That is an awesome looking job. Nice work. Where'd you get it done? I can't beleive they also did the 'inside' of the rim too. How'd the hang the rim when they sprayed the powder?

Better to get it off your chest than keep it in! Sorry to hear the tales of woe. GTR ownership is just another disappointment waiting to happen with people who take your good money for an average to poor job. You slowly but poorly learn.....I'm going down the Pc route so I'll post when they're done but that'll be a couple of weeks.

Perfect. Thanks for that. I've PM'ed Markk and hopefully it's still open. Incidentally this is the same guy / product selling on eBay. Always check SAU first..... -

It's the hours of fun I'm worried about! I actually thought about it on the way home tonight. Have to get some photos of the bits and pieces under there and have a think about it..... -
R32 Gtr Brake Upgrade Advice

OK. I've got a plan. I've bought std size slotted RDA rotors. I've got heaps of pad left on the DS2500s and some great R specs on the 16" rims so why 'go big' and make these valuable items redundant. I've ordered a Cusco booster brace (mixed feedback, but life is an experiement). Thoughts on the following link ot Ebay for braided lines? They've gone up $20 in a week......They are ADR compliant though. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...mMakeTrack=true I'm still trying to source the control arm air deflectors (I've asked Nengun to have a look for me) as my mechanic said this alone would be a huge improvement in cooling (he also said DO NOT cut off the dust shields as they CONTROL air flow around the rotor - perhaps controversial considering the advice in this forum). I guess I'll get some recommended brake fluid (thank you forum) and set it all up. I might see if I can then borrow some Endless CCX pads if the DSs are no good, and if they work out then invest in a set for myself. Once I've worn everything out, and if my improvements are not enough, I'll invest further in larger rotors / dog bones / new calipers etc by which time I'll be too old for this and sell my GTR for half of what I spent on it..... I'll see how these Dunlop 245/40s look on the 17 and possibly get them too. They are selling them as just about as good as a road tyre in terms of 'comfort' with R Spec performance. I've bought once from Stuckey with great results so here's hoping they're right second time around. p.s. is anyone still interested in this sh*t? -

That's suprising, as I've got the Dunlop D01J 225/55/16 and yes they're more noisy by a bit but I've not expienced any of the really negative stuff you've mentioned. They're a really pleasure to drive on and are AMAZINGLY grippy in all conditions. Normal road tyres are a danger after coming off these things......Perhaps the Dunlops are not quite as aggresive as the RE55s and suit the road better. I've had Dunlop Supersport Race recommended from Stuckey as being as quiet as a road tyre, better than any R sepc in the wet and a poofteenth off the best in the dry. Only come in 245/40 though.... I'll mull it all over..... p.s. fast Sunday's are up before dawn and into the hills before the lemmings and the law get up -

Protek in Oakleigh reckon they can do RE55 SR 235/45/17 for $365 a corner which is versus $495 I've been quoted elsewhere.....They can get them too. Is the SR the way to go for conbined occasional sprint and fast Sunday driving? Thoughts on tramlining versus the 245? Will the thinner tyre imprive this? -
75, did you get your rims back. How they come up?

I've just called unique and they're not abailable for GTRs yet. Only RWD cars. Said it'd be 'around a couple of months'. Surely this item is made somewhere else by someone? Not too much in them and if they work seems to be an easy win for little outlay. -

Chairman, I've got mates who buy stuff from the States for their Mustangs and they say the FTA means no duty, or is that under a certain value? Thanks for the tip. I'll check it out. -

Thanks Phunky. What are these called? Where'dya get em from? Look simple and possibly effective. Does anyone know if cutting off (they don't unbolt?) the dust shields / guards will give any dramas re roadworthiness? I'm too old for dramas with the cops and re-instating things that got 'cut off' when it comes to selling it on (in the distant future I hope) Also, I guess Nissan put them there for a reason, so what are the downsides of cutting them off? Thanks everyone. -

Angus, what type of GTR? R33? -
R32 Gtr Brake Upgrade Advice
LotusGTR replied to LotusGTR's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Agreed, but you then have an extra 12mm between the guard and the top of the tyre which will potentially look, erm, gay. So you have to lower the car 12mm, thus 24/5mm overall and the whole lowering the suspension issue..... I've found some RE55s in 235/45 which give a 9mm diameter difference which should be OK but they don't come in until August (they reckon). Anyone recommend where to buy these units most cost effectively in Melbourne or there abouts? Still unsure of which way to go brake wise. I'll give you a call in the next couple of days........ -

Just got up at 4 and did a dawn raid on Authur's Seat and the surrounding hills. Great fun. 17" were fine, though they definitely tramline more than the 16 x 8s....but I reckon they look super cool so I'll have to put up with that for now, plus bigger brake will fit. The Tyres I inherited were truely terrible, though I am comparing them to some R specs I was running on the 16s so perhaps an unfair comparison. I've contacted Stuckey and they're highly recommending Dunlop Supersport Race in 245/40 17. Apparently they're very quiet, very good in the wet and only slightly slower (half second) in the dry around a track, which I don't care about. They're also cheap (relatively.....) at $395. Problem is the aspect ration is 40 which means they will be about 25mm less in diameter which will mean the car will sit lower and the rim won't fill the guards at the top unless I lower it (which I'm not sure if I can do with the coilovers I inherited), but overall I'm dropping it 25mm if I can..... I've seen very small dimensional changes in rims and tyres make a big difference to a car's stance, so I'm a little worries about going down this road. Any thoughts? Are there better alternatives than the R Dunlops (Bridgestone?), perhaps with better sizes? -

Anyone know if dogbones are ADR compliant / legal / roadworthy? Also, the RDA rotors. There is a group buy on soon. Any thoughts on how there stack up against the Stoptech items. The RDAs are cheap. -
Thanks for that. The location of the firs extinguisher sounds good (in the footwell of the rear passenger, hard up on the bottom of the seat). I might be off the topic in this area, but any tips on how to install it? I guess you have to mechanically fix, and I'd be concerned about what I'm accidentally fixing into. Any advice? Thanks.

Hi, I'm interested to know what general requirements there are for paricipating in sprints. e.g. club memberships, fire extinguishers, secondary bonnet restraints, CAMS licences etc. I'm not into racing, just want to sprint for a bit of fun. I've been to Winton on a Friday and that was OK, but a looong way and a looong day. Seemed pretty lax in terms of requirements. Pretty much just needed the cash and a helmet. Advice on calendars for sprints and hill climbs would be good too. Thanks.

I need a set of these. I do use a rattle gun to swap rims so not sure if aluminium is the way to go. I'm interested in the length for this type of rim. Any help / hints gratefully received. Nick.

LotusGTR replied to LotusGTR's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Yeah, 245/45/17. I agree they look tall. I guess I could go a 40 series that is slightly narrower which would sort that out, but then they would look too small in the guards and then I gotta look at the suspension, which I kind of like for the driving I do, so am reluctant to mess with it. I think I'll investigate what road legal track rubber is available for these rims and take it from there. The profile of those tyres with the stiffer sidewalls always looks slightly different anyway. Anyhow, I've got to bottom the brake thing out now, which is where this all started. -

and here are the rims on the car. Test drive and full steering lock test complete. Nothing has fallen off and no bad noises. Tramlines a little cf the 16s. No dramas so far, which I think is what I should have expected. I think I'll drive with them for a while before committing to larger rotors and not being able to go back to the 16s. Make sure the car still handles well and the look of the rims settles well on me.
