Bio E-Flex A new choice in fuel has arrived: Caltex Bio E-Flex, a fuel that contains up to 85% ethanol blended with petrol. Bio E-Flex provides an energy option beyond the traditional fuel mix - something we can all feel good about. The high renewable ethanol content in Bio E-Flex helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions and our reliance on traditional fossil fuels like petrol, so it's a better choice for the environment and Australia. The ethanol in Bio E-Flex is made from sources such as waste starch from processing of wheat, molasses from sugar production and sorghum, which is grown for ethanol manufacture and low-grade stock feed. Ethanol is a renewable alternative to traditional fuels which are made from crude oil. Plants which are used to produce ethanol absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. When the ethanol component of Bio E-Flex is burned in engines, the carbon dioxide released goes into the atmosphere and is used by plants to grow. This "cycling" of carbon creates less build-up of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere than fossil fuels. The emission savings will depend on the plants used, ethanol production processes and freight. The ethanol in Bio E-Flex helps reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, which improves Australia's energy security through a more diverse supply of transport fuels. Bio E-Flex is specially formulated to meet your flex fuel car's requirements all year round. Different seasons can change the way fuel performs in your engine, so Caltex will adjust the blend of ethanol from 70 to 85% between seasons to ensure your engine performs correctly. Bio E-Flex can only be used in flex fuel vehicles, so please consult your vehicle manufacturer if you're unsure about the correct fuel to use in your car.
