  1. Hope you don't mind, but here's a page of details for the various Nissan turbos for the GT-R's: http://www.systranbox.com/systran/box?syst...an_f=1086005489 The ones being sold are mentioned as being R33 GT-R N-1 turbo's. I have a set of the BNR32 NISMO turbos and although not fully tuned yet, know they have great potential. Cheers Brendan
  2. Any idea if you can get these to light up in a red or deep orange rather than the blue/green? Cheers Brendan
  3. Karen Just a suggestion, but considering you're in WA, why not go speak to a few people around town. Ken, I can see you have your hand up (he's in Malaga), and am sure you'd spare a few minutes to allow questions to be asked and a couple of pics of the Targa prepped 32 you have. Either than, or speak up in the WA section, I'm sure you could get Brett (EVL R33?) to give you his opinion on his R33 GT-R. And Micko will certainly help out with the R32 aspect as well. Cheers Brendan BTW, if you check out my site, you'll find a little background section on the R32 GT-R there that may help out along with specs & photos on the R32 GT-R V-spec (1993) edition.
  4. No it doesn't. I helped out putting in the mounts into the Silvia. Basically loosen the nuts for the mounts, unhook the exhaust (might not have too), and jack the block up from underneath. Remove the old mounts then wrestle for 30 mins getting the new ones in. Because the new ones aren't compressed, you have to use something (crowbar or big screwdriver) to lever the engine over when putting the mounts back in. Gearbox mounts are much easier. This was done on a drive on hoist too btw. Cheers Brendan
  5. When I had my engine rebuilt last year, I figured that 10yrs on the original mounts (assumption) would definitely have taken their toll. As the original mounts get older, they split, allowing the engine and gear to twist more than normal causing stress on other things like exhaust mounts etc etc. I had both engine and gearbox mounts replaced as par for the course. Also had this done in my Silvia, both engine and gearbox mounts as was told that it's best to do both at the same time (which sounded logical to me). The original Silvia mounts were so bad that my dump pipe was bouncing off the firewall and the gear stick sometimes wasn't where I left it do to twist. This all changed once the mounts were new. Gearshift was cleaned up, and it felt as though the engine responded better too (seat of the pants feeling only). General smoothness when idling was also cleaned up. I would say that if your car is getting up around the 10yr mark, then start budgeting for a set of mounts. Cheers Brendan
  6. Am on my 2nd R32 GT-R now, and I love them. Very different driver from my Silvia I had - more of a GT car. First one I had was a lowish kms car (V-spec too) that was in almost showroom condition - as such the initial cost was very very high. Power wasn't too bad for stock (246rwhp) and handling was very good due to Nismo suspension. Normal servicing was the only maintenance it required and it comfortably (relative of course) took the family (2 adults + 2 kiddies) down south and the boot managed to fit in a portacot, pram, doona's, pillows and luggage. Suspension wasn't too harsh and the exhaust was rather quiet until you opened it up (then is screamed like a banshee). Now on my second GT-R and this time went the other way regarding initial cost. Got a fairly reasonable price, but after putting it on the dyno (1mth after getting it), it spun a big end. Kms on this one was up around the 100K mark, so it was getting on. The turbs were replaced before I bought it because they found an exhaust turbine wheel in the cat. After stripping the engine down, it had been treated very very hard in J. Moral is of course get the engine and everything else checked out by a reputable workshop who know their stuff. A report will cost you around $150, but could save you having to rebuild it 2mths down the track. Having said that though, I now have a relatively bullet proof engine, new suspension and Brembos all round. Dyno is this Thursday and hoping for a nice round 400rwhp. turbo_fury, I notice you're in Perth. Quite welcome to PM me if you want me to take you for a spin sometime. Cheers Brendan
  7. That would be Crockenberg Motors. Malcolm is the man spinning the spanners. Top mechanic and top bloke. Used to get my old Sigma Turbo maintained by him. Located at 5/77 John Street, Welshpool, (08) 9358 0302. As for Evo VS GT-R, I'd go GT-R all the way. Reasons, not based on a 4-door shopping trolley, won't get mistaken for a GLi riced up, plenty of good aftermarket parts (new & used) available around Australia. But then again - as most people have said you're only going to get biased decisions here.
