Do Pineapples Affect Ride Height?
LotusGTR replied to R33GOD's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I've got no idea what pineapples look like or work, but when I switch out the fronts on my R32 GTR I get tramp. Love to get rid of this for some nice clean spinning. Please can i have Pineapple 101 from someone including pics? Thanks. -

R32 Gtr Brake Upgrade Advice
LotusGTR replied to LotusGTR's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Can anyone recommend a good brake shop to fit any gear I might buy? Someone with specific experience with GTRs. I work in Dandenong, so God knows there's got to be someone down that neck of the woods right? Any recommendations for the Dandy area? Also, I've got my new R33 rims lined up next to the 16s on my car and they're big looking. The 16s are 225/55/16 and the newies are 245/45/17 (that's the std tyre size right?) and they look like a very tight squeeze. I'm running some kind of coil overs and its a little low but not too much so. I'm wondering if it is too low......I'll try them tomorrow and see how I go, but if anyone has experience of putting R33 GTR rims on R32s I'd be grateful to hear from you. Cheers. -
Bute. Look forward to the pics. Once I know the rims fit the car (they look kinda big.....) I'll speak with the powdercoater and see what their 'metal stripper' recommends.

Hello Collective, I've got some R33 GTR rims I'm going to powedercoat to try and match the 'gun metal grey' of the std R32 GTR rim, as they're going on my R32 and I want to keep the 'stock' look as much as possible. Has anyone tried to do this match and if so what PC colour did you use and were you happy with the result? Also, I've had a chat with a few people about the prep. work needed before powdercoating and most seem to think that the current factory finish will need to be stripped first by doing one of the following: Sand blasting Burning it off Chemical dip All of these methods would potentially concern me in terms of how they might damage the rims.....Perhaps I'm being a bit consevative, but does anyone have a view on any of the above methods of stripping and whether any of them are definite no-no's? Any other top tips? The powdercoater I'm onto has been recommended by a guy who now works for me, who used to run the PC plant so without having used them myself, they're probably good. Thanks.

R32 Gtr Brake Upgrade Advice

Thank you thank you thank you. So, even the F50 caliper only offers a little over 8% more piston area than the std sumitomo? Does that translate to pad area? If so I guess the P part in your equation comes down in part to the rigidity of the caliper and how well the brake booster is matched to the cm2 of the pots? So the combination of larger swept area (say 10%) and greater rigidity (say 10% - an uneducated guess) gives an overall increase in F of 21%, which is not bad. Then if the greater force is applied further from the centre of the rotor, it multiplies again....Plus you have more mass to take the heat. I am on the right track? I guess ultimately the std caliper may not be strong enough for a large rotor due to the increased leverage. Based on this it would seem that the spaced sumitomo would do a pretty good job. I guess if I get bigger rotors and the calipers do not do the job, I can upgrade them later? If I'm 'spacing' sumotomo's then I guess I may as well find the largest rotor that'll fit in the rim right (343 or 355 - not likely)? Or do I / will I have to stop at 324? I've just thrown a tape over the rim where it bolts to the disk and the internal clearance seems to 390mm. So 324 would leave 66mm for caliper clearance and 343 47mm. Is this enough? Is this the limiting factor? So much to know.... -
R32 Gtr Brake Upgrade Advice
LotusGTR replied to LotusGTR's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Ronin, thank you. I was wondering what differences there were between R32 calipers and the Brembos and it sounds like not much. Given I've got 17s, I'm thinking of running 324 x 30 rotors (R33 GTR size) in favour of the 296 x 32 std R32 numbers. If I'm keeping my std calipers I presume they will run on this larger rotor but will need to be 'spaced out'. Is that what those brackets are for in the picture you posted from nismo.com.au and your reference to the caliper off set kit? I also presume the smaller thickness larger diameter rotor won't pose any problems for the std caliper. Nick. -
I'm struggling to get this software. Down loading it is taking forever. Any ideas or tips? I'm using broadband. Which sites are recommended to get the download? Thanks.

