I was driving on the Nepean highway to work this morning, about 3am (I work in a Bakery - I don't recommend it) in my P plated R33 when about 6 or 7 other P platers came flying up from no where (Skyline tail lights are a hoon magnet) and started harassing me. They each took it in turns to come up beside me, rev there car a bit then floored it and slowly pulled away. There were two Preludes, a Commodore and bunch of Lancers, all riced to the max. Why an NA Lancer requires a monster tacho is beyond me, and the way they red lined their little engines only to gradually pull away from me at 80kmph was embarrassing.

Thanks for the response. I was referring to used cars by the way, trying to keep it realistic and within people's budgets. See it was my understanding that from about 30K to 50K Supra's would dominate, simply because of the strength of the engine. It really all came down to how much you wanted to spend on the turbo upgrade. Am I wrong in assuming that you can get up to 400-450rwkw from stock internals on a 2jz... TT Supra engine (I don't remember the exact name). I mean, at 50K an R34 GTR would be a damn nice car, but a Supra with a T88 all the upgrades to go along with it (injectors, ECU, etc) and any excess spent on suspension and brakes would straight up flatten the GTR. I thought 100-250K would be done up GTRs, with maybe an R32 at 100K and a R34 at 250K, with 2.8 litre engine, strengthened internals, bigger turbos, everything, or just an R35. Like I said, I was curious. Most of what I learn I get from browsing these forums and magazines (I catch the train a lot and have a bad habit for picking them up). I was wondering what sort of builds people would recommend, whether turbo charged Honda's would turn up (NSX, S2000), RX-7's, old RX's with 20B's in them, 26/30RBs, maybe even monster V8's.

Alright, this probably could've gone on the non-Skyline vehicle forum, but I figure some of the answers will be Skylines, and this forum gets more views anyway. More a curiosity than else, although I do plan on buying a nice turbo charged car a few years down the track, but I'm wondering what are the best value cars in terms of bang for your buck. Lets say you have $20,000 to buy the car, and spend on modifications (ignore insurance, rego, certificates and such), what's the highest kilowatts you could get ATW? An example of an answer might be (this is my guess anyway); R33 GTS-T, with turbo set up equalling about 250-260rwkw. Others might say 300zx, or a SR20DET, I dunno. Anyway, on to the questions; $10,000 - What's quick, cheap and fun. $20,000 - $30,000 - $40,000 - $50,000 - $75,000 - $100,000 - $250,000 - No need to answer all of them obviously, I did throw out a lot of values. Oh, one more question. For lets say... $25,000 (a realistic number for me) what car would accelerate from say 20kmph to 60kmph in the shortest time? I ask this because unless I goto the track or break the law, that's about the most fun I can have in my car. Thanks for any input.

Call the police again, maybe they took down details of who the troublemakers were. Then lie and say you went out to check your car (as you were rightfully concerned after all the noise) a few min after the cops nicked off and found the damage.

Beyond bars, clubs and restaurants, what's something different or interesting to do on a Saturday night? My girlfriend and I have bummed around the house all day and have finally found a bit of energy, don't feel like doing the same thing again all night. Thanks.

Thanks for all the help guys, really appreciate it.

I never sold a car privately before and was wondering if anyone has any general advice on what and what not to do. Just little tips you know, like who let test drive the car or mistakes people have made in the past. Thanks.

What You Hate About Your Skyline Thread
KezR33 replied to jakez88's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
R33 Series 1 GTS 1. No cup holders, I'm sick of spilling shit. 2. Heater takes too long to warm up (okay, girlfriend's complaint more than mine, but I have to listen to her complaints!). 3. Wish I had 3 seats in the back. I'll sometimes jam 3 in the back, but I never feel comfortable about it. -
Nice post. I recently did something really, really stupid. Something I would not normally do, but was peer pressured into, and consequently got busted for. I'm due to appear in court in a months time or so, been dreading it ever since the event. This post reassures me though, despite everything, even if worst comes to worst (and my case is not where near as bad as the one you described) things will end up okay, and that I don't have to give up my passion for imports just because of one lapse in judgement.

So if you had an unlimited budget, and were set about building a dream car what would it be? Don't just say R35, or Ferrari x etc , I want to know builds that you've always wanted to see but never had the funds to do yourself. Excuse my ignorance when it comes to cars (I am learning, I promise!), but I would personally love to see a; S13 body with a S15 front (the front being for looks more than anything, I don't know if it makes the car any lighter). RB26DETT head with a RB30DE bottom, bored out, ported (does ported = bored?) and polished, fully rebuilt with all the works. A hefty turbo upgrade suitable for the RB30, maybe the T88, or a nice Garrett. I dunno, I drive an N/A so I haven't looked into turbos too much yet. Add all the bells and whistles to make such a build work. Basically, it'd be a light weight car with a monster engine. I don't know if a build like this could work, or whether its been done before (if it has, please post a link), but I figure if the engine fits it could be a pretty realistic build with some very nice results.

