  1. Rev210 your chase for 12's will be difficult with the stock turbo and impossible with the stock intercooler, I doubt 10psi will get you 12's. Delay the little mods like fans, pulleys and cam gears and get a large FMIC, with the SAFC and an increase in boost a 30rwkw+ gain should be seen, if your still short then try the little things but the intercooler must be your next mod.
  2. Thanks for the replys, but I know all the "I heard this and that" stories, what I want is a real life no bull experienced first hand modded XR6 story, or are they all still stock?
  3. I finally turned my boss and a work mate over to the darkside of the FORCEd induction performance scene, they both sold there V8 HSV's and bought new XR6 turbos. Now they both want to increase boost but are concerned with the many stories about the engine and gear box's blowing up, are they rumours and do you know of anyone running higher boost? One has an auto the other manual. Is it true that FORD can tell if the car has seen more boost at service time? Any info would be good as I've promised that there turbo can produce some good kw, now I'm a little concerned that the rest of the car might break?
  4. You can't really use my SAFC settings on your car as like you said everyone has diff mods, and my stock A/F ratio could be higher or lower than yours. For $100 you can get it done properly on a Dyno.
  5. I've tried the Unichip and the car made less power, I settled on an SAFC in the end as I still run the standard turbo otherwise get the PowerFC.
  6. Cheapest option would be sell the NA VL and buy a VL turbo, that's what I did many years ago, I went from NA VL to turbo Calais for $3500.
  7. Yes the SAFC can run the car correctly at full throttle, its everything below, that will be wrong.
  8. Can it be bolted up to the factory position, do the 2 bolts mate up?
  9. Yeah I guess 192rwkw is believable with the correct A/F ratio, did they give you your ratio? Mine was rich around 10:1 which was why I went the SAFC, occasionally though the odd Skyline won't run rich when modified and therefore make more power.
  10. Well REV210 all I can say is try a pod and see if you like it, I've tried both and I like the way the car drove with the Pod way better.
  11. I've got a Hybrid intercooler but it's not made by Apexi, it's size is 600x300x75 bar n plate, probably good for around 500hp as I'm sure the Apexi also would be.
  12. My car came with a pod but to pass a VIC Roads inspection I had to borrow an airbox, the car felt flat and lifeless, no throttle responsiveness at all, so to all you guys still using standard box GET RID OF IT you don't know what your missing. I agree with putting a heat shield around the pod too.
  13. OK for those of us who already have SAFC is it worth upgrading to SAFC II? I think the knock warning is a good idea, however when they say settings in 200rpm increments, does that mean that the unit fills the inbetween settings like the current SAFC?
  14. Funny, I was 29 when I bought mine and RACV wouldn't touch it, I've got 2 other cars with them, house, contents, life etc... Finally I went with TORQUE Insurance $900.
  15. It's impossible to build a one off chip to suit all R33's coz everycar is diff. Tuning should only be done on a Dyno in real time where the tuner can see your A/F ratio and power curve. For $660 fitted and tuned I bought an Apexi SAFC, it allows adjustment of the A/F ratio with good results, 40rwkw in the midrange and 20rwkw peakpower improvements.
  16. I wouldn't say the XR6t is open to modifications, they tried boosting it to 10psi and it kept blowing head gaskets and gear boxes. Apparently Ford are using the Borgwarner T5 and said that the V8 XR would recieve a Tremec box because the T5 isn't strong enough, the V8 only makes 20kw more than the turbo! I can't imagine the seq/auto would be very strong either, I'm sorry but in my opinion Ford has built a weak engine/trans combo around a GT40 turbo that has the potential to destroy it.
  17. Apparently JPC in Melb recommend this mod to supply more power, it generally goes after the IC. They say there've never had one break either, AFM wires are very strong.
  18. A cheaper option is to get a brass needle valve tap (I think that's what there called) Now remove the solenoid and plumb the hoses into each end of the tap, you now have adjustable boost control (open to increase boost) that won't spike like a Turbosmart BC, and your A/F ratio won't be upset cause it's still venting off into the intake pipe (will still be rich though, but not more). Incedently my car used to run 7 then 9psi stock, with big exhaust.
  19. Yes but an insurance company can't deny a claim if they have accepted the 17x9 wheels as a modification, it's in black and white. Any way this rim size law is only in NSW is it? As far as I know in Vic you can't have any part of the wheel/tyre stick out from the panel work.
  20. This is all news to me, I've got 17x8 and 17x9 rims that are fully insured no questions asked, just recently got the car inspected by both the police and Vic Roads and the rims were never mentioned.
  21. Anyone know if there planning a dyno session at RacePace soon?
  22. That's SpringNats weekend in Shepparton, I can't leave town on the best weekend of the year. Change the date and I'll have 5 cars that'll come.
  23. Sounds like a great project, only thing I would change is the EMS for a PowerFC.
  24. Hey Warpspeed have you fitted the GTR plenum yet, I'm curious as I always thought the GTR head was different therefore the plenum and turbo manifolds won't fit, let us know ok.
  25. 600x300x75 is fine, it won't cost more than something slightly smaller and it will have more cooling surface area, therefore more efficient.
