Aussie Supersprint 2011 Eastern Creek
Roy replied to R32 Stuart's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
It is funny when you look at it that way. But a laptime is a laptime is a laptime. That in itself is where the credibility lays. Not the "Champion of the World" titles etc. Though who is going to knock a trophy even if it is from a thrown fight against out gunned cars I am with FATZ and his idea for a series. I hope it gets off the ground as I reckon I am going to rock up with that Joss Supercar and not leave the pits due to a shopping list of excuses. But I will have Alpinestar gear on and not only look ace but will talk up a storm too -
What turbo are you going to run and what power, boost and revs do you think you will have? If this is a temp engine, then I personally would just throw the std motor in, run a good oil cooler and filter. (pressures on my engine are all over the place depending on the oil filter I am running, Std Nissan seems to work well) and enjoy the thing. Run Castrol 10W60 Edge, make sure your volume is a tad over filled and just enjoy the car. Unless you have slicks and running amazing times the engine will be fine. All this money spent on your oil system, it would be cheaper to just buy another NEO IF the engine has a problem. In which case you woudl be able to sell the old head to the RB30 deviants, bottom end could be of use to somebody. Seems waaaay too much hard work and money when rwd RBs last perfectly fine if you just keep good quality oil up to them.

So out of JSAI, Bodyform , Viva Garage etc who is going to give me good quality and not take forever to deliver? PM your experiences if not comfortable posting up here. Fit and finish has to be decent as a starting point as I dont want to be paying panel beaters hourly rates to fix things up Did a search but not much around specific to lips for R32s

As per above. I have had to remove my Cusco brake stopper because it hit my Plazmaman plenum. I have seen strut braces that have master cylinder stoppers in them but have no idea of which brand. Any takers?

Ideally you are in Vic so I can pick it up. Do not need inlet or exhaust manifolds, rocker covers etc. If it comes with it then great...but just looking for a bare head that hasnt been warped/overheated or starved of oil to use for a new build

Nothing is worse than some new part failing on a car and then that pain being compounded by bills from mechanics. Sad to see that being a pioneer is proving so fraught with disappointment. On the flipside, I wouldn't like to be a distributor of a product that is causing problems for the people you have sold them to. Its not like you are buying from Ding-Wang Rajakrishnakan from a shanty house on the hill. Its Borg Warner for gods sake and as distributor I cant imagine you expected there to be these problems with the product. John: I just hope your car ends up in a state that means going forward it is ballistic and reliable. Wont make you forget this....but would not a bad asprin compared to going back to -10s etc

Scary thing is the testing at the moment is telling us that next years tyres and generall going to be softer and more fragile. There goes Webber having any chance. Lets go back to cold blown diffusers on last years tyres. The people in the know have commented the cars were pretty tricky to drive and Webber had the edge over Vettel in driving the tricky RBR. Come Hungary when RBR introduced the hot blown diffuser, sure Webber was mega quick and won the race...but he wasnt as quick as Vettel and it was the beginning of the change

I was at Phillip Island on the weekend and I hope my Cossie was in Sydney Must have been my doppelganger -
You mean he had to do an amazing job to put Heikki into the shade? Hell, I would smash Heikki Lewis had a great first year when his head was screwed on right. He didn't bin cars, make mistakes. His focus was F1 and trying to beat the current F1 yardstick that is Alonso These days his head isnt there which allows guys like Button to match him. He thinks he has proven himself and excuses explain why he isnt a multiple WDC by now. Button is by no means a hack. But he has managed the tyres this year better then Hackilton this year. Same problem that has affected Webber and Massa has affected Homo's ability to win races. Button had bugger all experience when he found his way into F1. He needed a few years more racing and winning championships and testing like most others had to do. The fact that he was dropped into the acid of F1 so young and inexperienced its no wonder it took him a few years to stop partying and chasing flange and trying to build on his natural ability. According to Button his head wasnt in the game until he drove for Honda and god some guidance from Richards.

Ahh, whats stupid about it? A std engine with 9.0:1 compression on PULP98 is going to fall victim the laws of physics if you lean on it too hard. A std 9.0:1 compression bottom end isnt going to like too many revs, too much boost or too much power in general. Mix all three together and you have to accept that the state you are running your engine in may result in a faiulure. Keep revs to below 7,800rpm, boost under 20psi and I suspect the thing will be pretty reliable even if its making 360rwks. Run 24psi and the risk simply increases

Well Mark who i used to see regularly around the traps at tracks in Vic is selling his R34, It was always a tidy and well presented car with quality mods....and I cant believe his asking price! http://my105.com/ListingDetails/tabid/65/p/2/k/nissan/id/4939/Default.aspx#

Wash your mouth out with soap I may have a GTR bumper and rear spoiler on my car but I would never defile an RB20 with lowly RB26 rocker covers. I am painting the engine bay over Xmas so will play with the rocker covers and breather system then. Should be a lot neater, and also got some things planned for the Plazmaman plenum before I ditch it. And finally someone was nice enough to take what I think is a cool pic of Lazarus :0 -

