  1. not sure on the cam size as they were in the head already, the lift is 8.9mm which ive calculated not sure about duration
  2. yeah i was chasing 350rwkw anything over was a bonus, it is definatelly fun to drive, traction is a problem now lol
  3. well i got my car finally tuned today after a run in tune, ive made 350rwkw on 22psi boost i wanted to run more boost but i think 350 is enough for now
  4. thanks buddy, the rebuild kit was $2250 posted to adelaide, but i did add a bit more for the i beam rods so not quiet sure what was the exact figure value for money i think cos its all you need really
  5. UPDATE!!! well i got my car mildly tuned only on wastegate spring pressure 10psi but creeps to 13psi and made around 250ish rwkw. (i expected less) my Tuner said just do drive it for another 500-600km just on that boost, driving it normal and giving it a bit but nothing too extreme. Still looking forward to the full tune at 23-25psi should be within couple of weeks, cant wait!!
  6. just finished running in, done 1300km will get it tuned on monday to 25 psi ,anything over 350kw on rears is a bonus ill let you know how i go
  7. Here is a couple of vids of a first start up need to fix the idle its idling too high http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drETUueuCEI&feature=youtu.be http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nD0sMNBzm1o&feature=channel&list=UL the video quality is a bit crappy especially in the second vid
  8. Hi guys well my engine is done unfortunatelly my builder didnt take any photos :( a bit dissapointed but oh well am happy the engine is up and running and now i just have to drive it to wear it in a bit before the tune here is a few photos i took piston rings getting gaped crank is in ( this is as far as i have it when it was getting build ) looking good just test fitting see what it looks like nearly there all done running in process as we speak
  9. i know i havent been realy updating so often but the engine will be put together sometime either this week or next week, was waiting for the oil pump to come then wrong pump sent arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh so frustrated at the moment cos i just get empty promisses of people that will suply me with parts f*#$ really shits me, at the end ill just end up going with a standard rb26 pump and upgraded gears cos i cant be stuffed waiting no more, i really need to get the car on the road.
  10. hey guys just a bit of an update, i got my block and other bits back from the machine shop today here are some photos crank collar fitted balanced and polished head was faced for perfect gasket seal block bored, honed and decked pistons just test fitted looks good so far cbf to mask everything properly so i just used 10c and 20c pieces to mask off the wels plugs lol
  11. well yesterday i dropped my head, block, pistons, rods, crank, clutch+flywheel, harmonic balancer all to be cleaned and balanced at ADVANCED ENGINE RECONDITIONERS in salsbury - block is going to receive a deep clean paint, dirt etc etc - will also deck the block 2 or 3 thou - Bore and hone 20thou - Balance everything - crank is going to be machined and a crank collar is going to be fitted - Head is going to be cleaned and faced should be all done by the end of next week I also bought a new rb30 water pump, sump gasket, manifold gasket and few other things. So while all that is being done i sandblasted my turbo compressor housings and my engine mounts. i also cleaned out and painted alternator, starter motor. and exhaust manifoild in heat proof paint the paint is fresh thats y it may look a bit funny compressor housing sandblasted looks better than black all assembled ready for 25psi of boost now we just play a waiting game for the block and all
  12. HO HO HO MERRY CHRISTMAS, well it felt like christmas today i got my engine rebuild kit pistons, rods, bearings, headgasket thanks to Brad from spool imports he has been a great help and sent them over fast If i am lucky 2mrrow ill go and drop my head, block, crank, rods, pistons for a 20thou bore and hone, clean, balance, facing off the block and head for a perfect gasket fitment etc etc. here are some photos
  13. Well just a lil update guys i have stripped the whole motor and will be sending it back to sydney for a rebuild by the guy who originally put the whole engine in the car/ rebuild. I have also found out a full story in behind this engine and it ends up that the guy from SMD workshop has bought the short block of anothey guy who wanted to do the conversion, so basically he has lied to the guy from the workshop that the engine has been done, it all looked legit with shiny pistons and all but pistons were only new rb30 pistons. I do appologise for calling him a lier and a bullshit artist. i just didnt know the full story but still doesnt change the fact that couple of the things he said didnt make sense anyway ill leave it at that. we just got off on the wrong foot. anyway. will be rebuilding the engine properly and hope it all goes well
  14. lol yeah i have the same problem i cant browse anything in front of her so she doesnt see the prices lol, she got preety freaked out when i sold the sway bar for $80, she was like who would pay that much money for that, lol
  15. $3K OH OK i didnt think it costs that much but i guess they did everything so it may all add up bit by bit
  16. thanks buddy, that is a great write up and great build u did there if you dont mind me asking how much did it cost for the block work, balance, machining etc??
  17. yeah i am a bit excited about the build, i would have done a much bigger engine set up but this came at the wrong time as am getting married later this year so yeah dont want to spend that much money but just something that would be reasonably safe for 400kw mark, am glad turbo is still going good, they are absolutelly amazing turbos and the new gtx are even better, morie from HP in a box has told me u had a bit of a tough time too with the engine but glad everythings alrite now
  18. yeah spool has either 9:1 or 8.2 with r33 head but it does change with 34 head as it has a smaller combustion chamber
  19. it will all end up being 8.5:1cr with cp pistons and 51thou head gasket combined
  20. And final update for today is that ive ordered a forged rebuilt kit from spool imports this kit is with the h beam rods but i upgraded and went with the I beams in case i decide to go over 450rwkw cant wait until i start building Also the workshop that had sold my friend the engine (my engine now) said to send him the block back and he shall put forged pistons and hone the bore, event hough he said hes gonna do all that i still went and bought this kit, so after everything is done i might have a set of spare pistons and rods
  21. FINALLY when i got my engine crane i pulled the block out of the car its called just the bay now no engine in it getting the rod bolts undone all pistons out oil pump and water pump off
  22. the only thing that has been changed was the rod bearings, ARP rod bolts and arp head studs maybe the engine was freshend up with the ACL rb30 kit which u can pick up for around $800, I measured the cylinder bore and it was standard ive been told today that it was definatelly forged, the workshop that my friend got it off got it off of another guy whos originally built it, if this makes sence so basically workshop has bought this block of the X guy and then sold it to my friend thinking that it was properly build but anyways am starting to confuse myself ARP rod bolts (good stuff) rod bearing cylinder bore it measured exactly 86.00 the first time i measured it indicatind it definately hasnt been honed
  23. well since i still didnt get my crane i had to do it the hard way, i just shouldve gone to another shop that had one in stock but oh well yep thats right take the piston out and see what the drama is. when i took the piston out i could clearly see a couple of things, first the ringland of the piston has cracked/broken and the second they are stock rb30 pistons hmmmmmmm sniff sniff you smell that? Bullcrap heres a few photos ohh yeah am sure many of you can confirm that these pistons are standard genuine rod you cant really tell if its been shot pined or not
  24. after pulling the head off first thing i saw was the piston design and it made me wonder the same thing, at the end it wasnt built well it was but with standard items
  25. If anyones wondering y am doing everything on the car is that i didnt have an engine crane at the time, i sold my old one ages ago thinking ill never need it again and here i am lol. ive ordered one but had arrived a bit too late. so the next thing to do was to take the head off to see any physical damage that could be seen in a cylinder bore, head or piston. when i took the head off i didnt see much at all except a bit of oil in the troubled cylinder