If it's in mint condition, I'd probably pay... $7000-8000. The auto really brings the value down. Then again, you've just gotta find the right buyer. I'm sure there are people out there who'd want a non-turb auto for just cruising around, but finding them is the hard part.

Definitely. I'm not trying hang on your car mate, but I seriously doubt it's only done 36,000km. If you haven't taken it in for a major service I'd do that now. My mechanic even said to me that a lot of older Skylines have been wound back at one point or another and the best you can do is give it a good check over, service and start logging its history from there.

From a dealer, its fair enough I guess. Privately that car would prob go for 9-10k. Which would put it in your "dodgy" category, which is why I was getting confused.
-
That's fairly high. My car is in pretty nice condition, slight wear and tear on the interior, but drives perfectly. 115,000k, factory sun roof, alarm, rims, new sound system and varex exhaust. I'd be surprised if I could get $10k for it. I won't sell it for 8 or 9 or even 10 thousand simply because I know that the mechanical condition of the car is top notch, and is probably worth more than that. How you prove this to a buyer though I don't know.

Just curious, but what kW was he putting out?

I think I'm in love.

Man, this would be worth investing in if you can think of some clever plates. SKYLINE FERRARI PORSCHE MASRATI DRIFTER SPEEDER FORDFPV HOLDENS SLEEPER (Kind of contradictive really) FASTCAR RACECAR I literally thought those up in... 2 min, so excuse the lack of cleverness. If you had the money to invest in some of high badge name ones, like Ferrari or Porsche and the patience to wait for a buyer I bet you could sell them for $10-15k. Probably more considering how much they're willing to spend on the car itself.

My Short Story And Photos Of My New Girl Friend
KezR33 replied to adelaidebloke's topic in South Australia
Damn, I'm waiting on a court summons which I was supposed to get about 2-3 months ago. I was hoping they'd forgotten/let me off. Guess I'll have to live in fear for another 8 months at least. -
Get an Alpine Type-R sub and Alpine MRP-M500 Amp. Cost you around... $500 all up and comes in a nice ported box. I bought one recently and it's nuts. Really good sound quality, and can rattle the cars sitting at the lights around you, if that's your thing. Tough as too. I'd rather invest more in the sub and amp that will last and just get decent splits and head unit. Simply because you can drag a good sub around with you from car to car. Speakers just get annoying. Another option is to buy the second hand Type-X sub and amp from the guy selling them in the private parts forum. If I hadn't already bought mine I'd snap them up, they're near unbreakable, so you don't have to worry about them not being new. I'd love to hear a pair of those puppies at full tilt, each being 1000RMS. http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=O-SmGzbQof0 Check that out for a sub.

So does no one have an average cost of preparing and painting, and fitting? I'm really considering getting one, but don't want to find out a few hundred down the track that paint and installation cost a lot more than expected.
-
What? I can buy an R34 manual coupe from a dealer with less than 90,000k for under $21,000. Why would anyone pay $26,000 for a WHITE - AUTO - SEDAN?
-
Thanks for the info guys. I had another question, approximately how much does it cost to paint a front bar (or skirts, and rear for that matter)? I'm pretty sure I could fit it myself, or at least with the help of a couple of mates, but I tried searching and couldn't get a price on exactly how much preparing plus painting costs. Thanks again.

I got mugged outside Frankston train station once. It was plainly obvious what was happening, and no one helped. The two guys took my iPod, so I still had my phone to call the Police. They rocked up probably 10min later, one guy in a cop car. I jumped in, we drove around the corner and spotted the guys who mugged me. He made a call on the radio I swear within 2 minutes there were 20 other officers there (the police station is pretty close to the train station). The cops were pretty good about it from then onwards, but I was a little shocked at the difference in time it took to help a citizen vs. another copper. I understand they want to protect there own, but I was two blocks away and it took them 10min to reach me. I guess they assumed by the time they arrived the muggers would be long gone, not around the corner sitting on the curb.

Considering getting a front bar on my series 1 R33, but I'm wondering if its really worth it. Possible problems I could foresee; 1. Forgetting its there and smashing it on something when parking. 2. Grinding it on various drive ways, etc. 3. Added harassment from cops, and hoons. Mainly I'm concerned I'll damage it. Has anyone had any experience with this? Also, how does a front bar look on a stock R33? Does it look silly without skirts and a rear bar? Thanks.