R32 Gtr Brake Upgrade Advice
LotusGTR replied to LotusGTR's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
No worries. OK. I've now got some R33 GTR 17 x 9's so can get some bigger rotors up front. Plan now is to get some R33 Brembo calipers for the front with some of those Stoptech slotted rotors from the mob in NSW. Does the collective wisdom think that they will balance well with std R32 rears? I think I can get a pair of front calipers in good nick for about $1,000. How's that sound? Lastly, would the calipers 'Roy' is selling (should he choose to separate) fit under the R33 rims (he mentions them not fitting his street set) and bolt straight onto my steed? -
R32 Gtr Brake Upgrade Advice
LotusGTR replied to LotusGTR's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Thanks Ronin and Roy (and everyone). It's amazing how far out your first best guess can be. Think I might take my time with this. I'll try new pads and see how I go from there. I have 2 sets of R32 GTR 16 x 8s, one set with track tyres and the other with road, both with a fair bit left. If a wheel upgrade is required (which I thought it would be) for the Brembos and the larger rotors I think I might sit tight with the current set up until the tyres run out of life. Q - with 17 x 9 R33 GTR rims or 17 x 9 V Spec R32 BBSs, what size rotor would be the max the rims and calipers could take. Any advice on where to buy rotors? OEM Nissan from RHD Japan? DBA? That being the case, my next question is how much do rotors make a difference to overall brake performance? I'm runing some unknown replacement disc for the original cross drilled numbers. Will investing in DBA 4000 / 5000 slotted rotors make a noticeable difference to pedal, bite, feel, heat disipation etc etc. Or is that potentially an expensive wast of time? Nick. -
R32 Gtr Brake Upgrade Advice
LotusGTR replied to LotusGTR's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
OK. Thank you all for your further advice. Having shopped this around a little I think given the likely usage a 'big' brake upgrade will not be what I'm after. I think I'll do some braided lines, sort the squeal out from the DS2500 pads I've got (if I can). Phase II could be Brembos from and R33 V spec. My thinking is that they should not represent a massive departure from std R32 and should therefore be relatively straightforward to retro fit, though I've read bolt pitch is 1.5, not 1.25.....I wonder what other hidden snags there may be..... Can anyone adivse on the R33 Brembo logic. If it is the (a) right way to go, what size rotor would be required and can they be squeezed under stock R32 rims (I doubt it). I'd hope they are streetable. Further thoughts and comments? Thanks again. -
Replacement Box For Gtr With Engine Mod
LotusGTR replied to Dohmar's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Re the new Jap gearboxes. Shouldn't we be suspicious that these boxes are still around 'new'? They're 15-20 years old. Why / how can they be new? Could they be warranty returns or seconds? I'd like to be wrong about this, but..... Anyone have specific experience of going down this road? Cheers. -
R32 Gtr Brake Upgrade Advice
LotusGTR replied to LotusGTR's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Some other thoughts, any comments advice on the following would be appreciated: How brake upgrades integrate with the ABS system (does the 4wd system work off ABS too? Sensing wheels spin etc?) Cross drilled rotors. I hear a bit about them developing hairline cracks, but they look so cool + hi-end Euro sports cars generally have them so I guess they can be made to work? How do you establish if rotor / calipers fit certain rims? This forum? Brake bias issues. Any basic rules to observe to avoid errors Brake boosters and lines and the relationship they have with pedal feel Yours still in total ignorance...... -
R32 Gtr Brake Upgrade Advice
LotusGTR replied to LotusGTR's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Sorry if I'm not replying properly here, but thanks to all for your advice. Sounds like I might be best investigating some relatively low investmwent options on the current set up first. I guess brake lines and boosters etc can be carried over to new systems as and when required, so might be a good place to start. Then, caliper rebuilds / new rotors / pads etc needs to be balanced out against the cost of upgrading. You don't really want to spend twice. I guess this allows me not to make the outlay for the R33 GTR rims and tyres. I've got 2 sets of R32 with track tyres so might be best finishing them off before upgrading. I have a feeling that I'll always be hankering after 'big' brake set up just because 'you can' and it's kinda cool. I guess I'll check out the $$$$ factor for what you get in terms of perofmance and the 'cool' factor. Thanks again to all. Nick. -
I've got an R32 gtr running about 300RWKW and currently have a standard brake set up which is not really up to the job. I've got R33 GTR rims to go on the car (forged, light, sort of original, look good, as big as you want to go to preserve the original style of the car - sorry I'm old). The car is predominantly used on the street, but for Sunday blasts or a quick drive to work when I'm in the mood. Track work will be minimal. Ultimate stopping performance is obviously important, but peddle feel and streetability are important too. I don't want to be able to tear the skin off my face pulling up at the expense of a good feel. I want to avoid squealing brakes too. I know this comes down to pad choice but thought I'd throw that in. Where to from here? What does the collective wisdom suggest? Thanks, Nick.

People, can anyone tell me what I need to know about buying wheel nuts for standard R32 GTR rims. KKKK has a set of BBS and I'm not sure what to look out for? Is this the right spot for this question? Thanks y'all.
-
Do you have pics? What wheel were they used on? Any thoughts on their suitability for an R32 GTR std rim? Thanks.
-
Thanks Adam and Trust33. They come off an 8" R32 GTR rims and the 205s are too narrow for this rim. I've seen 6.5" GTST rims that were fitted with 225/60, and the tyres looked oversized to me. If GTST rims are 6.5" I reckon 205s are OK, but not sure about the profile.

I nearly got offended!! Thanks dude.

Anyone heard of a synchro that is too close to a gear / sticky, that means whilst idling in neutral the car has a asmall amount of gearbox engagement and wants to move forward ever so slightly?

What wheels are you looking for? Got pics of the BBSs? Do they come with tyres? -
Guys, any Vic people out there with a good set. Little or no gutter rash required. Needs tyres that are not necessarily great tyres, but need to be servicable, in reasonable condition and no less than 50%. Anyone relate to this specific request?