I am interested to try the 10cm housing again as with the 8cm housing it stops making power after 19psi. Iam curious to see if the 10cm and E85 make enough top end with more boost to live with the loss of power at 4,000-4,500rpm -
LOL, bugger. I did a 1:49.3 on Saturday but sat out Sunday with a gearbox leak. So were you in the black S13? I just watched your lap side by side with mine and its funny that they are identical everywhere. I thought we could be stronger in differt sections but they seem even evreywhere My car was 1335 on the PI weighbridge as well so I have some work to do to take some weight out of it

Yep...also got some 105 fuel to try back to back with E85 to see which the engine prefers. -
Top RB20 Club... do you have over 260rwkw?
Roy replied to RBsileighty's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
So, for all us tight ass RB20 owners. Had a few little problems at Phillip Island on the weekend, which compounded some paranoia that perhaps the RB20 was down on power and on the way out. So this afternoon we did a compression test on the engine and a compression test on the cooling system. Cooling system held pressure no problem, and engine results were as follows: Cylinder 1 - 155psi Cylinder 2 - 155psi Cylinder 3 - 150psi Cylinder 4 - 150psi Cylinder 5 - 145psi Cylinder 6 - 150psi So pretty happy with the results considering the engine has done just under 60,000kms. Its done a few drift events, a few drag events, its done 2 Dutton Rallys, probably about 10-15 motorkhana days and its done maybe 20 track days? Hasnt run less then 18psi/235rwkws since about 2005 and often run 21psi and 260-275rwkws. The engine is for the first time starting to breathe, though not badly. The blow-by is hardly anything to panic about as it only 2/3 filled the Greddy catch can after 4 sessions at Winton and 5 sessions at Phillip Island. Many cars fill that catch can to the same extent after one session. So its still well within the limits of acceptable, its just that its blotted its clean no blow-by record. Who needs "crate" motors that cost many thousands of dollars when you can get a "container" engine for a few hundred dollars -

Yeh dont waste money on cams. Some people seem to get gains from them, you may get a gain, but plenty of evidence around says you may just waste your money. That all said, my 256/8.5mm Tomei cams are going in over the next fortnight... Just to see if they work any better then the Apexi cams I tried AND I owe the lil RB20 an apology. It seems the car simply has more grip then it used to and where it used to slide I can now carry more throttle then ever before. It doesnt seem to be down on power after all or any obvious issues with the engine. So the cooling pressure test came up A-OK. And the best bit was the compression test results were as follows: Cylinder 1 - 155psi Cylinder 2 - 155psi Cylinder 3 - 150psi Cylinder 4 - 150psi Cylinder 5 - 145psi Cylinder 6 - 150psi Pretty even and I didnt connect a batter pack to the car so the drop off in psi could in part be attributed to the battery draining a little after so much cranking. (its a pretty small, shitty battery that does not hold a lot of charge) So, the engine now has its own name ... "Lazarus" -

What tyres are you running the AU on? -
So now all is clear why Webz race was farked "This gave the reigning World Champ the opportunity to learn something new and to participate in his team's Sunday's evening, helping out with Mark Webber's strategy." "So of course he was disappointed, but he didn't rush to leave the circuit. He hung around to help the team and try and help his team-mate." He can mess with Webber even from pit wall

Would A Track/race Gtr Be Faster With No 4Wd?
Roy replied to bigmikespec's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
I am not too sure Skyline owners are very good at math Some of the do this and do that for all less then 25k etc seems waaay optimistic. I think the GTR will win in most conditions, however I think a rwd platform that is 200kgs lighter can be as quick, if not quicker in some circumstances. There is always the issue of what you can do yourself and what you do with the car. AWD is a pretty big bandaid -
Can you steer me to the proof that this is the case? My experience (which is limited to only two cars) is that the L2 is no better then the normal TD06 turbine. Curious to see some cases/examples where they have spooled better

Don't agree. Webber had a stop that cost him about 9 seconds, he came out about 8 seconds behind Massa and in 5-6 laps was on his and Buttons bum. In that period he was the quickest guy on the track. Webber was all over the backs of Massa and Button, just didnt have the straight line to get it done without being waaay aggressive. Last stint, yes he was on the quicker tyre, but all mid stint he was on the same tyre and was quicker...just couldnt cleanly get by Massa and Button. Even in the first stint he seemed to be quicker but had to just sit back and preserve the tyre and fuel because Button had him covered as Webebr could only do the job in the first DRS zone and the McLaren had such a straight line advantage that he could sail by in the second, shorter DRS zone

RBR making Webber look woeful. He had 3rd and a good chance at 2nd had they not stuffed his pitstop. After the delay in the stop he was quicker in the second stint. Button had a problem with KERS but Webber was quicker then everyone inc Hamo. If he didnt get dicked with track position he may have been able to use that pace, would have been a shoe in for 3rd and a possible second. Admit that he was never going to win after the first two laps though, he needs to defend more like the Webber of old, rather than the 2011 Webebr where he things he will be patient and use car speed to get them back in a later phase
