  1. Google Varex. Then buy one off ebay. Loud, quiet, affordable and quality. No, I'm not a sales rep, I was just that impressed with the product.
  2. Heh, they're 500 rms subs, why would you put 3x has much power into it?
  3. Good to know. I'm 6'0" so Coupe or Sedan the back is gonna be squashy regardless.
  4. I do have a few questions about the R34 actually. How roomy is are the back seats in the R34 Sedan and Coupe? Is the coupe similar to the R33 two door? How about the boot, bigger or smaller than the 33? Can you get a GT4 in a two door? I've only seen sedans. On carsales I see a lot of automatic and semi-automatic, are they all triptronic or are some cars fully automatic? Hopefully I'll get around to a dealership to look at some over the coming weeks, but any info would be appreciated. Thanks.
  5. So after I lost my license, I was told when I handed it in that once I got it back in 6 months I would have to complete the 3 months I had left and that would be that. Went back in to VicRoads the other day to buy some custom plates (UNR34L) and it turns out the girl I spoke to first had it wrong, my license was canceled. Which means I have to start from scratch again. Hooray for another three years of NA lovin'. I already sold my 33 GTS because I figured I'd be upgrading into a GT-T or possibly a Supra, but it looks like I'm going to have to revert back to just a plain old GT. Anyway, no real point to this post, just a bit of a rant. Before anyone jumps on me yelling that I deserved I will refer you to this post; http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Do...=dont+be+a+hoon
  6. I've already had a couple of PM's offering near double what I paid. They're worth more because they're clever, unique and it's so hard to come up with an original set of plates now days as they've all been taken. Sure you could go UNR3AL or UNRE4L, but without the 'R34' in there it just becomes lame.
  7. Just out of curiosity, what are your plates?
  8. I have a power rack too. To the OP; just buy a power rack, adjustable bench, dumbells and bar, and around 150kg of weight. I picked all this up brand new off ebay for less than a grand, delivery included (which was a lot). Power rack even had high and low cables. It's like on years gym fee and you can do literally everything on it safely from home.
  9. Is that your car in your avatar? That thing is insane. Got any better pictures? Not only do I want to see what you mean by the 6 digit plates, but I just wanna perv at the car itself. On a more random note, I'm sure GTR34L would be available.
  10. Well, besides a bit of online research I only know what was around 8 months ago. Like I said I had a 12" Alpine type R (in an Alpine ported box designed for it), I loved it, but next time I want more. I know nothing about 15" or 18", but I was considering a pair of 12's. From memory Fosgate, Kicker and Alpine Type X are the next level up. Like I said though, volume isn't such a big deal. Ideally I want very high quality sound, and a nice strong physical punch that you can really feel. I'm guessing that means a pair of quality 12's or a nice 15"? Both in sealed enclosures? Saw this today; http://cgi.ebay.com.au/soundstream-xxx-15-...%3A1|240%3A1318 Overkill? I know nothing about the brand, but it seems pretty cheap, so long as you can afford the amp and batteries to support it. Thanks for the response. Edit: Quick question; what size sub(s) can you fit in an R34 boot?
  11. Okay, I love bass. I never truly realized how much I did love it till I bought my Alpine Type R 12" sub. What I enjoy most is more the physical sensation of a powerful bass pushing my innards around, more than high dB or neighborhood waking "doof doof", but I suppose they all go hand in hand. So I sold my last car, sound system and all, and I'm looking at making a really nice set up in my next car, but I don't really understand all the technical jargon. I'm trying to find what I was looking at earlier, and can't find it anywhere now. Subwoofer's come with their own SLP(?), SLQ(?) ratings, something like that, and I have no idea what each means. Anyway, if I come across them I'll post them here again. In short though, for the best physical sensation from a sub I'm guessing you want a larger surface area more than anything? Like, two 15" subs will out perform a single 12" even if the 12" has a slightly higher RMS value than the two bigger combined? Thanks guys.
  12. True enough. Well, if anyone is interested just send me a PM with a sensible offer. Nothing ridiculous like $600 (I paid $500) cause I'd sooner keep them for myself.
  13. UNR34L Might be a considered a dodgy move, but as I don't actually have an R34 yet, or the funds to buy one I am willing to sell them. If not, I'll happily hang onto them for myself. Any idea what they might be worth? Quick edit; they're standard white on black.
  14. I worked 9 hours at Coles on Friday and it was absolutely hectic. Worse than Christmas or Easter. Basically all the staff were at the service area all day, regardless of what department you were in. People went nuts too, bought like 5 years supply of tooth paste, etc. Saw several ~$1000 orders go through my register alone. I work at one of the bigger Coles stores, with 13 registers, and every single one (excluding the 3 express) had at least 10 trolleys lined up. I will say this though, despite the monster lines that filled the fresh produce area, blocked the deli off and forced people to wait nearly half an hour to reach the register; no one complained. Everyone was in good spirits, polite, friendly and patient.
  15. Alright, thanks for the advice all. Here's my current plan; Drive Mum's car till I'm off my P's. Put $200 a week away into a savings account. Once I'm off my P's and with a significant amount of money saved up (should be at least $15,000) I'll begin searching for cars, but I'll be really, really fussy. I won't settle for anything less than mint condition car at a bargain price, if I find something out of my price range, I'll take a small loan to get it, but if it takes me another year to find one, that's cool too, because I'm still putting $200 a week away. This car will then be my pride and joy, which I will keep for a long, long time. Thanks again.
