R33 Gtst Front Hub Ball Joints
zoomzoom replied to Cadmoon's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Just the bushings alone is a lot of work. That is, unless you get some good aftermarket arms. It would be more expensive, but you'll be able to properly set the alignment and you dont have to press the old ones out. -

Do they actually need replacing? -
On the container it states that it's made in the Netherlands. The very american branding threw me off, ie, chief, chicasaw, cherokee, etc. It would probably be considered racially insensitive in america

This is the one I purchased http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online-store/products/Chief-Cherokee-Engine-Oil-10W-30-5-Litre.aspx?pid=344487#@cross Here are the listed specs http://media.supercheapauto.com.au/sca/files/user/content/chief-oils/msds/344487.pdf http://media.supercheapauto.com.au/sca/files/user/content/chief-oils/tds/344487.pdf

Ive seen this brand at supercheap for while now. Today I decided to put some of the 10w30 cherokee semi synthetic in a barina. $33 for 5L. There's quite a selection of viscosities in both semi synth and full synth, at prices which are average or lower than competitors. However I don't see a lot of reference to this oil on the net and I get the impression that it isn't selling much. Anyone else tried this stuff? Ive used nulon 10w40 full synth exclusively in the stagea, but even when its on special at $45 I still think I could go for cheaper oil! Since there is a better selection than gulf western in terms of viscosities, I might use it for all the family cars.

Yeah, this. At the moment I am running a hypergear high flow on an otherwise stock ECU S1 stagea. I never timed a 0-100kmh with my stock turbo, but currently it does a realistic 0-100 in just under 10 seconds. Only just. That's with 9psi of boost, plus a shift kit. The turbo is really only effective above 3k rpm, unless its a highway cruising situation where the turbo can build boost around 2.7k rpm. I leave the transmission in power mode.

Take out the DIN rack and see for yourself. The drink holders can be removed, but its not a standard DIN slot, so you will have to do some custom brackets if the rack for the drink holder doesn't match. I thought about doing it years ago, but it wasn't worth the hassle.

Not quite sure what you're asking? When I tossed out the stock CD player, I put the single din AC unit on the bottom position if that is what you're thinking about doing. The metal frame needs a bit of work on the holes to fit the unit properly.

Bushes get worn, distorted and loose. The suspension arms aren't difficult to fix, but something like the rear subframe bushes are much more difficult. If you haven't installed polyurethane subframe collars, that would be a good idea. The reduced movement of the subframe should help extend the life of the factory bushes. However, if you need to replace completely torn ones, you have to take the subframe out.

If you like to change cars every few years for something newer, theres no way around the fact that you will pay for that luxury, with taxes and inspections, rego changing and depreciation. I figure its most economical to buy a good 2nd hand vehicle, maintain and run it until it dies. Of course you can never be 100% sure whether you will get a vehicle that will have many problems in its life. Even though the stagea is quite heavy on fuel, the old technology seems to be simple and rugged. If youve done major work on the engine or suspesion, like the 100k service, then you might as well get your money's worth out of the components.

One of those things Ill never understand. Gladly.

How Many Kms Has Your Stagea Done?
zoomzoom replied to killeran's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
96 model, 130k kms. Can't be sure if it's genuine. Some doubts for me are that Ive replaced the turbo. It wasn't blown but had too much shaft play. Front shocks were totally worn by 100k kms on the odo, which Im not sure if its normal since it's a heavy car with sporty shocks. Maybe too much wear on the drivers seat too. No point dwelling on it. Its running well and is in good condition now. -
Argh! Impossible Idle/trans/timing Issue!
zoomzoom replied to Emrarrr's topic in General Maintenance
Ive adjusted the idle screw on the AAC valve before, and wasn't necessary to unplug anything. That solved the timing fluctuation that is being described. -
Hi guys, I live in -55c temps. Will this oil be fine?

A motorcycle helmet is what you had in mind? There are full face mountain bike helmets which may fit the bill. Unless something has changed we are not required to wear more than that on the motorcycle, barring public nudity. But there is no way anyone can pedal in leather or worse, synthetics without dying of heat stroke. Zebra

Can any people who had one installed describe what modification is done to the car in order to fit the bar? I am in Canberra and would be interested in one, though I might have to get it locally fitted, or DIY if possible.

R32 Feels Boaty At Speed
zoomzoom replied to angusis2fast4u's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Easiest, but priciest way is to replace the control arms with aftermarket ones. Pressing out the old bushings and replacing with poly is effective, but lots of labour. -
I know TAC has a poor reputation amongst motorcyclists due to their policies of influencing VicPol to issue rider-at-fault infringements in an attempt to reduce payouts to claimants. I wouldn't count the TAC as your friend.

Try ebay, or just be upfront when you sell the vehicle. A prospective buyer may want to replace the turbo anyways.

Rego isn't the only solution to that, nor a very good one. It just seems like a government institution responding the only way they know how, ie, to make a bloated system of paperwork and databases, create unnecessary jobs and impose a tax.
-
I wouldn't pay for rego. I don't even bother with a helmet. I have a car, motorcycle and bicycle. My approach on the pushbike is simply to avoid cars as much as possible. Bikes and pedestrians are far more compatible traffic, since you can ride at walking pace. The worst situations Ive had around pedestrians is them passing a few nasty comments about me being around pedestrians. Ive never had police take interest in me for not wearing a helmet, surely even they must think it a useless law given how Australia is globally one of the odd ones when it comes to pushbike laws. So rego? Why? My risk of injuring others is negligible and my impact on the road in terms of wear and tear on the infrastructure is also negligible. I ask little and expect little. I do see a lot of entitlement and anger amongst cyclists. I can understand the anger as a motorcyclist, but the special treatment given to cyclists on political grounds does rub people the wrong way.

I have one similar in style to that without the fan. I would imagine the fan to interfere with airflow beyond a certain speed. A passive one would be fine. You may want to look up opinions on the bar and plate style coolers to judge their effectiveness vs the continuous tube style cooler like you listed.

More realistic is restricted items like gun parts will be made, leading governments to massively crack down on the technology and restrict it.