  8. Hi fella's I used to own a 1993 R32 GT-R V-spec and when I sold it I put together a site with plenty of info. There's also a pic of the build plate in the gallery with info on how to identify a V-spec and V-spec II. It was also painted a greyish blue: http://www.ipixel.com.au/vspec32/ Was sold to someone in Melbourne. Nice bloke who was going to take good care of it : ( Cheers Brendan
  9. R34GTRNUR, you have my permission to use the photos of my old 1993 R32 GT-R V-spec (stock): http://www.ipixel.com.au/vspec32/gallery/ Just stick a thanks and link back to my site (www.ipixel.com.au/vspec32) is all I ask : ) Cheers Brendan
  10. Thanks Sydneykid, will look into the use of pineapples next time I head into the workshop. As for the HICAS, not much about what I may have read, but found plenty about the kits and the advantages. Might have to save up for that one after a decent intercooler and cam gears go in. Appreciate all the good feedback. Cheers Brendan
  11. Thanks for replying Sydneykid. I actually have the Works pkg sans shocks of course. So that includes a few bushes and the sway bars. Unfortunately I've just found out I'm going to have to wait for the shock guy to do another more appropriate rebuild due to family problems. For me to get the appropriate Whiteline shocks now it's going to cost over $1200, but I've paid $1K already for mine to be rebuilt : ( Suppose it's going to have to wait. Is there a simple way of shutting down the HICAS on the GT-R, or do I need to install something like a HICAS Locking Kit (eg. Tomei). Thought I had read somewhere that it was possible to route the hydraulics back around on to itself. Also, would the subframe bushes (pineapples?) be a worthwhile addition? Was going to do it before but was advised against it due to noise (this was when the wife was driving it with a coupla kids in the back). Cheers Brendan
  12. OK, managed to find out the standard spring rates for the R32 GT-R, they're as follows: Fronts - Linear spring: 134lbs/in or 2.4kg/mm Rears - Linear spring: 151lbs/in or 2.7kg/mm Here's the standard shock absorber ratings - ie. damping force (at 0.3m (1.0ft)/s): Front Extension side: 1,746N (178kg, 392lb) Front Compression side: 500N (51, 112lb) Rear Extension side: 1,106N (113kg, 249lb) Rear Compression side: 402N (41, 90lb) These measurements are taken from the R32 GT-R service manual (Australian version I presume cause it's english). Cheers Brendan
  13. Hehehe, PM me about it Gav. But don't expect a reply ; )
  14. Hi All Does anyone have any idea what the standard spring rates are for an R32 (1992) Skyline GT-R? I have a set of Whiteline springs as part of the Works package for that car, but the shocks were out of stock for some time, so had the std shocks rebuilt. Unfortunately the rebuilt ones still aren't cutting it with a lot of bouncing at the front (suspension guy says it's cavetating). Here's the details of the Whiteline spring rates that I got from Whiteline: Front (Whiteline #83157) - Linear spring : 191 lbs/in Rear (Whiteline #70191) - Progressive : 150 - 204 lbs/in or (based on basic conversion) Front (Whiteline #83157) - Linear spring : 3.4kg/mm Rear (Whiteline #70191) - Progressive : 2.7 to 3.6kg/mm Sydneykid, I know you're pretty cluey on suspension setup, do these springs sound about right. Application will be street and some track work, with about 350-400rwhp. Car rides on 18x10's (cause I like em - http://www.ipixel.com.au/temp/p1-qf-r32gtr/) that weigh in at 7.45kg sans tyres. Getting shocks rebuilt again to hopefully clear up the handling probs, feel the shocks just aren't heavy enough for the spring rates. Cheers Brendan
  15. Could you please confirm what brakes the rotors and pads are for? R33 Brembo's or Sumitomo's? Thanks Brendan
  16. Nah dude, sell the 2-door skyline and get a 4-door skyline. Having said that though, the boot space in the 33 4-doors are crap, so a Stagea might be better (sorry for going OT).
