  1. MEGA EXCITED...COSWORTH SIERRA ...brought to you by Ryan and Leon. Thanks boys! Its a rattly, doesn't go for shit 80s Ford. But man I am going to be cool pumping Jon Secada and Pat Benatar whilst doing laps of Shep
  2. They were either Yoko AD008 or the Federal 595RSR. John punts that car well... I dont know the R33-T67 driver so cant comment on his ability, but his times were well respectable so he cant be a slouch. Whilst I have driven my thing on the track for years...I openly admit I am there to have a fun and learn and know I am not that great/fast a driver. Its a slow learning curve when you have to scrape together the money for entry, tyres, fuel, brake pads etc . In that footage my car had old, square RE55s as I had flat spotted them badly earlier in the day...you can see plumes of smoke early in the vid. The thing had a shocking vibration and I had trouble stopping the car due to flat spots. So was about 1.5-2 seconds off the usual lap times. But didnt affect me mid corner and getting on the loud pedal so acceleration comparison still stands. I was really sweating the R33-T67 behind me and was regularly checking to see if I was holding him up. At Sandown/Phillip Island his extra grunt would have had him past me as the acceleration post 180km/h would be an advantage (I expect)but it was very even.
  3. Well, Kimi and Romain not off to a great first day of second testing. Chassis is defective Oh well, at least Dan is looking quick.
  4. That would be half the fun of building something like a DR30. The challenge of getting the last 15% right. I am a long way from being a good service guy, but there are things that jump out at you when you are servicing or trying to repair cars in the heat of battle. It would be cool to put a car up for sale and have a reputation for building cars that the general consensus would be "thats built by xyz...its a good buy". Its a curse from hanging around all the old boys who know what is right and wrong as they have had a hand in building 30 cars over 40 years They mention names of builders and those in the know understand why the asking price is what it is! Take this car for example. It has had two owners since the guy I know built it...He has been at me to buy it as it would be a great instant Tarmac Rally car just add driver and navigator. Appears to have lost its Hollinger and AP brakes etc , and the main drawback is it has been 12-13 years since he sold it . Just add driver and navigator and go...for what can only be 1/10 of the cars original build cost it still has to be a reasonable thing for the asking price http://www.my105.com/ListingDetails/tabid/65/p/1/k/pulsar/id/6383/Default.aspx#
  5. Plus, services cars with gas cylinders that you need to rent etc. I think far too few people put proper jacking points on their car. They spend thousands on cages but dont weld some intelligently placed plate to the feet of the cage that allows you to painlessly slip a jack and stands under there! Shits me no end when I am the one scared to jack their cars as I have to use the POS std points on low cars with skirts, lips etc
  6. I understand that 1000%...sure as shit easier/better/worse/different paths to what I have taken...good thing I am not trying to win anything either because I sure as shit have never won a thing on merit in my life When I have gone drag racing I normally pay more attention to the burnout then I do the actual run But perhaps you and I are different to most...most people want the quickest car for the least spend. Me, I just want to fark around with shit and understand why or why not it worked. God word that the car will be ready end of next week so 73HTA and tune will be over the Labour Day long weekend. May even get the 18G on if the install is as straight forward as I hope
  7. I never sell anything So unless it gets stolen or written off it will be going into my personal museeum off what I once thought was cool. I have purchased a few of those kit car magazines out of the UK trying to get an understanding of which cars are good, and which are rubbish. The Caterham appears to be the clear leader, with Westfield a distant second when it comes to the quality of the suspension, mostly rear end and brakes/handling etc. If someone with the relevant experience can point to another, cheaper kit then I would happily look at it. At the moment every 3-4 weeks I just search for an Academy car or R300 Race Car with a view of rebuilding it and putting Honda S200 running gear in it
  8. What the hell is wrong with your car these days? If it needs tyres then I can help with those...lol I need a car to drive Actually, I need someone to drive my car up from Melbourne...
  9. GoPro and POV Damn you Ash, posting between my two posts. I was just trying to show 3 vids of the same car using different cameras in pretty difficult situations AND , what is it with SAU not liking youtubes one day, but fine the next? I am missing something?
  10. I have both Radcam and GoPro and i think the Radcam just edges it. The new GoPro with external mic could be a good thing, the picture quality in varying lights seems to self adjust better. The other negative on the GoPro is understandwing what the hell you are actually filming, a bluetooth link to your phone to adjust and setup woudl be a good feature. Below is footage with a Radcam You can see the open top car with wind noise, changing light conditions/sun etc is a problem for all in varying degrees. The other hiccup is youtube seems to kill the quality of the vid when you upload so again you lose some of the quality that the GoPro and Radcam have over POV
  11. Yeh, not a 1000% conclusive anything video. I just thought it was interesting how such a wide range of engine outputs didn't really yield anything "fark me dead" different in way of how it got from one end of the straight to the other. I mean accelerating from 60km/h to 180km/h would be a pretty good test for acceleration. (My R32 is 1335kgs with no 5-10L of fuel and no driver ) And the only reason why I thought an R32 GTR rim would be a go for a run at Calder was I can get my hands on a pair and figure a 16x8 +30 is going to be better then my usual rims for fitting a drag style radial with a bigger sidewall...but fark it. Its all a wank, when I run again at the drags I will just run my old track tyres/ rims 17x9.5 so I am not scared of burning money with the burnout
  12. What tyres would be best to run on an R32 GTR rim?
  13. I read that they are keeping Jack Daniels sponsorship. So guessing the livery will be largely black. I liked the old white, red and blue. But Nissan / Nismo colours these days are predominantly white with red, grey and black highlights....no blue anymore. So expect the car to be heavily black and white with heavy use of red Nissan badging
