all the terms youve described are just slang really, they are by no means standardised. when it comes down to basics, exhaust or belt driven charger are still superchargers. they both increase (super) the mass of air (charge air) going into the engine. turbo is just a term to refer to the turbine in their design

Hi, just thought i would post this question here too since to see if i can get some answers from stagea owners Check out this thread: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Di...gi-t238927.html I dont want to go the standard tack on gauge pod in the stagea since: 1. i want to keep the dash simple 2. the usual DIN slot where people put gauges isnt really suitable 3. i dont really want a gauge pod, for appearance, and as not to draw attention

Hi im looking for alternative boost gauge setups that dont require the space of a normal gauge pod and threading vac tubes into the cabin. to give you an idea: http://www.dynotunenitrous.com/store/scrip...p?idproduct=131 this would be ideal but except for the price + its in america and have no idea if they would even ship here. has anyone come across setups where theres a small digital pressure reader under the bonnet right near the intake manifold, then all you need to do is run a wire into the cabin, and then mount a small LCD readout on your dash? i would have expected that these kinds were more common as digital pressure readers are nothing high tech, but i cant find anything. maybe im just searching in the wrong places, as i can only find gauge pods when searching for automotive terms. are there other applications that could be adapted to suit? there must be plenty of machines that need to read pressure above and below atmospheric pressure

still, check for exhaust leaks. youd be suprised what turbos sound like when the exhaust is lifting off the side of the engine
-
Maybe a modded dashboard? looks like a simple job of putting a digital readout for the speed. and any idea on what engine? it says 280hp or 208kw, but its 2500cc so not an rb26, but its a series 1 so it couldnt be a NEO engine? or just a regular rb25 with the boost cranked?

its those GTR drivers the stagea helps to soothe your nerves in rush hour. one morning i was going at a crawls pace along the william hovel stretch in the bumper to bumper time, and i was keeping the car steady in 1st gear, and a crazy woman behind was speeding up and slowing down right up to my bumper and swearing her head off the whole way. damn frustrating but i didnt stoop to her level.

yeh im not a speed nanny, its just theres a time and place, and when theres traffic and people working on the roads thats definitely NOT the time. it bugs me so much that some people dont look ahead, even after going past the "60KMH" sign, then the "POLICE PATROL THIS WORK SITE" sign THEN the "40KMH" sign temporary speed bumps i wonder? im sure that wouldnt be popular, maybe bottleneck the road a bit further back to make sure people slow down?

So, ive just narrowly avoided having my stagea written off again, just after ive had the thing in service the past few weeks and is now running perfectly. Literally just picked it up from the workshop and on the way home nearly had some dipshizzle rear end me on the william hovel roadworks. As some of you probably know, the speed is dropped back to 40kmh because they need to stop the traffic sometimes. I was at the rear of a group of cars, almost stationary and I see a car flying up in my rear view mirror. I think to myself "damn hes leaving his braking late". I can see hes not slowing down so i began to pull off to the side onto the shoulder, and then i hear his brakes lock up so I give the stagea a quick squirt of gas onto the grass in the middle. He was almost certainly doing more than 90, my car would have been written off for sure. Seriously WTF, theres plenty of things wrong here, how far ahead was this guy looking?? at his bonnet?? How the hell can people go so fast when the speeds been dropped back to 40 and still not give a shit about where theyre going, and what theyre running into. This kind of thing freaks me out on the bike where the mirrors have a narrow field of view for whats in your rear view. I wonder what would have happened if i was on my bike, i almost certainly wouldnt have seen him. I would probably be busted up at the moment. paranoia is your friend everyone is out to get you. pay attention cos you cant trust anybody else to! sorry end rant

Overdrive Off Button Use On Free Way..
zoomzoom replied to kidafa's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
i have a bad habit of saying "putting it into overdrive" when i mean "out" of overdrive. although an auto trans bugs me from a performance standpoint it does make it easier to drive around town given the size of the car that it is. probably better in snow too as the torque delivery is smoother than a manual in its operation, but im yet to back that up by taking the stagea out to the snow -
Overdrive Off Button Use On Free Way..

if its a hill where i know i need to accelerate quickly ill put it into overdrive, but leaving it top gear should be more efficient if youre not in a hurry. more revs means more energy lost through heat. the point about it being "on" boost isnt really the proper way to think about it. the rate at which the engine uses fuel is proportional to the rate at which the mass of air is going into the intake. x revs at y psi of boost will draw the same mass of air if you increase the revs and lower the intake pressure. not to mention pressure also is affected by heat as well as mass in a volume. the difference is that lower revs and forcing more air into the cylinders should increase thermal efficiency...same mass of air as a larger NA engine would normally draw in, with less cylinder surface area to lose heat freeway speeds.....definitely let it go into top gear. -
ahh the little alfa spent the last few nights at my house. it really is the local call girl, isnt it. i think the 80's styling looks ridiculous, but i can see what the italian charm is i recommend autotech too. you do need some patience with them though, they often have many jobs to work on so yours wont be done quickly, but i would rather it done properly, especially when dealing with a market of cars like the skyline. when it comes to working on things like the ATTESSA system you want people who have heard of it before working on it. most ordinary workshops arent suited for that. every other automotive place ive been to takes one look at my car and says "what, the volvo?".....not a good start

