary graphic: Obviously it's a fairly sedate front-wheel drive car but it's interesting that 17" and 18" seem to be in the sweet spot from a performance perspective. Going 19" resulted in slower acceleration, lateral grip, lower economy and more noise.
  16. After much pondering I ended up getting a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 from IT-T in Sydney, just over $800 delivered. People on Tyrereviews seem to regard these highly: http://www.tyrerevie...symmetric-2.htm I'll post some experiences once they're on. Cheers
  17. Thanks guys! So about these Michelin Super Sports, it looks that over at http://www.michelin.com.au/ the sizing only starts at 225/45R18 (for $505/ea ) so no 17's unfortunately. I'm not sure if I'm game enough to order from TireRack... OzzyTyres has the following on sale in 235/45R17: $154/ea GOODYEAR 94Y EAGLE F1 $155/ea DUNLOP 94W DZ101 $159/ea MICHELIN 94Y PILOT ALPIN PA3 $159/ea MICHELIN 94Y PILOT PRIMACY $201/ea PIRELLI 94Y PZERO ROSSO ASSYMETRICAL $238/ea PIRELLI 97Y PZERO Are any of these close to the Super Sports in performance?
  18. Car: 1998 R34 GTT sedan (RWD) Suspension: BC Racing BR coilovers F:6kg/R:5kg, bigger swaybars Ride height: Lowered but not silly Power: ~200rwkw Wheels: Stock R34 GTT 17x7.5 Tyre sizes I am looking for: Stockish 235/45R17, or maybe 245/40R17 at a push. I want same size fronts & rears for easier rotating. I am looking for quality tyres for street use only. Looking for excellent dry grip and very good wet grip. Reduced tyre noise a bonus but not a must. Happy with a slightly softer compound and 15-20k life. Still I don't want a (semi) semi slick because wet grip is important. The best tyres I ever had were Yokohama Advan Sport V103S, which I would rate at 9/10 for both dry and wet. Is there anything similar, from any manufacturer, in the ~$300 per corner price range? What would you recommend? Thanks guys.
  19. The Monaro is currently under offer. I will update the thread once the sale is complete.
