I was part of the SilviaWA club at this years Western Salon and was quite surprised at the low level of organisation - especially when it came to floor layouts, space before the event. I know of a few people that were disappointed because their originally agreed position was taken without them knowing, and nothing was done to change it - ending up being tucked away in an area not really visible or well trafficed (bad for businesses). Oh, and the provision to entrants of floor plans that are to scale - a must in planning a stand, along with where power will be coming from and extra facilities that will be available.
It's imperative for those entering the show that they're clear on where and how much room they'll have to setup their stand/s - lights, stands, barriers cars etc. We had to change the plans for our clubs stand a week or so before the event which meant changing plans for lighting and other equipment required.
Another problem with the Salon was the choice of location. Now the Belmont Racecourse may be great (especially with the car parks etc outside), but it's extremely cramped (for the number of cars that were there) and was very difficult for the majority of entrants to get their cars in and out to the driving and dyno events. The roof height was OK where we were but in other areas it was rediculously low for that type of event. We were lucky to be located next to the rear entrance so all cars on the stand made it out to the Dyno and driving events.
As for the ladies, other than what was organised by the major sponsor and a few of the entrants, it was pretty lame. And the so called 'bikini' comp was turned into a 'modelling' comp at the last moment because there wasn't enough entrants (asked to come forward from the crowd over the duration of the event). The location for the this little show was pretty terrible too with limited scope and height for everyone to see. At least some pre-arranged ladies would have sorted the problem out for lack of numbers.
Anyway, thats my 2c.
Cheers