Need Help, 4wd Light And Gearbox Issues
zoomzoom replied to zoomzoom's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
it was checked at the 100k service but was clean so it wasnt replaced. i would have preferred it to be changed in the first place but ill have it done this week. the car was especially bad on the drive home today. there was a 10km stretch where the power was dying on and off about every second. i bloody hope its a simple fix -

another follow up question: is the fluid used in the tranfer case and attessa system similar to the transmission fluid? is it capable of retaining water? ive always found this problem to be heat related, as it occurs after the car has been used for a good 40 minutes or more. is it possible that theres water which vaporises under heat and causes problems like when you get water in brake fluid and it messes with the brakes? im thinking if i bleed the air and theres still water in there it may be a pointless exercise. just replace the whole lot im thinking -

yeh, that was my next question...lol is it a DIY job that can be done properly? -

do you think that there is air in the system? i did get them to check the fluid and top it up, i guess its possible they may have introduced air in? -
OK, heres the story so far. ive only recently had a 100,000km service (less than 1000km ago) in which they did all the usuals plus replace the transmission fluid. after that service, within a few hundred kms i experienced problems with the power when just cruising at a constant speed. the power would die and the engine revs would drop off, then jerk back up to rpm. the 4WD light would soon come on and also pressing the overdrive button wouldnt drop the gear down to 3rd. i took it back and they replaced the transmission fluid, from the brand they put in to the genuine nissan fluid and also put 2 earthing straps on the body and engine as they beleived the 4wd was an electrical fault. it was fine for a few days but the problem has come back with vengeance. today the power was dropping off harshly and it almost felt as though the car was almost dragging, and 4wd light on again. this seems to happen intermittently, the rest of the time the transmission is flawless, WTF is going on? perhaps its not the auto transmission but the transfer case? argh i hope this doesnt drag me down into a money pit of hell im in canberra by the way if anyone knows some specialists. ive been to autotech so far
-
well my 100k service at first cost $1400, but then it came to $2200 after having to change the transmission oil twice, 2 new CV boots, putting a new coolant line on the turbo, earthing straps. i sure hope the car is set now for another 10 years

nissan dealership wanted to charge me 600 dollars for the entire mirror assembly and about 300-and-something for the folding motor. i think i can live without it

its best to sand and chip away all the really flaky rust and paint and then sand the majority of the rust back to good metal, then rust converter on it to stop any more rust, and to let it drip down into the door to neutralise any more rust. then primer and paint the metal with a good enamel paint. then afterwards i soaked the inside of the door with fish oil until it dripped from all the door drains. the car stunk for a week or two but i wont have to worry about any more rust in the doors
-
i just want to get a rough idea of how they work in different situations. am i right in thinking that theres normally a 5/95% split in normal driving and so theres clutches which are constantly slipping? if you took the stagea out onto a slippery road where the front was constantly recieving more torque then this would be wearing the clutch packs? in these cases would it be better to lock them with the synchro button?
-
damn i missed the chance to try the stagea in its proper environment and i know whats its like on the bike too. i rode up the parkway on my motorbike, stopped to get some petrol and i couldnt speak properly to the guy at the counter because my face was so frozen

electric car only around the corner? the technology has been around for 150 years, there were more electric cars at the turn of the 1900 compared to internal combustion cars. electric cars could have replaced the vast majority of commuter cars decades and decades ago, but they arent as profitable. its such a shame

Weird Clicking Sound From Passenger Footwell
zoomzoom replied to zoomzoom's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
its just under the glovebox its sounds like it may be one of the vent actuators, i just installed a stereo so i unplugged the climate control. im pretty sure all the plugs were put back in securely, but oh well i guess ill have to pull the whole damn thing out again.... is there some kind of reset for the system? -
Weird Clicking Sound From Passenger Footwell
zoomzoom posted a topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
ok, so the stagea has developed a very strange sound coming from the passenger footwell area, i think from one of the motors/devices which are visible if you put your head just under the glovebox. its a loud clicking/thudding sound, which sounds like its coming from an electric motor at a rate of about 60bpm (once per second). at first it made the sound in groups of 20, then stopped for a few seconds, but recently its been doing it constantly. it also starts and stops intermittently. friggin weird problem, and i cant seem to affect it at all. i fiddled with the air con controls with no effect. and since i cant affect it i cant pinpoint exactly what it is, ahh please help me!