  17. Yep, 31 turning 32 in March. But most of the youngins are pretty respecting of the older folk ; )
  18. Just had a quick look. Rears there's plenty of room (30mm+) between edge of rim and suspension strut. For the front, there's less room between the upper link support upright (couldn't find correct name in manual), but seems to be around 15-20mm clearance when wheels are centred. Biggest clearance problems would be between tyres and inner (plastic) guards. On full lock, the rear of the tyre (being inside guards) has minimal if any clearance (haven't heard any rubbing), so tyres larger than 245 section width could rub (of course then you have the option of removing these and lipping the guards. Height wise, I'm using Whiteline's lowered springs from 'the Works' package. Guard lip is around the 325-327mm (note: very dodgy measuring with a 300mm ruler) from the centre of the wheel hub. If you've got a good relationship with your tyre shop, they may allow a few different fittings of tyre sizes to work out the best for your particular application. Cheers Brendan
  19. I'll find out prices (I did a swap on my old P1 Racing rims and contra work for them) and get back to you. BTW, they're an extremely lightweight rim for an 18" coming in at 7.45kg/rim. Don't expect prices for the rims alone to be under $1K each though. Otherwise contact Jeff Ash at C-Red (they're the official Australian agent for Buddy Club) and he'll be more than happy to help out in price department. Cheers Brendan
  20. As a matter of fact yes. Although they do stick out a little. Have fitted them today actually: Buddy Club P1 QF 18" x 10.00JJ +12 Offset 245/40R18 Tyres Tyres are stretched on these rims but brings the tread under the guards: http://www.ipixel.com.au/temp/p1-qf-r32gtr/ Let me know what you think. Cheers Brendan
  21. Thanks Sumo. Maybe we look at going in for next season then. Micko, as for not having enough experience isn't really an excuse with MC, as Nizmo said, it's more fun than competitive. But then again, we felt County Dump Racing were playing for Sheep Stations a couple of times last year. It was my first bit of 'competitive' driving when I did it last year. I went in thinking I can only get better. Unfortunately my tyres got worse - so although I had a great time going sideways, my times didn't get much better ; ) So we have a tentative team for possible entry next season (maybe) - Nizmo, Micko, Sumo and myself. Any other possible takers. Cheers Brendan
  22. Is there no one with a GT-R in this group who'd like to do a bit of competitive driving? If not, how about anyone with a Skyline who'd be interested in committing themselves to a season of MC?
  23. Yeah, sorry. You're right. CAMS 2S license is required for competing in the MC Motorsport Challenge. You'll need to be a part of a CAMS approved car club such as AFARCC and then apply for your CAMS license (there's an office in Dog Swamp). And yes you can compete on the temp license they give you once you pay. I also think you can fill out a form for 2S license on the day.
  24. Hi All Just wondering if there'd be interest in those who've got GT-R's would be willing to partake in a bit of MC Motorsport action this season. We'd be looking at a team of 4 plus someone who would be in reserve should one of the main team can't make it. It starts soon: DATES: 8-Feb-04 7-Mar-04 11-Apr-04 9-May-04 Finals 19-Jun-04 COSTS: It is $55 per round. You must pay for round 1 and round 4 upfront and preferably before the 1st round occurs. So, if you've got an R32, R33 or R34 GT-R, let us know if you'd be interested. Cheers Brendan
  25. Yeah, I will once he's back from J. He's back to work on Monday, just thought someone may have already tried it. Cheers Brendan
