You get two runs on the second layout anyway without the knockout battles, and cars should try and pick drivers/cars that are similar in speed and skill. I felt it was a climatic ending to a great day, and gets everyone involved, whether driving or just spectating.

I can definitely make this! Is there a wooden spoon award? Are passengers allowed? I've never been in any seriously quick cars, fastest was the Elfin at the last DECA, and prior to that it would be a stock Evo 7 then my Supra. Would be cool to feel what a truly fast car feels like. Of course I wouldn't jump in if someone were going for the personal best, but if they were just practicing launching or whatnot I'd appreciate the ride.

Fair enough. I was just pointing the potential dangers out from a novice's point of view, and lets face it, DECA has more than a few rookies. I don't by any means want to make the track less enjoyable for experienced drivers.

Yeah, I never really push it on the 80% run. I don't really know how to use it beyond learning where the cones are and to get a view of the road.

Where do we put feedback or suggestions for events like this? Just in here? I was thinking about DECA today and had a couple of ideas. First of all I understand the cones on the wangs are to slow drivers down before dangerous points, but maybe move the second chicane on the long wang (when going clockwise) down closer to the basketball court? It was easy to carry a lot of speed into that corner, and it was quite slippery with all the gravel there. I saw a couple of others spin out there, myself included. The first time into there I locked the brakes up too, I had plenty of time to stop but it really is quite a high-speed and sudden turn and for inexperienced drivers like myself it was unexpected and I didn't know how to handle it. The fact you have a group of people standing there at the end makes it slightly more dangerous too. Granted, when I spun out I stayed on the track and was laughing the entire time, so maybe the danger isn't as bad as I thought (you more experienced drivers will no doubt know what errors can be made there, which way the car will go and damage that could be done). The other suggestion is bring back battles! I understand its difficult within our time frame, but what if the second battle layout was shorter and your second run on that layout was the beginning of the battle. So by the time everyone has done their second run, half the cars are already knocked out. I just remember my first Deca when Clive and Leon battled, it was a great way to end the day and gets everyone involved. Anyway, those are my ideas, and thanks again for another great day at DECA.

Very nice read. I don't know the other layout looked like but this one looks very professional.

He makes it look so easy... I'm guessing the second shift he's double clutching too?

Okay so I tried this whole heel and toe thing, and either I'm not doing it right, or my accelerator pedal is too far back. When I plant my foot hard on the brakes It's still about a cm or two higher than the accelerator at its highest point. Makes it very difficult to dip my heel that much lower than my toe.

I'm going to hold you to that

lol, I was looking at the times and was wondering how anyone got a WD on the easiest layout, not once, but twice!

Damn, look at all those 50's! The long wang really kills it for us NA boys. I actually thought I went quite quick through the LW this time around (at least on the run I didn't spin out), but still ended up way down the bottom. I've got to make up the points on the skid pan, and as Gerald has shown we Supra's aren't complete boats out there! It's interesting going back over past DECA results to see where you're improving. My LW seems to be getting slower, is that because clockwise is a slower track? MW seems to be getting progressively quicker! Down from an original 33 seconds to mid 29's. Probably explains why I'm loving it more and more too. I think next time I'll tackle the cones on the wangs a bit faster, I'm sure there's plenty more grip in the car.

Import Monster? J imports?
-
I'll have to try it, I've never been good with the whole heel and toe action.
-
I don't even know what you're talking about so I'm guessing no, lol. And Ryan, that's just cruel!
-
I've done this before, it's good but very small. I was hoping there'd be a much bigger place somewhere that we could get some speed on.
-
My problem is I either leave it in first and smash the limiter, or I switch to second then try and ram it back into first when I reach the cone. I've already had one gearbox blow on me, and they're nearly as expensive to replace as the engine!

Hey guys, I was watching a video on youtube recently about learning how to drift, control your car, etc. The guy appeared to be on an air strip or something. Basically he had a huge flat surface with nothing to hit and no one one around. I don't think it was a skid pan. My question is, is there a place we can go and hire (I don't mind paying a bit) for a couple of hours where we'd have free time to do whatever we wanted? DECA days and that are awesome fun, but it'd be great to have the skidpan to yourself for a couple of hours just so you could practice power sliding in a large circle, figure 8's, etc. Where did you guys learn to drive like you do? Cheers.

Very cool photos. Feel bad for not at least washing my car, probably ruined half your photos.

You weren't the only one! There was a table full of SAU members and then right beside it there was another table with you sitting alone, holding a beer and staring into nothing. We had some good talks, those that I can remember anyway.
-
Me either, I hope. I did hit a cone though, and spun out twice. Gravel at the end of the mini wang caught me by surprise.

Get a Corolla, those things never die.

Massive thanks to everyone who organized, volunteered, gave me advice, let me ride in their cars, put pepper and coins in my drink, for the yager bombs, for getting us kicked out of the GV before we got in and to my gorgeous girlfriend for bunny hopping the car home so that I wouldn't lose my license to a RBT. I don't know whether I forget how much fun DECA is each time I go, or whether it's getting more enjoyable with each trip but everytime I go I have an absolute blast. I'm beginning to really appreciate the wangs too (the mini in particular) whereas before I just loved the skidpan. Bring on August.

This was started on the 7th, yours on the 29th?

Holy shit, this has to be the politest 14yo to ever grace this forum, and he hasn't been flamed once yet! -
Yeah, I'll come. Too much fun (and organising) to miss. Thanks for the advice guys. BTW Russ that vibrating in the car was from a wheel bearing!