  16. To be honest that's what I really do want to hear, but I'm not so foolish as to ignore the advice coming from the other side either. I like the advice the last guy said. I love the S15, but I think I'd be more content with an R34 GT-T, TT Supra or maybe an Evo 6. My full license isn't that far off. The really smart thing to do would be to try and find a reliable cheap car to putt around in and hope nothing in it goes wrong, and save up for the next 15 months, but the reality is I'll probably snag a stock Supra for under $10 and just enjoy it till then. They re-sell pretty well anyway. It'd be a good test too, put away $150 a week and try to maintain/insure the Supra on top. Thanks for the advice guys, will think about it.
  17. I'm not so concerned about losing my job, even in this economic crisis. I work for a big corporation (lots of other people to sack), and my managers love me. Plus even if I did lose my job I have an excellent resume. With regards to part time/casual customer service jobs at least. I'm also aware of the maintenance and insurance costs of a performance car having owned a '93 R33 (which did have a few hiccups). I dunno. I have a mate who's a bit older than me, and he kicked around forever in cheaper cars (R33's, Silvias, etc). Then about a year ago he though bugger it and bought a freshly imported Evo VII. Hasn't regretted it at all. It cost him a lot, but he says he'd much rather invest in a nice, reliable car he loves and will keep for many years, rather than settle for something within his current price range and constantly yearn for something else. Then again, you're probably right. Damn easy loans and their temptation.
  18. Long story short, I need a new car. I'm on my P's, but I'm allowed turbo cars so long as they stay within the 125kw per ton limit. I previously owned an R33 non turbo, nice car, but I don't want another. So I'm currently looking at; NA Supra (~$10,000-15,000) 200sx S15 (~$16,000-24,000) Or just save my money and grab something below 10 grand. I have about $7,000 saved up, and earn about $300 a week (full time student). I live at home, and have no other debts or bills beyond the occasional $30 phone recharge. I'm going to be studying for at least two more years. Basically, I really want a turbo charged car, but all the cars within my budget are very, very old (R32's, S13s, etc). I could snag a pretty stock Supra for cheap and cruise around in that for a few years, I've always loved the way they look, but I hate the interior, it's so dated. Plus, the risk of getting a lemon goes up with age. On the other hand, I love the S15, always have. It's turbo charged, relatively new, and reliable. Plus, I could see myself driving an S15 for a long time, rather than the Supra which I'd probably sell in 15 months for a turbo car. It would mean going something like $10,000 (or even $15,000 if I buy one with a kit, rims etc) into debt. Over a five year loan that's no big deal per week, I can easily pay it, and I'm sure I could hammer the debt down quite rapidly over summer breaks etc. But it's still debt. I don't like debt. It's a dirty word. Does anyone have any experience with this? I'm sure plenty of people have gone into debt at a young age over a car. Regret it? If so why? Thanks for any input.
  19. My girlfriend's (of 3 years) Dad owns a 2003 Grand Turismo and I've been in it a boat load of times. Red book values it at around... $115,000k still. Looks okay, sounds awesome, has some serious grunt under the bonnet, but it's still not worth it. Having sat inside it... it's still just another car. In fact, it's worse in many ways. An example; it's a two door, the front seats cannot be manually moved, they have to be electronically moved forward and back to let people into the back seat. This movement literally takes over a minute to go each way. You have to stand there for like 90 seconds each time you want to get into the back. Furthermore, for some bizarre reason they break down all the time, and you CAN'T move it manually. Hell, just changing the tyres costs as much as a decent Nissan. Honestly, I got more looks in my R33 non turbo than he does in his Maserati. People don't recognize it. I don't really know what I'm getting at anymore, but all I know is a $100,000 R34 GTR with the works under the hood would be a lot more fun, draw a lot more attention (and respect) and would still be cheaper to maintain even though it's pushing 500kwatw.
  20. Matte black. It'll look like a fricken stealth bomber. Get some black powder coated rims too, even small ones so it looks like you've got nice big slicks. The all black looks will hide it well and that car will just look mean.
  21. I've always had a special place inside me for the R32, but have never bought one because I was afraid of their age. I'm no mechanic, in fact, I'm probably the least mechanical driver to ever own a Skyline. My question is, are R32's (GTSTs and GTS4s) tough little tackers worth the gamble, or are they so old now that you're far more likely to find a lemon with the clock wound back (several times) and a piston ready to blow. Thanks.
  22. I wouldn't pay the initial $495 for those.
  23. Wait a minute...
  24. Sorry to be asking this again, but I can't find anything on google, and can't be Fed signing up to a Silvia forum. Anyone know if the SR20DET 180SX is P plate legal? It's right on 125kw per ton. Which I assume means it's really up to the cops if they want to do me on it or not. I've always loved the car, but thought due to it's lighter weight it'd be way over the legal limit. So, anyone ever had owned a 180SX on their P's, or know anyone who has? For reference, I'd probably be getting a 96-97 type X. Thanks.