  14. Ditto, need to know timing and whether you can also squeeze a battery relocation in for me.
  15. Putting aside numbers for a second. Here is a 210rwkws Hypergear R33 GTS25t on good street/track tyres.(camera car). In fronf of him is an R33 GTS25t with a Trust T67-25G setup on RE55s. And in front of him me with my TD06-20G, I think i still had the std inlet plenum on at this stage. So you have 210rwkws/street tyres chasing 310rwkws/semis chasing 260rwkws/semis. John in the camera car is a bit mad and with slightly quicker cars in front of him does a brilliant job of hunting us down, and murders us both under brakes...but you see the acceleration isnt worlds apart...and funniest thing of all...you dont see the T67-25G R33 get near my bumper let along overtake... I think this vid puts the numbers people sometimes chase into perspective. Would have been real interesting if the camera car had RE55s and had the same corner speed. But an extra 100rwkws means we do get away but we are hardly leaving him for dead.
  16. Yeh its strange. You would think it would yield a better result. As I pointed out they are not overly different to my old Trust manifold in teh collector at different angles too...yet the Trust manifold was more responsive then the 6boost...so the merge collector is perhaps nice but a bit of a wank on a 6 cylinder...I can only put the better performance of the Trust manifold down to its 6-2-1 type arrangment vs the 6boost 6-1 merge collector. Perhaps the 6-1 works better when if its a twin scroll manifold so really only 6-2. I dunno....but after reading thread after thread of 6boost having the most effecient design and collector getting around and most responsive yadda, yadda I was a bit gutted to have spent money on the manifold, new gate, piping to go backwards in response. Marginal, but backwards all the same. They are durable and I expect it will give me years of trouble free running so that is always a bonus. So perhaps air is just lazy and these things dont really translate as you would hope. I agree that if you can get the design 100% right then you should aim for it....even if it doesnt correlate to a tangible performance increase....its nice to have things right. But that said when the manifold is 1/3 of the price you can be forgiven for forgetting niceties and worrying about performance and budget. For the moment its all conjecture until someone bolts one on and gives it a nudge.
  17. I have had this setup since early 2003. You would think I dont find it too annoying when you consider I have ran this setup for 9 years! I appreciate its not for everybody...but sticking with the 20 is definitely the cheapest, very reliable and easiest option.
  18. I suppose his setup uses 50% PULP
  19. Yeh, RB20s are terrible! Here is a comparo from a few years ago ... The RB20 gives away 500cc, half a point of compression and variable timing on the inlet cam ... AND is an older engine. So on paper where you dont have to pay for things or get them registered it seems a no brainer. But in the real world where your folding stuff is what you are handing over, and you want to get the car registered with correct engine numbers etc BassJunky R34: GCG Hi Flow, Poncams same tuner and dyno as me Abo Bob R34: GCG Hi Flow, built engine, think he had Poncams as well. Different dyno, different tune My setup: Std RB20, std plenum, a TD06-20G setup Main reason for the difference is the R32s higher final drive ratio adn 17" wheel vs 18s of the R34...but all are 4th gear pulls. Even if you only compare BassJunky's result and mine as they are both from teh same dyno and tuner....you can readily see that when you open up the taps why the RB20 easily keeps pace with the RB25NEO with a Hi-Flow GCG turbo. So not saying the RB25 isnt superior...but I sure as hell have made the decision to keep my money in my bank account and spend the money on tyres, fuel, oil and driving it at the only place you can legally and safely enjoy the performance. So getting back to the OP, fix the bolt on gremlins and ascertain the health of the engine. In which case a $600-800 wrecker motor with warranty is your quickest, cheapest and safest fix. If you have the budget to rip it all out and start again with a later model engine then go for it...just talk to industry people as it is not as cheap as many people make out PS...i will add both R34 engines popped at that power. One going forged internals after melting a ring land and Bass Junky's car having another engine put in...neither saw as much let along more track work then my car...though they both probably see more road kms than my car. Not to say their cars were inferior, both tops cars and modded carefully/well. A large part of the reason my engine is still running is luck, but a part of it is testament to the strength of the RB20
  20. All that will do is fix the arc that that the turbo flange and dump pipe will "swing" when it all glows red and there is a mechanical load on it. The best way to do a bracket is to use the tapped threads off the side of the head which are for engine removal. Throw a support to the underside of the turbo flange....support the dump/front pipe properly off the gearbox mount and even a thin walled stainless manifold will last for years.
  21. OR, for $150 just buy the back door Kando the Great housing that will bolt to your modded manifold! Even a well made spacer will just be introducing more bolts and gaskets to leak and decrease clearance to the inner strut upgright http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Turbine-Housing-Kinugawa-TD06SL2-20G-T67-25G-T3-8cm-AR61-V-Band-External-/270900070544?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3f12e70890#ht_2093wt_1270
  22. A few of us Aussie lads will be in Germany in March and hiring some Exiges to attend ... http://www.pistenclub.de/Portals/0/Anmeldung/Anmeldung_NBR_GP_2012-03-26_uk.pdf Get the R34 out for a crack
  23. Kimi will be Kimi if he wins a race or not he will be there...it will be more interesting to see how the new upstart goes I will be rooting for Grosjean to hand it to him. BIG ask, and I dont think it will happen but Grosjean is in a great position to show whether he is a good driver or a little bit special as he grows through the year. And really want to know what One have planned for 2012...I rang Foxtel the other week and they didnt have a clue what was happening with F1 coverage in 2012
  24. I dont care if they are fast or slow. They are CHEAP! Fark spending 2k on Yoko etc. Cant bring myself to pay that for tyres just to run around at a sprint day
