Wow. People need to read my posts better. A) I agreed and said exhausts do NOT need to be loud to make power. I was comparing a loud (see loud, not unrestricted) exhausts usefulness to a fake turbo. Neither do anything but add noise for show. B) I only said a fake turbo that sounded EXACTLY like a turbo spooling and releasing would kind of cool (and I guarantee if it were available and not expensive 90% of the P platers out there would agree). None of this whistler shit they have now. I know I'm going to get flamed on this point, but like I said; I love the sound of a a turbo spooling and a nice BoV, I agree it is kind of wanky, but if I cannot afford the turbo model or an unable to drive the turbo model (P plate laws) then I'd consider this till I could upgrade properly. C) I have driven plenty of turbo charged cars. In fact I've spent quite a few hours behind the wheel of an Evo 7 and R33 gtst. The other point I was trying to make is I can't understand why people buy turbo cars and then never use them! I'm not attacking anyone, I just fail to see the logic behind buying a powerful performance car and never actually enjoying it - I don't consider the occasional squirt from 0-100 properly enjoying a car.

Fair enough, I was being more specific with regard to performance cars. E.g. Supras, Skylines, etc. I don't understand why people buy GTSTs (or GTRs) over an NA Skyline if all they do is take it to the shops/Uni/work and back. Unless of course they're undertaking illegal street activities. I also fail to understand why a loud exhaust is any less wanky than a fake turbocharger (I don't think either are particularly wanky - I just fail to see the difference). I mean you can remove the stock exhaust restriction easily enough without having to wake the neighbours everytime you drive home. They're both simply for show, and I find it strange that if a fake spool and BoV were invented (that sounded good) why people think it's more wanky than a 120dB exhaust on an 120rwkw Skyline.
-
Like I said, I love the sound. I'm also not a dick who hoons around public streets or needs anymore attention from the cops by having illegal BoVs. I mean really, why do any cars need loud exhausts, kits or big rims? It's all show, just like a fake turbo. If you actually take your car to the track and NEED that sort of power that's the only reason I think anyone should buy a turbocharged car.

Fixed.

Lancers are cheap/easy to cosmetically mod, plus their cheap outright price. http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/result...rds=&Nne=15 They do exist below 10k, unlikely to get 2000 model, but '98s are easy enough. Stress to him the reliability of the RB engine. Great first cars.

Why post 2000? He paranoid about mechanical issues? IMO there are a lot of older cars (especially the Japanese brands) that still look very modern. Edit: For 10k I'd be looking at an R34 Auto Sedan.

Quick update. Bought the game today and it's pretty damn good for what it's worth. $20, 400mb and an insane mirror to download from. I was doing 1.6mb per sec (didn't even know our net was that quick!). The game is just so... simple. Think Diablo without all the rubbish like manually having to click on gold, limited inventory space (inventory is limited, but much designed in a much better way), carrying arrows and bolts around, etc. The game is quick, easy and most importantly: fun! I can't see myself playing it for weeks, but it'll last me a good while still. Highly recommend it if you enjoyed Diablo etc. Great time waster.

I've previously always had HD Exedy clutches. Car came with one (nearly dead) when I bought it, and I replaced it with one. Would replacing the gearbox and clutch (with the same model box and clutch) affect it, or is it only for when changing the type of clutch? I gave the car a rather *hard launch the other night, and the car gripped fine, so here's hoping it was just a bit of oil. * Anyone else give their car a hard time when it's pissing them off?

*Puts flame suit on* To be completely honest, I love the sound of a car spooling and a nice BoV. If there was some way I could get it on my car that was legal and sounded decent I'd probably do it. I mean really, unless you take your car to the track, how often does a daily driver require a turbocharger? If there was a cheap alternative I'd look into it for my daily. Edit: I should mention only IF my daily was the type of car that came with turbochargers, like my NA Supra. I wouldn't pretend my Excel has one.

I had my Alpine Type R 12" (with ported Alpine box) in the boot of my 33. Rattled the absolute shit out of my car. Sounded good on the inside, but even on a relatively low volume the boot rattled like a mofo and was embarassing. In my new Supra the box won't even fit in the boot (well, hatchback) of the Supra. It sits directly behind the driver which suits me fine because I HATE driving with a passenger behind me. Gives me the perfect excuse not to take more than 2 people at once. Sounds great now, especially with the windows open.

Hey guys, My current mechanic has done one too many suspect things to ignore, and I need someone who isn't dodgy and has experience with imports, specfically Supras. Does anyone know anyone decent around the Frankston/Mornington area? I'd be happy to mention your name as the one who referred me. Thanks, Kieran.

Anyone played this game? Looks pretty sweet for $20, planning on grabbing it next week. There's a quick review.
-
Where do you work? I'm actually looking for a new mechanic I can trust as this one has done a couple of suspect things in the past. Wouldn't have taken the car there for the gearbox, but it needed to be towed and didn't have much choice.

+ 1 for Jeff. I'm probably what he'd call a "time waster" as he took me out for a spin and then I bought privately a few months later, but he was very helpful and more than willing to take the cars out for a test drive. He also took me out back and showed me a mint condition 2002 Supra with next to no K's on the clock too after I returned in my new car, despite the fact the car was already sold and he knew I wasn't going to buy anything. Nice guy and the cars a pretty good from what I could tell. If I have a better income in the future I'd be more than happy to buy straight through them than piss around with private buyers.

How much does this guy normally charge for removing gutter rash and powdering coating rims? I sent him an email, but I honestly have no idea how much powder coating, or gutter rash removing costs in general. $500, $1000, more? Cheers.

Enjoy the lack of turbo laws.

Why not buy a 2JZ-GE Soarer and add a turbo to it?

Been too paranoid it'll happen again. Guess I'll have to find out anyway, might do it later tonight and see what happens. To the above poster I had no idea clutches had to worn in. No one ever told me.

Flywheel was machined, and the rear main seal was replaced when the clutch was done the first time (maybe 3 months ago - pain in the ass having to replace it again). Pretty sure the whole clutch was done, they just used another HD Exedy kit again. How much damage can I do to a clutch when spinning it for... less than 5 seconds in second and third. Thanks.
-
Long story short, I recently replaced a f**ked gearbox in my car. I had to replace the clutch too, as the f**ked gearbox took the clutch with it. I've had the car back maybe two weeks since it was all fixed up, and haven't given it any stick at all. Anyway tonight I was driving home, was a nice cold night, no one around so I thought I'd have a bit of fun. Nothing major, I rolled off gradually from the lights before punching the throttle, then as I quickly put the car into second I stomped the throttle again only to have the revs literally fly up and the car not gain any power. I thought the rear tyres were spinning, so I quickly put it in third and eased off on the accelerator, but again the revs flew up and I moved no where. It was at this point I obviously realized it was the clutch spinning not the wheels. At the next stop it became apparent by the stink it was indeed clutch not the wheels. My question is, should a new clutch do this (HD Exedy) in an NA Supra? And how much damage have I done to my current one with this little stunt? I've given my car much, much rougher shifts and launches at DECA etc, and nothing like this has happened before. Is there a chance they've stiffed me with a dodgy clutch, or was I just too enthusiasitic? The car drove home fine, the clutch didn't feel any different. Just frustrating after having literally just replaced the clutch. Thanks.

No kidding. Scout, Puppet Master, even the newest hero Engineer is ridiculous.

Everyone loves and respects a quality piece of machinery when they see it, regardless of where its from. I rock up to meets and have people who drive GTRs come over and ask me to pop the hood. I tell them its a stock NA, but they don't care, everyone loves the 2J.
